Posts: 5 777Only thing I have found with gauges down there (mine are in the slot under the radio) is they are really not the easiest to see at a glance when driving. May not be an issue to you, but just thought i would mention it.

Posts: 5 777I actually bought a stato centre console a while back. Had plans of trying to graft it into a stock dash.

Posts: 5 777Ha, finally I can offer some advice!! In my experience as a mature age apprentice mechanic, I have actually fixed a number of seat belt issues. You need to access the retractor reel, give it a thorough vacuum out around the whole area as it will probably have 20 + years of crud in there. Then get yourself some white spirits, wet a cloth with it and run it up and down the length of the belt until its clean. Then get some silicone spray, and pull the belt out the full length, then lube all the reel mechanism with the spray. Keep doing this while you then let the belt retract, then pull the belt out again etc etc until it frees up. Should be good to go
Cheers mate, exactly the info I needed. I can imaging when the car was going through the respray there was dust going everywhere. I had a look on eBay and they are not cheap to just replace!
Or… Just pull the seat belt out, grab a can of tyre shine and give it a spray. I was skeptical at first but tried it on my front belts and it worked very well!
Sounds like a combination of the above is the go.
Thanks guys, really appreciate the advice, will have a go on the week end and post up how I go

Posts: 5 777Maybe your right, I keep dreaming up new things to do to it, but really I want to just drive it like it is for a while. Rip some skids, cuts some laps and run a qtr. once I have bored of it as it is maybe I play with it.

Posts: 5 777Got all enthused and spent the night out in the shed. Got the exhaust sorted, hopefully it brings it down to the 90dB. Also played around with the braided power steering and engine cooler lines and got them routed a bit nicer. So really need to contact the engineer tomorrow and see where he is at with the engineering report. Then not far off first crack at getting this legal. Fingers crossed.

Posts: 5 777Good question, we wanted to try and keep the number of categories down, but is it relatively easy to start a new one. Should be able to do it tomorrow.

Posts: 5 777Be better if you had an electric pump without the pulley. That way you’d have only the balancer and alternator. The alternator would have an adjustable bracket for belt tension.
Only problem with that is it cant happen with an LS into VR/S conversion. the alternator is only 10mm away from the chassis rail as it hard up against the block.
I do like the idea of trying to remove the top mount tensioner though. On my car I have a Mezziere electric water pump, but the pump shroud is designed to run on the belt so it turns I think to help cool the electric motor. Might be possible to come up with an alternative tensioner though.
