Posts: 5 777Nah wont be called a Monaro, he said that “While a V8-powered two-door coupe follows the formula set by the iconic Monaro, Jacoby ruled out reviving the nameplate.” but here’s hoping its V8 rwd…

Posts: 5 777Agreed, torque pulls you out of the hole, HP gives you mph. Power curve for a streeter vs strip totally different. Low down grunt is so much fun (and useable) on the street.

Posts: 5 777No doubt in my mind that there are very very fast top end engines of many varieties, but I reckon for the average home builder, bang for your buck has to be the LS platform. It really is a matter of deciding how far you want to go and then doing it. My engine straight out of the box for $12k ($20 I guess if you add the induction, and ancillaries) is making 650Hp and bucket loads of torque. I am a cam and head work away from maybe 750HP. Pretty hard to do that with a Holden V8, especially if you want it to idle, and be tame as to drive and reliable.

Posts: 5 777Shoe polish is a cheap fix. Hands might get a little dirty tho
I think that’s how CPC on the old forum did his, although his was in reasonable shape. Mine was too far gone for that.

Posts: 5 777^ What bloody awesome photos right there!! Nice to read a balanced and thought out reply too Pete. I agree I am not knocking the Holden V8, certainly owned my fair share over the years, and of course the can go, the couple you have mentioned, plus a certain blue Manta prove that point. But Yea my point is bang for buck, LS is a pretty sweet platform. To me they are modern day SBC. Can’t get over the pic of that VH, what an animal.
Sorry for the thread hijack btw Wombles!!

Posts: 5 777From memory I think I bought mine direct but through the Internet. I reckon it was around $70 or so. Really did work mate, you take it back and it looks worse if that makes sense, but then it ends up mint.

Posts: 5 777Hey mate, I did mine, came up absolutely spot on, in fact I wanted to leave some wear and tear marks, but if you wanted it could be factory new. This is how I did mine off my build.
Well fitted the finished wheel today, extremely happy with the results. Thought I may as well post some pics, I followed the process CPC posted earlier with the guy on the Brock forum so won’t go into too much detail. Only thing is I didn’t spray at all I used cloths. Personaly I didn’t want it dead smooth, I wanted to keep some of the battle scars but freshen it up. It would be really easy to make it almost like plastic smooth is ya wanted. Some photos
This is the stuff

Posts: 5 777For sure, agree with keeping going. I wonder what the history of it is, I wouldn’t have thought there would be that much rust. Whats the saying “when you are going through hell, just keep going”

Posts: 5 777If you spend a little more, you get the one that will print in ABS, that way you can actually use the parts as is. Be nice for example to model up in 3D a new dash surround with the holes etc for the gauges, then print it out. Bit of light sanding, paint it up and away you go. The big advantage is once you have perfected one, you can just print off an many as you need. Awesome technology
