Still have power steering, actually planning on changing to an electric Astra power steering pump one day so I can get that out of the bay. Still have the heater, at this stage haven’t bothered with air con compressor, although may, particularly if I decide to drive it over for the nats etc, think that straight forward, cruise didn’t bother, not sure I could tbh with my ITb set up, but if it was a regular single throttle body intake should be simple enough I think. Mine sort of took a left turn with the 454, when I strated with the LS3 I was going to have all that :)

I take you have read this? I wrote it up a while back, its a good start http://www.commodoresplus.com.au/forums/topic/vrvs-ls-engine-conversion-general-information/

For me, it was moving to a platform that had a lot of potential to go mental down the track. My dream was (still is) to have a genuine 1,000hp (flywheel) street registered legal car. I just couldn’t see that happening with an old technology block like a 308 without it being cranky and temperamental as hell. I admit back then I didn’t know about the Little paw blocks mentioned above. Although I will say if your going to drop big $$ on one of those, you may as well buy an RHS LS style block… I will also say at the risk of being accused of being a hair dresser, I also wanted the wow factor. If you are making 7/800HP you are going to be spending 20 grand plus or minus whatever you do. So for that sort of money I wanted something that when you lifted the bonnet it had some wank factor. Then also I am a huge fan of NA. Its a personal thing, but to me there is a purity about making big numbers NA. No 355 NA will go even close to a LSx454 NA, so put all that together that’s why I went the way I did. Lots of ways to skin a cat though….Thats only my personal opinion.

Well finally i have something small to post. Just got off the phone to the engineer, he is finishing the report over Easter, so all things being equal should have it in my hot little hands next week. Not sure whats involved re getting into Regency, if I have to book or not. Creeping every closer to having that all important crack. Should start a sweep on how many times it needs to go back before I am through. My heart wants first time, but my head says I will come away with a list of things to fix, then hopefully through second go…

Wow, how the hell did I miss this thread. Awesome work mate, going to be killa.

Re the pacemakers, they are “only” 1 3/4″ primaries, which if chasing big HP are a little too small. Yes they are tri Y’s also, although actually i haven’t found that an issue for power or how they sound, I made 500 rwhp with them, but it did start to nose over a little early which I think is the small primaries, still pulls 7k though.

The early CRS conversion headers people had huge problems, but recently they have brought out a set of 1 7/8″ 4 into 1’s that supposedly have corrected the earlier faults. Actually I am very tempted to buy a set and give them a go, so far i haven’t managed to find anyone who has used them to see how they work/fit.

The Viper is mental, on my way to work i pass a crowd that brings in Camaro’s, they often have a couple sitting out the front, the look pretty tuff, have often thought about stopping and taking one for a test drive.

LS swap is certainly way easier now a few of us have done it, there are pretty much no unknowns now. But its not cheap and its not for the faint hearted. The big issue is if its a straight LS1 swap its reasonably easy and simple, BUT if you then chase some more HP (lets face it who doesn’t) the supporting mods start to add up :)

Well looking like we need to add a CommodoresPlus test and tune drag day to the cruise idea. Be very cool to get a group of us together and do some grudge runs :)

Love to have a crack at Pete and his Manta once I get mine sorted and the heads/cam done. LSx454 NA auto vs Pro charged Holden stroker manual in essentially the same body would be a very very cool contest :)

Thanks HSV865. I’m a bit hesitant about banging on about it on forums, people are probably sick of hearing about the car.

No way mate, this is exactly the thing this forums for. I for one and I am sure many others would love to know more details. Would love you to start a build thread maybe in the members/race section. Great work (and car) :)

sorry mate maybe I have miss read your post? I have braided lines to replace the rubber lines to the calipers, they were made up custom for me by PBR here in Adelaide. All the other lines are the ones I meant, they are all hard lines. Some people have had hard lines made when they move the ABS etc, they are the ones that can be very expensive.

edited because of dumb ass iPad auto correct!!

Anyone who says an LS will never sound as good as an Aussie V8 hasn’t listened to an LSx454 with ITB and twin 3″ system :)

Braided brake lines are readily available, but aren’t cheap. If you even half handy with tools, making up new steel hard lines is easy as and cheap. Actually a nice relaxing job.

And the same physical size block will go from 330 to 454 cubes. Once you have an LS in the bay it opens up a world of options.
