Posts: 5 777I can’t remember who on SC suggested the doubler plates on the trailing arm bolts, I wasn’t going to do it, but apparently they flog out. I probably went a little overboard (surprise surprise) but at least its done. What sort of power are you putting through yours?

Posts: 5 777Not that it matters as I will pull the heads when I do it anyway, but i think i remember reading with the LSx block you dont have to remove the heads to do the lifters, or am I dreaming?

Posts: 5 777We need some IT guru type of dude to write some sort of translation app. Its easy enough to export SC threads into pdf, surely there is a way to take that pdf and stick it back into here? Otherwise its cut and pastes, but you can only do that with your own posts so you lose all the banter in between.

Posts: 5 777All my gear is Makita, always has been, the good stuff though, not the average range. Never had an issue with any of it. Bought a set the other day after my break in, got a deal on the cordless grinder/circular saw/drill/impact driver for a similar price to replacing the impact driver and drill they stole separately. Have to say pretty impressed with the angle grinder and circular saw, very grunty.

Posts: 5 777^ just add a couple of Varex mufflers, link the open/close of them to the button, not only do you have a tame safe tune with revised shift points in the auto but its also in nice quiet stealth mode

Posts: 5 777Thats exactly why I think it’s a resonance thing, it’s how the whole assembly acts as a whole. I actually worked for 5 years worked for a company called Resonance Technology, I am not saying I am an expert, but I do understand how it works. Look at the Tacoma bridge, or pushing your kid on a swing, small inputs make a big difference.

Posts: 5 777When’s the roadworthy booked Gary?
Sorry mate, missed that one, just actually got off the phone to Doug, hate to say it but he didn’t get the report finished over the break, he is aiming too this week end. Cant do much about it really, have to say I am as frustrated as hell, not with him at all, its the nature of the game, just at the delay in general. Nothing I can do about it except wait really. This delay is killing me :(

Posts: 5 777^ 100% agree with that. In fact I would have thought making a drop in replacement suspension as a sub frame picking up on the original sub frame mounting points should have been half possible. But I think back in the day of ours just making 185kW was a big deal
If I did mine all over again from a bare body, truthfully I think I would have looked around for a live rear, so much easier to get to work.

Posts: 5 777I think we are talking more about controlling line pressures, shift delays etc, not the fully auto shift.

Posts: 5 777Agreed and lets face it the geometry of a commie IRS set up is so poor, we are talking about how well you can polish a turd. Some things though (with me anyway) I think coz of my mech eng back ground are more about principal than actual absolute truth. But that’s the good thing about car building, we get to express ourselves in how we approach things, bloody boring if we all did the same stuff all the time.

Posts: 5 777Almost bought an Adayer Sportif before I got the Tonner..
Thats the 2 door Opel yea? Seriously if i didn’t have the Kombi lined up I think i would do the VR Monaro. Buy another shell & body kit, do it, then swap my running gear over, and turn my Senator back to original 5L. Bloody cars, its a disease…

Posts: 5 777Thanks guys, just ordered the kit, for my application they recommended an ARP stud kit instead of the bolts too, so though I might as well do the lot. Will take a heap of pics and post up on my build thread when I do it, cheers

Posts: 5 777My cars sort of going to be like painting the Sydney harbor bridge, once you finish you go back and start over…
Seriously, I have tried to build the basics of a real life all rounder. I want to mainly just street drive it, also be able to do a club day or whatever at Mallala, maybe hill climb it, and do some street drags. Ideally a manual will end up in it, but my almost life goal car wise has been to run a 10.XX in a car I built myself. Given its auto currently, building a tough glide suits the drag and street requirements. If I were to change to manual not its not just the box, its the clutch, the pedals bla bla. But when I get bored with the auto, and most likely once the Kombi is done, I will fit some sort of sequential manual, and then do more circuit type stuff, really its going to need a cage then anyway. My thought process was there will always be a market for a quality 1500HP glide, so when it comes time to go manual I should be able to move it on. Sorry i don’t ever tend to give short answers
