Posts: 5 777Insanely hot over here, so up at 7 to get an early start, too hot by 1pm. Think I have sorted the side runner end detail, folded and welded it, have left the front end a little long but can trim that back. Practiced a lot of plug welds and got the welding settings good I think. Then went to the bus and very happy with how they all turned outs so the top hat section behind the drivers compartments is now fully welded. Certainly gaining in confidence with my welds. 43 again tomorrow, so will do a morning again, but having fun.
Few pics

Posts: 5 777Hot again today, but sometimes you have days where you end up with a lot to show for your work like yesterday, then days like today which are a fiddle. But got the welder out, the I Beams are tacked up in place. Also started working on the B pillar, turns out I thought I had bought the assembled lower section of the whole pillar but I only got the “outer” whereas I also need the funky shaped inner as well. Its a bit difficult when I have never done one before and a lot of it has rusted away. But allowed me to dummy fit the cargo doors, so bit more progress and fun.

Posts: 5 777That’s it for today, just too hot out there!! Got the old I beams off, lots of back and forth to hardware store to get set back up again, but really enjoying it. Took some helpful advice from someone on the Kombi forum and concentrated on using the new shift tube as the datum. Just took my time. Nothing is welded up yet, just clamped or temp screwed in place. Great to be back putting new sound metal back into it.. Happy days!!</span></span><span data-offset-key=”6b959-0-0″> </span><span data-offset-key=”69fkv-0-0″><span data-text=”true”></span></span><span data-offset-key=”44ri9-0-0″><span data-text=”true”></span></span><span data-offset-key=”3s21e-0-0″><span data-text=”true”></span></span><span data-offset-key=”ch7kq-0-0″><span data-text=”true”></span></span>- This reply was modified 4 years, 11 months ago by VRSenator065.

I must admit that’s something I haven’t been accused of. Mind you once or twice maybe have been accused of going a bit over the top

Posts: 5 777BIG day today, Today is BIG!! All the panels from Germany are due to be delivered, woo hoo!! So have moved the MG across to my other shed and cleared out the Senator. And got it up on the lift and gave it a good blow down and inspection. Looks sweet as.
One thing Dad taught me was the importance of a jig in a job like this. In my case I took a lot of time to make the frame I made to move it around dead square and level. It also picks up on the suspension points making sure they are dead plumb. Whilst waiting for the panels that are coming today I thought I would check it since I haven’t touched it in a couple of years. Its absolutely spot on, dead true and level. Happy days

Posts: 5 777One day def on my list is actually “building” a car. Just not a Cobra kind of guy, either a hot rod built on a space frame chassis or something like this that can also be tracked a bit for some fun.

You need more google…. https://customimagecorvettes.com/product-category/replica-bodies/ http://www.kitcarlist.com/corvette-kits.html https://www.zip-corvette.com/63-67-c2/body-fiberglass.html
I have seen them, but to my knowledge they aren’t registerable in Oz (happy to be corrected though!!)

Posts: 5 777I looked a while back (quite seriously) and couldn’t find one. But if anyone has a link, love to see it. I mean given it was orginially a glass car, should be able to get the look pretty close. Just be a great car to build imo.
