Posts: 5 777Kind of feel like that scene in the Castle, where he says, “look Darl, Dale dug a hole!!” Seems an awful lot of effort just to create a door, but still. Not quite finished, still need to weld the top and score a new top hinge, but just about there..

Posts: 5 777That’s the issue with modern electronics. It’s only as good as the signals it’s receiving I guess.

Posts: 5 777Both really, I wanted to retain as much originality where practical, but yes you can get them. The door skin I got are $670 each, the new inner frame (the bit I have repaired) is almost $1,000 each, so by the time you root around and consumables you are looking at almost $2k a door. I figgered I may as well have a go at fixing it, worse case I would scrap them, but it’s turned out pretty well I think.
Did a bit last night, this side door hinges seemed a lot harder to separate so picked up some bright bar to make up a more substantial puller. Suesy was out last night so thought I might have a play. Well 3 hours later and no dinner I finally got one separated without breaking it. THIS DOOR WILL NOT BEAT ME!

Posts: 5 777Inner door done. What a lot of work. All rust cut out, donor pieces used to rebuild it. Have run out of sanding discs (and also energy tbh) so going to call it a day. Its all ready to have the skin fitted , then its do it all over again on the other door

Posts: 5 777Holy crap that was a long day. This door seems to be a never ending story, but progress is progress I guess. Made up a section where the lower hinge reinforcing box had rusted away, happy how it tuned out. Then spent a bit of time going over what I had done so far and wasn’t happy with the rest of the lower part of the frame so decided I may as well make up a new section since I have gone so far already. Then repaired the rusted out ends of the vertical struts using some donor parts off the old door I have. Its not finished but getting very close now. What an epic journey this bloody door has turned out to be!!

Posts: 5 777Pretty happy with that given I’m a rank amateur. Just using what I have, which is a stuffed passenger side door what I need part of for that door, so cutting and shutting to get this done. Put my shrinker to good use and made up the curved part from scratch. Now I have the old skin off, tomorrow I will be able to attach it with a dolly and hammer and smooth it out a little, but I am not after a show car so happy now tbh. Finished the day just doing a test fit of the new skin, fits perfectly, almost clips into place. Happy days.

Posts: 5 777Turns out a father of a guy we race know the guys who use to run Adelaide Carby Sales and Service but now works from his home. He will totally rebuild/refurbish mine for $330. Seems pretty good, I think I will start there, swapping a carby is a pretty quick and simple job.

Posts: 5 777I actually have this totally irrational hatred of Fords. I know they have made good cars, but growing up in Elizabeth when pretty much everyone’s Dad worked at Holden’s, you just become red. I will never own a Ford, as I say i know irrational, but…
