Posts: 189Any new parts for this?
Have been collecting a few new parts thanks to sands vs plus some other people
have purchased 3 new belt moulds and 2 new gutter moulds for when I eventually get around to respraying the car. If anyone has a new RH rear Calais belt mould I would be interested in purchasing. I would also be interested in another new LH front without a dent, but not urgent.Have also purchased another cam (crane 276).
Since I have a few oil leaks I have also decided to pull the motor out and fix those. While the motor is out I will be respraying the engine bay to tidy it up. I plan on relocating the battery to the boot and moving the abs to where the battery was. Not going to get too crazy hiding everything, just want a neater engine bay.
Just slowly plugging away at it with no real deadline in mind. Would love to have it back on the road by summer but just taking it as it comes

Posts: 189Had problems few problems with this not running properly, ended up being the intake manifold causing a vacuum leak, had that fixed by a local mechanic. Not even a month later it starts running crappy again and making a tak noise on low revs, have that diagnosed and fixed which was rockers were not adjusted correctly, also got told that I have a potentially stuffed lifter but they added some lifter additive and I was told to report back to see if the noise went away (it didnt). It got worse so I stopped driving the car and eventually decided to sort the lifters myself. Basically after I got the intake manifold off I found that the cam is now stuffed and I’m up for a new one. Having a bit of trouble deciding on what cam to choose but I’ve narrowed it down to either a crane 276 or a 284 (currently has a 268). Does anyone have any experience with either cams? Basically I just want a reasonably simple cam swap for a fairly standard engine.

Posts: 189Been a while since I updated this but not heaps has happened, have had the air con fixed again, new exhaust to replace the shit one I had on it originally which was hitting the body and generally poorly made (should have done my research on who to go to in the first place). I also had the roof lining re-trimmed and fitted some map lights while it was out. Also had to replace a water pump which started leaking about a week after I got the ute drive-able again. Have a full set of bushes for the rear end which hopefully ill get time to replace soon.

Posts: 189When I bought this car it had been keyed along both sides and had full intentions on respraying when I got it within 12 months.. well 18 months after buying it I finally got around to it. I’m a spray painter by trade and the boss was willing to let me use the workshop after hours and on weekends which was a massive help. At the same time I resprayed it I purchased new belt moulds, badges, headlights, taillights and a second hand tailgate in better condition. The whole thing was stripped down and took me about 2 and a half months from start to finish working mainly on weekends and during my lunch breaks.
Pulled apart ready to start repairs, sunroof also came out
Repairs done and ready for primer
Blocked ready for paint
Fresh paint
Out in the sun the next morning
Bumpers and a lot of little bits off the car, door handles, sail plane etc
FinishedCouple of interior shots after it had been detailed

Posts: 189Nothings changed but the SSV’s are back on again with new tyres and I took some fresh pictures. I am planning on getting the clutch changed after tax time and possibly a new exhaust as the current system has a hole in it..

Posts: 189Had to change the extractor gasket over the christmas new year period, had to be the drivers side which was lots of fun
I also bought new wheels for the ute but they ended up on this, they are staggered vf rapier replicas, the lh rear scrubs on the inside at the front slightly so will have to do something about that
will get a better pic when it actually has a full tank of fuel and sits decent

Posts: 189Havent really done much to this other then maintaining it lately which has been good, I changed the console lid to a Calais one which is surprisingly lighter then the original
I have put the stock wheels back on as the SSV’s needed tyres and I bought new wheels for the VS. I realised a queen sized bed does not fit in the back so had to borrow my parents trailer to get that up to my house. At the start of January I moved out of home and this car was useful and useless at the same time, good for taking big loads of stuff as long as it fitted under the hardlid…
and a pic from when I gave it a wash on valentines day

Posts: 189Had the aircon regassed again and its colder than its ever been I think, other then that its been reliable. Makes a weird clunking noise when turning right under acceleration which I need to look into. Went on cruise for charity so was cleaned up for that, took a pic before it rained. Saw my old Calais there as well and was good to see that still being looked after.

Have also had to replace the A/C compressor, Power steering return line and the water pump. Next big thing ill probably do is the clutch as I think thats on its way out..

The carbon I scraped all the old clear off with a razor blade, it came off really easy. I then lightly rubbed it with a grey scotch pad, prepsoled, used PPG plastic primer and then dusted a couple of coats of 2K clear with a final wet coat. I should have prepsoled it again as I got a bunch of wax holes in the clear but it is a whole lot better then it was before

Posts: 189Best picture I could get of my fans from the ute, December 05 SS manual. As you can see from the picture its leaking coolant from the pump, what are the best water pumps for these? Best to stick to genuine pumps or are the aftermarket ones alright?

Posts: 189just wondering if someone would happen to have a few photos of a VZ V8 thermo fan, tried googling it but getting mix results, just trying to check the diffrences between VZ V6 and V8, as the fans as very similar, they have the same shrouds, just different size motors can be off a sedan, wagon or ute excluding Crewman, 1tonner or Adventra, as they run larger fans again
I can grab some photos of mine tomorrow. If you want you could come look at the differences yourself? Have both VZ V6 and V8 here..

Posts: 189Finally got myself a HSV console after searching for a while. I also got a set of woodgrain pieces from a series 2 Calais and wrapped them with a carbon fibre wrap, didnt come out too bad for my first time but will redo a couple of pieces when I get time. The shifter surround was peeling when I got it so I scraped the old clear off and re-cleared it. Also bought a new handbrake boot off ebay which doesnt fit too badly, it goes really tight when the handbrake is pulled all the way up (I should get around to adjusting that).
Console pieces when I got them
Reclearing, I broke the ashtray lid but just reglued the broken bits. Doesnt get used anyway.
All in and finished
