If it’s any help with your cam choice mate I’ve just gone from a 268 to a 276 and it’s much much nicer. You get a little lope but it’s still very streetable on stock compression.

I wouldn’t go any higher than a 276 on stock comp.

I feel for you, I’ve munched a cam lobe before and it’s a shit feeling, but you’ll love the 276.

Love it mate, love the cowl + colour.

Can’t wait to see how you go with it.

    Pic dump

Since the last update, I’ve bought a set of Caprice fog lights and indicators, and a set of my favourite wheels, Simmons V5’s which I painted the same colour as the car.

Completely forgot about this thread, probably overdue for an update.

I still have the car, a few dailies have come and gone (sold my WM Caprice for a Navara) but the VR has stayed tucked in the shed.

It got treated to a new cam (H268) + lifters for Holden’s Dream Cruise for the end of manufacturing. I’ve also slowly cleaned it up a bit more and added a B&M Shifter to make the auto a little nicer to drive.

I picked up some AU thermos today which I’ll start cutting up and wiring over the next few weeks.

You know all those self serve touch screen terminals you all use at Coles/Woolies, thats right the ones that tell you to put your items in the bagging area 20 times before cracking the shits and giving up…….yeah, I build, install and maintain very similar systems in the hospitality industry, and yes, they piss even us off sometimes too.

I wanted in school to work with machines/hands on work. I would love to move over to a trade/hands on work if I ever got the opportunity. (I used to be a telco/data cabler).

I do actually have a flanged rear section, so with 2 bolts I can go between the rear muffler and straight pipe.

Unfortunately without the rear it’s very loud, I live in a pretty quiet area with elderly neighbors who have a very low tolerance for noise.

I really only need that few db more than what I currently have. Which has made me think I will just hold off and go for a similar setup to what I have now but in a 3″ instead of a 2.5. I am hoping that will give me that little extra edge without going over the top.

Unfortunatly Holden seems to have done a pretty good job of sound proofing the cabin of the statesmans, the Exhaust is a pretty reasonable note on the outside, but inside it’s very quiet unless I am accelerating, and being the driver it would be nice to hear the note a bit from inside.

Did yours still have the rear muffler attached?

Like above, a loose rocker could cause issues like that.

I have also seen rockers tap against the rocker covers at certain rpm too, the 5L rocker covers if not tensioned correctly can slide down slightly causing contact between the tip of the rocker and the cover.

So do I, thats what drew me to it originally.

This is about as new as my taste goes, but it still makes me feel like I am driving something much older than it is. (especially with essentially 50 year old engine technology haha)

    Cheers Sen.

Decided to get away from it all for a bit, safe to say i’m going to be spending the public holiday tomorrow detailing the car now, i’m finding dirt in parts of the car I never even knew existed.

Maybe give ULX a call and see what they recommend in the ULX range being in SA.

Most of the really high performance race car and track car guys in SA either run Royal Purple or ULX oil.

I have run penrite HPR30 for years, I love it, mainly because I want something with high zinc for the flat tappet cam etc

Forum is looking great, I can easily see this becoming the new go to Commodore forum.
