Bit of an update,

Callum at AV-DC modified the VYII Calais cluster for me and installed some red LED’s behind the cluster needles and the LCD screens, I took a picture of it but it looks orange thanks to a phone camera.

Bought two new Kumho KU27 tires for the rear as they were not legal. Tread wear rating of 600 means they should last a while, not as much grip as the KU22’s on the front though, ASK ME HOW I KNOW
Over the Easter long weekend I made a trip from Adelaide to Warrnambool Thursday the 13th, a few small towns in Vic then Melbourne and back to Adelaide on my Birthday the 17th.
On they way back I managed to make it all the way from my sisters house in North Melbourne all the way home and to work the next day, average economy was 8.9L/100km with frequent overtaking of numpties doing 80 in 100 and 110 zones.

Going to do another engine service next weekend along with the transmission as well as it is overdue.

Over the last couple of weekends I have been servicing it, just taking it slowly as I haven’t worked on the LS1 platform before.
Oil change was easy enough, used Nulon 10W40 again with a GM filter, replaced the fuel filter with a GM one as well, cleaned the air intake panel filter with the K&N spray and changed the spark plugs today.
Only picture I took was of the spark plugs when I removed them, they are NGK PZT5RA plugs which are about 70,000KM old.
They were replaced with AC Delco 41-805 plugs.

Great name and great choice in colour of the car too. I might be biased though, lol. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Nick, been on this forum for a little bit, it doesn’t have as much traffic so I don’t tend to check in as often.

What is it with Nicks and red cars ?

Maybe you should get a red car too! :thumbs-up:

Smart man! I hope you had a good holiday too.

I should probably create my new build thread now I actually have the car.. :hmm:

Just bumping this up to see if it is back from the blaster yet?
I am quite impressed with your head on approach with doing all the bodywork yourself, that’s how I learned to work on cars :good: :good:

All this body work is reminding me of a online show on YouTube called Project Binky. The only thing original on that car is the roof lol.

So, nothing has happened since the last update, time to sell the wagon.

It has been a fantastic economic daily for the last two and a years, minimal issues but time for better and faster.

My choices were either sink another $8k into the wagon for what I want to achieve or just buy another car with the goodies already there, second choice is much better. New thread when new car is purchased!

LS1 time!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Okay, long time no update, that’s for sure!
A few months ago I was heading home and the engine started knocking, oops.
Because that happened, the plan has been to convert it to LS, perfect timing right?!
I left it to sit in the front yard and didn’t bother touching it up until Friday just gone, turns out the a coil pack was the problem and back on the road.

No LS1 just yet, but at least I can drive it as a daily again.

Update time, it’s been a while for those that are following.
Picked up some second hand high end drivers for a price I couldn’t refuse. Morel Elate 6’s :)
Went to Callum at AV-DC and he fabricated some pods so they fit behind the stock door trim.
The MDF pods were sealed with a rubberized spray on coating so the MDF does not soak moisture in the future.

With them installed, I still didn’t have a sub stage in the car- still! A friend had found a fairly cheap monoblock amplifier which I picked up, old Digital Designs goodness. It’s a bit scratched up from previous owners/ idiots who thought it would be a good idea to dig and scratch at what was probably a Cash Converters sticker on there. Doesn’t matter though, it will rarely get seen. :)

Also got a free set of VZ alloy satin silver interior door handles, pays to know the right people ;)

While I was at it, I picked up a WH Statesman cluster a price too good to be true, but it worked so I had it programmed with the car. The gear selector doesn’t light up but we have put that down to not having a HIGH BCM in the car.

Finally got a subwoofer and box and installed that. The trophies are from a SQ and SPL competition that was over in Echuca a couple weekends ago and the shiny gold one is from another SQ competition this weekend just gone. :)

In the midst of all of this, the gas system backfired (full throttle and low on gas, surged and pop goes the weasel).
I checked if I had blown anything up, nope.
About a week after that I could hear some rattling and the throttle wasn’t as it used to be, opened up the air box and voila!

It was great when the Beemer was walled, sadly not any more.
Can’t wait to see the Hearse painted too, so much prep work has gone into it so far.

I noticed the Husky crazy eyes aswell hahaha Good job on the pillar installs how did you get the factory texture?

^ yea I have same question, they came up great, how did you get the texture? Btw you don’t know a guy with a hearse called Adam do you? He is into the crazy, melt your ears, sound system stuff…

Septone texture coat, then 2-3 light coats of Septone Matte Black, only light coats.
If you go too heavy, it will just ruin the texture effect and give you the normal orange peel effect from paint.

Yes, I do know Adam! Great guy. I worked with him for just over a year at a sheet metal factory until we were both made redundant.

He and I are part of a “team” currently building a Mitsubishi L300 van for sound competitions, lots of work will be done over the weekend.

Haha, that’s not my dog unfortunately, that is Jamie’s from Loudz Creations, works out of his shed.
If you noticed from the second last picture, there’s even husky hair on the headlight lens haha.

My girlfriend and I are planning to get a miniature Dachshund sometime during September as a first pet, so that should be fun!
Little dog, little poop, no problems ;-)

Long time no update!!
Finally finished the pillars with Callum, decided to go matte black as I’ll be doing the rest of the trims black eventually.

Ooooh, factory finish!

Washed, clayed, polished and waxed my car with what I had in the shed for the first time in the year I’ve owned the car. (I have only went to car washes up until this point, stupid me).

Roof and front end have seen better days, might fix it one day. Yes, that is after polishing and waxing.

Went back to see Jamie at Loudz Creations to do some more work to my headlights.

The LED’s that were in the projector shroud had all died due to heat, so we replaced them with proper Morimoto LED angel eyes that will withstand the heat and will look great for many years.

Masked and prepared for paint.

Quick test out of the box to make sure they work.

Angel eyes installed, headlights sealed and installed again, husky approved.

And one more shot, just because.

Oh and now my gas converter is leaking from the breather and inlet line, will have to get that replaced real soon.

Thanks for looking :)

Getting accepted for another full time job today after getting my two weeks notice last week.
What also made me smile is the irony- I recently moved up to Elizabeth from Noarlunga in Adelaide, because I was working in Wingfield for the last 19 months and needed to move closer so I did.
Now I’m back working in Lonsdale down south, doing the same length trip that I was doing before for work LOL

I recommend NOT putting HID’s in stock headlights, they are blinding to other road users.

If you want to do it the right way, get high quality projectors retrofitted into your headlight casings as I have, check out my build log.

What part of Adelaide are you in? LOL.
I’ve gotten a heap of footage with my dash cam AJ, mostly people not paying attention and swerving between lanes, red light runners and right hand lane hogs.
