Posts: 154Yes is fine article form US parts sales perspective but written by an academic or a journalist. Interesting style just seems odd to me.
I buy from these guys quite a bit, get their guff in post and via email, watch their promo / informative videos as YouTube subscriber. Thing is of course reseller-driven ie. if it’s not off-the-shelf then no mention. Same with preferred brand X over brands A to Z.
I think there is definitely a need for how-to DIY mods for GenIV V8 Zeta, with pros and cons of options, versus performance meal deals offered at the dealer or aftermarket sticker packs.
It would definitely provide gravitas for more liquidity of forum users, not least because there are better local experts here than at Summit.
Perhaps ultimately a very short YouTube intro, with endcards to three or four very tight subject videos and capitalise on the burly by spinning it out on social channels.
But in the first instance content topic cards are covered in outline by one pinned sticky linking the main subject themes. Just like a Wiki.
There’s plenty pre-classified, proven-interesting “LS3” modding content (let’s just call it that) ready as a start point, with sufficient detail for hyperlinking rabbit holes if required. I started something like this was about to contribute to the tech section of another forum, so have a structure and loads of pirated assets to rig this up.
I think detail sections would be collaborative editorial but to kick off with most basic stuff what I have is good to withstand a heavy critical broadside.
So pinned, taxidermic simple subject level where content is controlled. Next detail subject level contains a pinned overview of tech topics. All other contributions are free form, like YouTube not unduly moderated. Rated editorial considered for escalation to the pinned Wiki.

Posts: 154Slowly picking up the pieces of this thread in the aftermath of Photobucket
Over the past couple of years have come to understand the cam scope (combustion phasing) with VVT a lot more.
Penny dropped for me firstly to think in terms of advertised @ 0.006” vs 0.050” silliness, then not to think in terms of static Duration or Lobe Seperation.
The key to combustion phasing was to recognise 80% of the effective result with different cams is determined by the Intake centreline – which is LSA less ground-in advance – abbreviated as ICL.
TL;DR Easy to show this in the video below, where the scanner shows the INtake PHaser Actual position Bank one INPHAB1 in camshaft degrees under different cooperating conditions. Double that for crank degrees and add the static (ground-in) advance.
INPHAB1 x 2 (crank degrees) + 111º (115º less 4º ground-in advance) = ICL
For those who like technical stuff and want to understand what’s actually going on (you can prolly see given lambda, O2, MAF and injectors):
- Idle 550 RPM is at full CR using early intake valve close (EIVC). 111° ICL, 63° IVC
- Off idle light cruise part throttle low RPM the combustion is way over expanded, late intake valve close (LIVC). 136° ICL, 89° IVC
- Typical cruise varying part load including WOT under PE, ICL ranges between 120°-130°
- WOT during PE but under MBT the ICL phases to 111° (EIVC)
- WOT around torque peak starts moving to straightup install position, ICL = LSA
- WOT after torque peak the cam phases to follow the inertial charge crested by the overlap, moving ICL to about 120° which also reduces pumping losses
In old school speak it allows 95% of the max cam duration possible because it is dynamic, also the smallest Prius cam mode possible.
Result is it prowls around like a big cat V8 yet steady low idle, flexible performance delivery, with turbo diesel efficiency.
Good cheap mod.

Posts: 154I’m not going to debate what happened on JC, I think a ban was a bit heavy handed and I believe in the recent past when there have been complaints it was dealt with amicably between us. You have to admit though you have a propensity of stringing together select words which seem to irritate some users and you know we live in a very PC society. You my friend are one misunderstood mofo…..
Maybe
Not debate but hear me out for a sec: What makes the ban offensive to most of the member base is (as pointed out by almost 100 members in 12 hours), that the banter between me and my friend on the thread was never abusive, he feels terrible this happened and not had the same treatment.
Imogenr (retired ole fuddy shadows me everywhere) had a whine about the standard of acceptable communication, does me in as a pirate. Yes Clair overreacted, crossed a line by not giving notice, big noting and posting a smart arse remark about it, liked only by Imogenr.
Then the judgement thread discussing pros and cons of me, open vote WTF? Final word from the forum’s other ole fuddy calaber in before the close abusing me directly in a rant, calling me an arrogant prick, words way more offensive than in my thread but apparently that’s ok, left for posterity?
In the name of equality luv, please take that down and issue an infraction, else left only to be a mockery.

Posts: 154OK first I got banned for saying that with a few of well though out mods to a late model V8 Commie, and you’re in supercar territory. Well, copped much heat from four mods who basically hate commodores, and one bloke who started name calling I PMed and asked to stop personally, didn’t stop reported threats to mod who then announced me being a sook blah blah, said he was being pusssy-whipped by his chick (always whining about her) and that was it.
Left it alone for a few years then caught up with mates who urged me to go back, been there two years no probs, then a mod from the past logs on in a bitch and kicks me off until next year for inoffensive banter with an old mate she decided was ‘trolling’?
Most members there are courteous, thick skinned Holden blokes, but moderated by a middle aged chick who drives a Jeep doesn’t contribute or organise at all, jumps on once or twice a year to wreak havoc… that’s a troll innit?
Anyways the knives and tall tales that come out when you leave

Posts: 154Wow that’s fantastic. So could you make a custom thermostat housing for example?
Yea I would think so, ABS would I reckon do it.
Maybe, but I used to work with an ABS pipe and fitting company years ago and thought to built a remote filter adaptor but temp was borderline reliability issue.
So it it feasible to use 3D printing to create a thermostat (and heater plumbing) mold for manufacture in ceramic or alloy, or other material?
