Yep that is how I understand it works. The vehicle body has to be a build date earlier than the engine block build date.

Your right though, I think everyone has thought about that odd fire V8 note in a later build body like the V2 monaro.

Do you have a couple more to load on ?

I am sure I saw something of yours on FB which was the gauge pod in the VR/VS Commy upper drivers door vent, as well as another for under the stereo with gauge(s) & a phone sized pocket ?

    Cheers

Recently fitted a new Solid Lifter Cam & Lifters to a mates 5 litre, with Yella Terra 1.7:1 Platinum Adjustable Roller rockers.

Was very surprised as to how quiet they were once all set up & adjusted correctly. No longer the noisy solids I remembered from days gone by.

Were your pistons forged that you have just taken out ?

If so forged pistons (usually 2618 grade) have very low silicon in them so they will expand a bit when getting up to operating temps, as they start out with at least 4.5 – 6 thou clearance.  Also the reason they are noisy when cold is they tend to rock around until the piston crown has expanded. Partly the reason they wear rings out quickly in street cars, is not getting up to operating temps every outing. So the rings get a real work out.

Some Forged pistons are actually tapered smaller at the top to allow for the expansion. So rocking the tops of the piston around in the bores may seem to show excessive clearance, but they do have that need due to the expansion they will produce as they warm up.

More Silicon in the piston alloy mix makes them expand less, but also makes the piston material harder & maybe more brittle. Also less wear from pistons with more silicon content. High silicon content pistons (Hypereutectic) expand less so clearances could be tightened up which help improve emissions. Which is why OEM car manufacturers use cast hypereutectic pistons.

How do I attach images from Facebook? The info at the start of this thread has disappeared?

Maybe try joining up to Imgur as I did. But who knows how long that will be around too.

The facebook option I didn’t read it through so can’t remember how.

Just buy. VDO corrector kit and save he hassle of trying to find the right gear.

Yeah suppose I could do it that way. But I am better with mechanical fixes than electrical anyday lol.

Has anybody tried using Google Photos, will that work as a replacement for Pussbucket?

I don’t see anything in your post (4 above this 09:30am on 20th July) Gary ?

Has any one used Flickr for photo sharing looking at trying it

I joined Flickr but found it not as user friendly as PB was. I have used Imgur which I am finding better.

Bit late to the party on this one but a few observations, Holden Front end geometry is terrible, for some reason they engineered a ton of Bump Steer into the design when I built the Lexcen front end I wasn’t able to do anything about is due to the engine to rack clearance so I made a couple of correctors and used Rod ends, it now has minimal Bump steer and is so much better for it. The Next thing is Holden’s version of variable ratio steering… it’s HORRID, they use a rack with different tooth spacing at the ends to change the ratio off centre and then Twist the Rack to keep the correct tooth contact patch giving the weird off center transition feel.. In the Lexcen I use a Steering quickener so it’s blows through the transition and you barely notice it but the nicer way to do it is what I did in the Tonner was to use a Linear Rack, again a huge improvement in steering feel, could do with being a quicker ratio but it’s a huge fat long car so it’s never going to be nimble. It would be nice to find a Linear Rack that we could use in the earlier cars, maybe one day I’ll get off my but and source something that’ll work but for now I’m happy with what I’ve done. Strut braces, the Bigger more solid it is the more of an effect it’ll have as the towers on these cars are a bowl of Jelly.. Adjustable Strut tops, something with a positive location once locked up is a must, I tried the Whiteline setup and found it moved around a lot no matter how hard you bolted it down. Castor is good, can’t see any reason why adjustable Castor arms wouldn’t be legal as they’re totally bolt in, lots of castor may mean it’s a bit less nimble in the tight stuff but high speed it’s brilliant. Sway Bars, on the adjustable bars the first hole is stiff the last hole is soft, the key here is balance so you need a rear bar that will compliment the front, if not you’ll end up with an under steering pig.

    Speaking of Linear Racks.

I also owe a VY Ute which I have spent a little on improving the handling / steering. Even with Strut Brace (OEM), Whiteline 30mm Front Sway bar & Pedders Xa Extreme Coilovers all round. I found it felt nervous in the steering at speeds over 145kmh. Not sure if it was a bump steer thing I was feeling or what, just not sure-footed on the country roads. I hate saying it but a lot of the older Fords (XR-XT-XW-XY & so on) felt so much better a high speeds, you could just about fall asleep at the wheel as you felt that comfortable with the steering/ handling.

While digging around on Holden Parts lists I found the VY Maloo Ute’s got a Linear Rack fitted.  A weird part number as it started with SV- & then about 5 numbers, so guessing the SV meant Special Vehicle. About 8 years ago you could still buy one through GMH if you had the correct VIN number to show you owed an Original HSV. It had to be a special order through our states GMH parts (AMCAP) supplier. A good friend inside AMCAP said he could wave the required VIN check if I wanted one ordered, I never went ahead with it at the time as the price ($1080.00) was a little high for me to justify.

I suppose after all this time they would no longer be available.

I am not a bright spark when it comes to the computer world, but my thinking would say it is something like Photobucket where it would need absolutely massive storage capacity to be able to host a link forever & a day ? Maybe dropping links off after a year or so frees up computer power for FB.

Only “issue” with Facebook hosting is it’ll time out after a certain period and become a broken link.. Yes J1F it’s stored on FB’s server.

What if you store all your pics on your own FB page & then link to them through that. Will the links still become broken after a period of time I wonder ?

    Good progress.

Curious to the size of the two LED lights on the stand in your work area there ?

Thinking I might change mine over to LED’s as the floods I have burn the power when on.

I stopped hosting files on puke bucket years ago, I use a couple of forums to host my pics that allow users to upload and then hotlink from them to other forums if/when needed. Been a donating member on the JC forum gives the user extra privileges which include a increased upload limit, I also tend to crop photos so that I’m not uploading >1mb file per image to help stretch how many photos can be uploaded.

I also crop nearly all pics I have posted up using IrfanView to reduce the file size down as a lot of forums have a 100kb or less file size for posting pics up direct.

Hi all, some of you would know I spent a lot of time on the L67Torque forum. As a admin from the start, to take it over for a few years & now back to just admin on it. After paying out of your own pocket for years to keep it going for the benefit of others, I too got tired of trying to hussle members to throw a little in to help. With the coming on of Facebook less & less people came to the forums. Using it as a storage for tech info & some facebook sites would link back to it. I am not an IT expert so always needed help from others with computer problems.

So I do know how you feel Gary trying to keep people involved.

This Photobucket thing has really rattled me, as I was always trying to do how to pics for the forum & the size limit on pics caused so much hassles. I found imageshack & used that for a while till it started become unreliable. Then someone put me onto Photobucket…..wow, you could put up full sized pics without a problem. TILL NOW.

I am a free member on PB with 2 gb allowed upload & an extra 8 gb for being a good member. Currently I have only used 2% it says. I have been talking via email to PB about their sudden ransom demands. I am getting nowhere as I think I maybe talking to a computer judging by the replies.

They gave me a link to download my pics after I said it was extorsion & wanted my pics back to see if I could get them hosted elsewhere.  Well needless to say the link doesn’t work, with it crashing before it gets started & then saying they will zip it up & send to your email (which never happens).

I am most annoyed because the suddeness has caught us all out, with most not knowing what pic & in what order we had posted in all our previous threads. Trying download or save one pic at a time is just too frustrating with slow internet connection etc.

I too have tried tapatalk & if it is suppose to be fool proof, well just call me Stupid ! I cant work with it at all. I really feel worried for all forums now. Most people will just give up caring now. If I was a good computer geek, & I wish I was. I would have my own server & host my own pics.

Where to now I wonder as I don’t  see PB doing too well out of their sudden decision.

Just waiting on conformation from my engineer those adjustable rods are road legal here in SA, if they are i am going to try a pair.

Did you ever get an answer back on the adjustable castor rods ? I bought & fitted the Whiteline kit which has stamped on the side of the rods “Race Use Only”. So gather they are not legally acceptable on street cars. :hmmm:

I went from a standard castor of around 4 degrees up to just over 6 degrees before the tyres started rubbing on the front inner guard plastic when wheel is turned to full lock (17×8″ VT SS Alloys with 235/45/17 tyres).

I want more Castor than I currently can get from the Z-bars, so am looking at the adjustable K-MAC Camber/Caster Top Kits (Stage 3 Full Race),

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Holden-Commodore-VR-VS-Front-Camber-Caster-kit-Stage-3-FULL-RACE-201616-3L-/131786032651?hash=item1eaf0f460b

To try for about 8 -10 degrees caster & bring the front wheels back into the centre of the guard arc.

Concerns I have are a few people on other forums are saying they are to harsh being solid mounting. Breaking welds around the towers when used on a daily streeter. Has anyone who uses them now got any feed back on them, VR Senator 065 maybe ?

Have been told they may make a softer version which will still give you the adjustment required ?

    Cheers
