Hey mate, who did the stereo? If you don’t mind me asking how much did it cost? Considering something like this with a stock VR tape deck.

I did the stereo. (I’m an electronic engineer)

That’s awesome. Don’t suppose you want to do another, lol. I think there are places around that can do them but don’t know where.

Yeah I’m not a big fan of the pod filters either, good to see another second gen getting some love can’t wait to see how it turns out

It was a cheap pod and tube just stuck in there. Quite an ugly set up.

I’ve got an air box and K&n panel setup if your keen? Pods work great. But they must be in an enclosure.

Got one in my lot of spares. Factory square one with intake hose. But I think the intake hose is from earlier models VN/VP. Need to just buy a filter for it, I’ll just chuck a Ryco one in there. Only used the K&N out of my car as it was all I had available to me at the time. Plus my car isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

Shame he sold it. If its the one of thinking of it had a clubsport interior and its 5lt converted?

No not that car. That’s my other one. It’s currently in pieces while I fit a trans cooler and get it ready for the trans to be done. That won’t be going anywhere, that’s worth more to me than this one will ever be I think.

    Nice score mate, looks great.

Cheers Gary. Can never have too many VR’s. I will get back to you in regards to the gauge holder too. Been really busy lately and time isn’t something I have had a lot of.

    is it this car?

    They’re both Nick’s cars.

Yeah both are mine. I was waiting for someone to get confused. Mine looked similar to this at one stage. Same wheels and all. This one is a Genuine SS but mine is a bitsa. This is the next project, I’ll get mine going first then focus on a resto of this one.

Drove it all weekend and it went well. Might need some attention to the suspension but otherwise it was a fairly comfortable ride.

Yeah thats it. Had a standard  air box to put in as well. They had some ugly pod in there. Had to steal the air filter and battery from the other car. Plus found the hazard switch playing up which stuffed the indicators. Had a few spares of those too. It will slowly get fixed up. Did all the easy stuff first. Plus it makes some space in the shed as well.

Such a nice neat car. Great work on it so far. Where did you get all the brand new connectors from. Would love to that on mine one day.

Looks very neat. Great colour too, but I’m a bit biased.

Not LS based but try a heat shield around it. I used one off a VE V6, quite cheap (bought it years ago though).

It’s modified slightly to fit and work. It has a clip/clamp that fits on the solenoid and then I made a bracket using the starter mounting bolt and riveting it to the shield.

Good on ya for passing on some of your skill to the young fella. I bet he loved it.

Saw the vid on FB of your son driving the Senator. By the look of concentration on his face , you could only imagine what was going through his head at the time.

Awesome looking VK. I do prefer the look of the original wheels personally, but still looks good either way.

I have a question re the club rego, as I am not sure we have the same thing here in SA. How does a relatively modern car like this one get it? I assumed it was only for old restored cars? Are there restrictions on where and how often you can drive it?

We can’t get it, it sucks. The only thing we have that is close is for standard cars like Kingswoods, Monaros older Falcons, Camaro, Mustangs etc. They have to remain factory (not even extractors) and you have to be part of a club. My dad has it on his HQ, wish I could get it for mine.

Pretty sure there’s something to do with the tuners having to pay extra to get the tuning software to run the car out of second, I think they call it a pill? I think if they are not going for some mental power run they leave it in 2nd so its cheaper. Tractive effort is really just the torque produced at the rollers on the dyno by the wheels, which unlike power is effected by the gear ratio of the drive train, so what gear its in, also the diff ratio, wheel diameter etc all effect it. That’s a really nice curve above Nick for a streeter, tractive effort is very flat, meaning doesn’t really matter what gear you are in if you stomp on it you will get a nice solid pull.

Never heard of that one Gary. Sounds odd that you have to pay extra to tune in different gears.

When I get my trans sorted I will see about getting on my mates dyno and see what it makes and if any different to what it did on Leons.

This was mine. Also has 2nd gear tractive effort. Not sure what gear he did the run in, didn’t think it was 2nd. That was still with the 3.08 gears too. I was like you though, wasn’t concerned about power. Just glad to have it tuned and being able to tune it.

Change the rack ends before u change the rack.

I was thinking the same thing knowing they are different part numbers but lengths are the same. Tie rods may be longer but no measurements on site though. Steering rack might be the only option.

All depends on the engineer and most importantly the state you register it in too.

My sisters boyfriend got a RB25det engineered in a R31. The r31 came with the RB30 but in N/A form not turbo. He upgraded front brakes (R33), put coilovers in, front mount intercooler, exhaust and got it engineered. The good thing for him is because there were no mods to the engine apart from the intercooler so no emissions test was needed just and idle one which it passed as it was all stock. Did the lane change and braking test which it passed. Originally they wanted the coilovers welded up so they could not be adjusted (height) but the engineer got around that as he had done others with coilovers previously. Was actually able to get it engineered sitting lower than the allowable eyebrow height listed for it (using the 100m rule) and could of gone lower had the exhaust sat higher. Showing the engineer the things done as you go is required so they can see what is done, agree to it being acceptable then when it is complete they can sign it off easier too.

I know it’s not a Commodore but shows what can be done I guess. Best thing to do is ask the rego department for a list of prefer engineers and talk to them as they can get things done others wouldn’t think of as they know the rules and can push the boundaries a bit more.

This is a basic engineering task compared to Garys Senator but I hope this helps in some way.

Only thing is you wont see much of it.

Even better, I like things that people don’t notice unless they look closely.  :good:
