Yeah he is. He’s got a couple of days off in the week now though. He works with Athol Burns at a shed in Langwarren. I’d be going there SLE355. You’re paying him then and you still get the guru on the tools at a fair discount
October 19, 2015 at 5:45 pm #10311You’d definitely make money on that venture
October 19, 2015 at 4:11 pm #10305Ha, sorry Gary.
One more email of finished interior, and one dyno run with the sound difference of the 4 into 1’s.
Your help is appreciated.
October 18, 2015 at 9:32 pm #10283Heads are CNC’d by Higgins. Manifold work done by Shane Cable. Initially had a Come Racing single plane. TP up 45hp on flow bench.
October 18, 2015 at 4:39 pm #10261Cava, that manifold is a good bit of kit if it matches…
Sorry to do it to you Gary, I’m smashing you with e-mails. Just do it at your leisure if you can be bothered that is

October 18, 2015 at 4:12 pm #10259Come over Gary. Would also like a look at your pride and joy.
Running manualised forward pattern T400. That and the worm drive 9″ really sucks a lot of power. Sending more pics Gary

October 18, 2015 at 1:31 pm #10250Sorry mate. I’m a pain in the freckle. I have tried, but can’t seem to get it working. Again, sorry to bother you
October 18, 2015 at 1:07 pm #10246Trying to load pics Gary via photobucket. Not working…. I know it’s a pain in the arse, but could you be bothered if I e-mailed you the pics? If not, no stress.
I’m using an iPad
Also, I’ll sent dyno footage of the 4 into 1’s. Sounds a lot better than Try Y’s

October 18, 2015 at 1:02 pm #10245Yes Manta, both 1 3/4 primaries. Same collector size and very similar collector length. I’ve been told a heap of times that Holden V8’s love the Try Y’s, but these things should’ve been spot on. They were supposed to be the correct ‘everything.’ Anyhow, doesn’t matter, it was a good back to back test and I’m rid of them.
A friend is about to put them on his NOS 355. I think they may be better suited to FI. And your pipes are pretty good Manta, not off the shelf jobs.
And yeap, it’s all about matching parts.
October 18, 2015 at 11:13 am #10234Not really major issues mate, just expensive. Had to get manifold runners built up on one side and removed on the other. I will put some pictures up soon. You’ll see the gasket has been cut to match exact head port size, you’ll see the work that went into aligning it. But, awesome manifold when aligned.
I was using dirty old Try Y’s inch and 3/4 primaries. Got a set of 4 into 1’s, lost 30hp and 13lbft. Yeap, totally understand loosing a bit of torque but 30hp? Claimed 12 to 15 REAR wheel kW gain…. Also peak power made lower in rev range than the Try Y’s. Anyway, left the Try Y’s on.
Just a pity manufacturer wanted zero to do with it. Sounded ALOT better with the 4 into 1’s though. My engine just didn’t like them for some reason. Sold them yesterday. Lost a few hundred.

October 18, 2015 at 10:02 am #10230Yeah, it’s on E85. Engine is pretty much the same as it was. Changed ring pack and bearings, went for a Crane 88341 with Ultra Pro lifters, and upped compression. Had a few oiling mods done. A full length windage tray fitted also. Other than that, it’s the same engine. I’ve had breathing issues that gummed valves and took away 150ish hp and the Comp Cam and lifters were shit. Had a couple of other issues, but don’t want to air them as it might upset some big companies.
I was happy with the numbers, but that’s all they are really, numbers on a screen. I’ll see what it does on the 1/4. I’m hoping to get to Calder Friday night to see what it can do. Cars are getting pretty insane now. Just look at the times those two Fords are running in True Street.
Anyway, talking shit now. Spewing you got rid of your NA combo (and car actually) Cava. It got knocked off recently yeah?
October 18, 2015 at 6:47 am #10218It’s been an on-going project over the past few years Gary. I do most things, didn’t touch the motor this time round though. I went up to 13.4:1 comp and had lifter sleeves bronze bushed. A few oiling mods in there too,
Immortality, I’m using a standard (but modified) oil pump. The high volume pump chewed the gear on oil drive. I’ll try this for a bit. Still getting near 30 Psi at idle, hot after cruising. I still have a modified high vol pump, but oil pressure is good enough at the moment.
GMH 304, it’s a 396 Stroker.
October 16, 2015 at 7:14 am #10156Thanks Kroozer. I’ve got a few things to sort out, but will start a build thread when I’m done.

Not going through Gary. Have you changed your Cadgile email address lately? Here’s the dyno sheet anyhow. Can’t seem to upload even with bucket

October 11, 2015 at 8:30 pm #10034It’s not overly complex. Just follow the instruction to the letter, especially earths.
October 11, 2015 at 8:33 am #10018Not sure what’s going on with the above garbage. I can in box if it’s too hard to read or you can buzz me
October 11, 2015 at 8:31 am #10017Morning Manta,
Initial advice I received was to try:
From Micron Engineering…
NGK – R5671A-8
AutoLite – AR3934 (My preference)
Champion – C61CX (My second preference)These are all around the 8 range. But…. I am just about to put my engine back in after some upgrades and my machiner / engine guy (absolute guru) put a variety of plugs in my heads (Yella Terra -9’s) and told me to ditch the Autolites. They were too short. The electrodes were actually around a 1/4 inch recessed into head, ie not protruding into the chambers. Luckily I was using a 7 amp MSD system which pretty much lights anything.
He suggested (and trial fitted with heads off) a tapered seat plug like NGK BP7EFS. They also come in 8’s. I’m not sure if this is an issue particular to YT or would apply to all EFI heads.
The the initial plug advice was received by another pretty switched on bloke. Not sure if this helps you too much Manta. The above plugs recommended are all EFI plugs, 8 range, non projected and non resistor. I guess you can only try them and look at the plugs after trials

October 10, 2015 at 6:32 am #10007I use a non projected 7 for EFI heads. I assume they make colder plugs. They made a fair bit of difference to cold start and idle on E85.
October 9, 2015 at 8:05 am #9973Have you looked at the Autolites Manta?
