December 27, 2015 at 10:53 am #12719Hey guys, keep jumping on here every now and again. cars still going good. been driving it every now and again. Took it to a local meet the other weekend and was lucky enough to get a photo. Have had a few people ask me if its carbied haha. Also had a few people comment saying how tough it sounds, which makes me pretty happy haha. Not bad for a cammed 304
December 27, 2015 at 10:47 am #12718haha wicked skid! sounds tough as hell!
November 11, 2015 at 8:25 pm #11138good to see you’ve made the switch over!
October 7, 2015 at 8:15 pm #9922I can agree with that! went passenger in a mates VX clubby at powercruise. 408 turbo pushing 750 on run in. 6 speed dog box. Makes it way more fun chopping people grabbing gears haha.
Would love to see this car in the flesh one day
September 27, 2015 at 5:57 pm #9652If you dont mind me asking how much did the 4wd locka set you back? Was looking into that for my car and the shops only 15 minutes down the road.
Be cool to see this at matsuri, will be heading out to watch this year!
September 13, 2015 at 7:56 pm #9177yeah exactly. Learnt my lesson, Least it did no damage. just have to be very careful i suppose.
September 13, 2015 at 7:21 pm #9175oh and dont buy fuel pumps off ebay. What i thought was a genuine walbro was a cheap piece of crap. Now has a raceworks in tank pump and loves it! solved all the problems with the car.
September 13, 2015 at 7:20 pm #9174havent updated in a while. Just been tinkering in the background doing little things to the car.
Took some photos with a mate when i first got it running.
Just been out driving it every fortnight or so and just enjoying driving it
Have to admit, it’s pretty cool having two cars from 1990. My Vn and my Daily GQ patrol td42t.
And my recent purchase, got some -10 fittings welded onto standard rocker covers, and got my catch can from TuffBillet on ebay. Got it for a rediculous price and looks the goods. Gonna leave it silver for a bit i think. Polished fuel rails should tie in with it nicely. Looking at getting it on the dyno in a couple weeks too for a tickle up, then diff upgrade and onto the interior. Just loving driving it at the moment though.
Oh and it has a torque power manifold now haha.
May 25, 2015 at 5:48 pm #7233cheers for the reply guys.
I’ve just stumbled upon something. A standard throttle body opens the throttle clockwise relative to the TPS. On my proflow tb, it open it counter clockwise. Could this potentially be my problem? and what would be the way to go to fix this?
May 25, 2015 at 5:41 pm #7232hey mate, Yeah the car was previously tuned for the manifold change before i got the manifold put on.
May 24, 2015 at 7:51 pm #7196Not bad for original paint on the old girl.
May 24, 2015 at 5:59 pm #7189thanks bud. Honestly i couldnt tell you, ive done about 1500km in it since i rebuilt it. Been strugling with a miss under load for some time. Changed every sensor on the manifold and still this same problem. Gonna start a thread to see if anyone has an idea.
but i drove it today. Did the manifold change last week and the back leaked oil. so replaced the gaskets again, all ok now. Threw a 82 degree thermostat in and runs at a good temp now. drove fantastic for about 20 mins, deffinately a big difference between the manifold change. You give it a bootfull and it climbs to 4000 then just misses and stutters. Another instance after that was a took off in first and planted it, and it just cuts out. I slowly release my foot off the throttle and ittl just back to life.
anyway, here’s s pic of the engine bay. Gonna start tidying it up after i fix this issue.
May 11, 2015 at 7:40 pm #6706looking sharp mate! love that interior.
May 10, 2015 at 8:00 pm #6630Ohh man i love this look! Filter top is going to be black. getting closer to driving again.
May 10, 2015 at 7:44 pm #6627thanks for your comments and help guys. got the manifold on, and started to plumb everything on.
Few things for anyone else doing this. Im using a proflow throttle body, paired with a 2 1/2″ filter (flat base), it clears the linkages for the throttle body and the fuel rails perfectly. Im going to be using a Lokar cable end and a cheap aeroflow like cable bracket.
Probably going to run a lower VN V6 rad hose for the top as ive got the 360 swivel housing. happy days!
May 10, 2015 at 7:32 pm #6624Pretty much the definition of a true street car. The fact you’ve built it with your own hands is simply amazing. Always such a motivation popping into this thread and seeing what you’ve done, and i think i’ve been watching this from close to the beginning.
Congrats on getting it 100% legal. I’m sure words cant even describe your excitement.
May 2, 2015 at 8:43 pm #6162thanks heaps for your reply man. Some great info there.
Did some digging and dummied up my manifold today. Few things i can tell anyone who wants to do this.
MAT Sensor thread is M14 x 1.5
Spacers between the stock fuel rails and Low rise manifold is 60mm with LS1 injectors.
trying to track down a thread tap that 14mm, should hopefully be bolted down tomorrow. Then need to order/make throttle cable bracket and cable end.
April 30, 2015 at 7:54 pm #5976Figured id give this an update. Havent been driving it much due to sorting out my daily car. Bought a 89 GQ patrol and have been throwing a bit of money into that, but now its time to bring some life back into the old girl
My new daily:
