Dont let it stress you out. When i built my engine 1st time it was a yr before i had it back in the car. Then got it tuned and was given it back by well known tuner with blown head gaskets. Asked why oil temps so high and he said ” just drive it, it’ll be fine”. When i found out gaskets blown and confronted him, all i got was ” i should have stayed away, i didnt put engine in car” like it was my fault somehow, used same builder he did too..

Had a gearbox built for it ,12.5k, unbreakable, 3 weeks later im looking for new gearbox. Before i pulled engine out this time i thought id get another reputable tuner to give the tune a tickle, came back running like a pig, gave them one more go,then changed tuners, picked up 45 rwkw. It had standard injector data

The engine was using some oil so i pulled it out last march 2018. Found hot spots in the bore, ring groove TDC, probably caused by that bad tune. ordered new heads and intake from states, they arrive 6 months later. You beauty, asked builder “be back in a month”. Nope machine shop hadnt machined yet. I was expecting short block to be ready, drop heads on and away we go. Now march 2019, 1 yr later, and im hoping ill have engine back in 10 days time.

Just seems to be the way it goes. I just dont worry bout the now, just think of when you have that engine back in the car, going for the 1st drive, and light it up at 120 going down the freeway… YEE HAA

It really doesnt take much to whip off the rocker covers to check lash. 30mins and done

On mine i’ll be replacing springs every 20,000kms.

glad your happy with it and hope we cross paths oneday for the 454 senator shootout lol

Im the same, when the VE came out i thought they looked awesome, still like the VT VX look tho.

It still look standard except for the big exhaust tips and rear diffuser fins, bonnet vents bit of a give away tho..

If i get the 900fwhp it would be neck n neck in a drag between us

Roughly 900fwhp…. I think we are slowly working these engines out. I started with my original block with darton midsleeve 454, rebuilt tht a few times before darton finally said to much power twisting the block.

Then went to the lsx block, had similiar problems to you. Bad tuning from so called good tuners, washed the bores a bit ,leaving hot spots. not using roller rockers causing valve stem seal probs, blowbyGot it to 420rwkw with Ls3 heads and a fast.

This time around we have gone balance crazy with harmonic balancer, flywheel, clutch balanced with rotating assembly, solid roller, tony mamo ported heads and ported msd intake. I dont know how much we will pick up over the ls3 heads ,hoping around 50rwhp, the ported msd intake in comparison test show around 40rwhp over a ported fast, and the solid roller cam should get 30 odd… even the new low volume oil pump will pick up 5-8rwhp.. Once the engine run in  ill put the aviad dry sump set up on and will gain a bit there as well.. The but is i know of a few different builds where they couldnt get past what power you will have now, bout the 430rwkw

Can you notice the difference between hyd roller set up and the solid set up? Sound different? Was looking very smooth in the vid vibration wise

The best bit is it will still be punching lots of torque at wot, id expect 570ftlb

Would feel better bolting it together as well!!

my engines been out about same time yours came out, ill have mine back in a few weeks. Was interested to see what yours achieved. My goal is 500-520rwkw. Should get there ,but u never know.

Awesome result. lots of 454 builds around that same power, its hard pushing the 454 beyond tht power level without going max efort

Are you sure the intake is holding it back? Ive seen cars running the same intake putting out 510+rwkw.

The reason i asked is melling have a new pump out specifically for blocks with priority mains.

Its a high pressure low volume pump. Comparing it to the melling high volume high pressure pump that i was using and lots of LS nuts use, the new pump pumps 9LPM less .

Thats gotta help with windage, cooling etc

I think with the standard pump you would find that you’d have to much flow and it would be bleeding off at pump.

Im also using pushrod restiction for oil.

Im set for street and circuit

Melling pump 10294 15% less volume than stock
