Posts: 167Yeh we did the same about 12 months ago, rings and hone with block in the bay.
Wasn’t super hard to get out but I wasn’t exactly being careful either. anything holding back got chopped or ripped because no care lol.
Wishing I had unbolted the fan as with it and the clutch attached it was actually slightly too long to clear the opening, and did put up a small fight but already had a mate pick-up the motor and box so I’ve now got no choice but to progress.
Thanks for looking

Posts: 167Hopefully getting a vr cluster this week, so first job will be making it physically fit, second is to wire it and make it all work with vx bcm.
I figure the 4L60e ran the same speed sensor so it should talk the same way.

Posts: 167Aiming to have the rest of the engine bay stripped down by end of this Tuesday, unsure on how to treat the new cooling system. but figure if engine goes in I can work out where everything can go after.
Honestly thinking about ducting the stock v6 radiator and mounting it under the front of the engine bay to give me room back in front of the engine.
I’ll keep this thread updated as I go
There’s a bunch of uncertainty with this. uncharted Territory for me ha

Posts: 167Not far off the mark stevoss!
Except I’m likely going turbo rather than blower.
Got some nice stainless headers on my eBay watch list, and aiming for a 3″ exhaust. but I’ve still got the turbo I planned on fitting the four cylinder, t2871 which in pairs is a nice size for the 3.8… hanging one off each header would sit quite nice in my mind. 8psi would sit rather well on 4.44:1 diff ratio

Plenty of room for epic turbo setup
Yes, progress is good just wish I hadn’t had a headache

Posts: 167So some things happened. and I bought some stuff.
Had a horrid headache today otherwise I’m sure I’d have gotten the block out too.
Further progress will come over the following few weeks.
Things I need that I don’t have.
Shifter, push/pull cable, tailshaft, oils, hoses, and finally the electrics.
Unsure if I want to mod the dash cluster or try and make a vr/vs dash cluster fit.

Posts: 167so im going to be running a VX BCM and want to try wiring up a VS style cluster, assuming it fits in the hole.
if i match sensor wires, and warning lights etc, in theory, will it swap over?

Posts: 167Also I can set the Ks to suit the vans if I can go with an earlier cluster.

Posts: 167So the main Q was answered, which is longer runners are of no specific benefit to power production/response opposed to short runners.
Second Q.Does a larger plenum still require intercooling compared to a smaller one.
Third Q. If a turbo was feeding a blower via a fmic, would the blower still also need to be intercooled therefore making the fmic redundant but still needing a cooler to then be post blower, ie: intake>turbo>blower>intercooler>Tb>plenum.

Posts: 167so ive been thinking about what im going to do with the exhaust since its going to have to be custom.
for a stock motor, including the stock headers, is it worth running dual cats and a complete dual exhaust?
i want it to have a nice note, to not drone, but also be somewhat quiet. as my van has a tendency to drone because of cabin resonances.
my other thought, was to run the stock VX Ypipe including the stock cat, and use 2.5″ piping with a single 3″ dogleg(offset/offset) glasspack muffler and then back down to 2.5″ piping to the tail.

Posts: 167the rear bar clip was actually slightly too narrow as the falcon tapers down quite a bit, where the commodore is quite square in the bum, i had to cut it in the centre, left about a 3″gap in the centre
i screwed it on because i didnt care about the visual, but some good glue and it would be there permanently.
the side skirts were too long, as you can see by the XR badge being right at the end.
i did have to trim alot of the stock falcon mounts off to make it sit right, wasnt hard to do tho.
i think it will suit the VTSS front lip quite well.

Posts: 167Was asking purely to do away with having to buy a manifold and heads.
Wondering if there would be a measurable difference or not
And then to add to the first post, how it would behave once a turbo is included in the setup, like compound boost.
And would having a larger plenum under the blower affect intake temps at all? Or would a cooler still be required?

Posts: 167So we got the motor out of its hole today, then parked it where it’s likely to stay for a short while.
Next week I’ll be able to afford to purchase the conversion kit, but it sounds like it’s going to be at least two weeks before I can actually purchase it tho as they’re about to do a production run of my kit.
Here’s a couple pictures.

Posts: 167It is, it doesn’t fit 100% but I like the look of it on there. Its a touch short at the wheel arch, about 1cm or so on each side.
Hoping to find some BA xr skirts and rear bar lip like I had on my old vr before I moved it on.

Posts: 167Vats = vehicle anti theft system
Pcm =powertain control module (I think)
The vx runs a flash setup not a memcal setup.
I’m sending it to delcowizzid in NZ to have it reflashed as no vats. Already been in contact with him.
Can’t wait. It’s getting so close now I’m feeling three maybe four weeks max
