Posts: 167Thanks mate, I’ll get a bit more done and I’ll post up tomorrow.
Need a stereo location yet as this box’s main purpose is a sound box.
Also waiting on delivery of an auto shifter handle from a vs that a mate has.
Can’t decide if I need to integrate the shifter into a centre console or as a stand alone item like the gear shifter was. a centre unit will give me a spot to put cup holders and the stereo so perhaps I need to…

Posts: 167I copied and pasted from performance forums just to show the types of responses I get from the other forum I mainly use.
This is one of those times where you make bizarre and nonsense decisions.
I don’t expect pf to agree or whatever but it’s happening.
And things have happened.
I’ve had a friend over to discuss wiring options and have come to a conclusion.
The vans stock cluster was cable drive. And aftermarket vdo speedo just wasn’t going to to fit where I wanted it to.
So Im using a vx pcm with vats removed and will run a vr dash cluster so it reads the speed properly and has all the idiot lights I could need. But, it also didn’t fit in the hole the stock cluster came from. And was miles to big to just trim a bit and have it slide in. Which brings us here >
And then today’s efforts bring us to this point here>

Posts: 167Hi, was gonna start a new thread but this topic fits my Q.
when im on mobile, i use what looks like the web version, i dont use tapatalk at all.
but i cant find the notifications button at all, like no subscriptions or anything, no access to my profile at all, as in no button for it, its just the magnifying glass/search button top right. and generic forum list on the left.
i use a sony xperia Z5 android, and use google chrome to access interwebs.
i cant find a logon button either, but i thought i had previously logged on and now am unsure whether i am still.

Ha thanks mate, the agreement was copied from another “less open-minded” forum who very must resist my unusual ideas

Posts: 167So I’ve been struggling with setting up the dash cluster and then integrating the commo bcm and the van.
I made a choice tonight to just remove the dash all together.
I honestly feel overwhelmed with making a circle fit a square hole but yet I feel more comfortable digging a complete mine of a hole to make that circle fit to then rebuild back up to it.
Long story short I’m picturing a tube dash, all guts exposed, on purpose to match the madmax vibe the outside has.
I don’t expect the forum to agree or whatever but it’s happening lol

Posts: 167You can get obd plug in that has a display screen with speedo, temp, oil pressure, faults etc they into socket thing above brake pedal on commodore cost roughly $100 Dunno if obd or obd11 for vx/y. Other good thing can get $50 gps speedo only display size of a phone stick on screen or in front of speedo. (plan to get one if my speedo cant be corrected) More common Heads Up Display but think they’d suck reflecking on windscreen.
HUD actually sounds like a good idea too. might look into that if I can get this sorted.

Posts: 167I picked up a vx cluster thus arv and it’s fairly close to fitting so tonight’s plan is to open it up and see just how much meat I can trim off the sides and see if I can’t squeeze it in.

Posts: 167So I got some more little bits done. feels good.
Got the new bottom pipe in, just needs clamps.
Removed the battery and laid out the drivers side of the wiring and made the choice to run two generic thermo fans rather than modding the stock shroud so wiring there is sorted also.
I started another thread to ask about wiring it up just before.
Should be ordering the tailshaft this week which I’m needing to get out of the way so I have some money to myself again for all the little bits that I need
Hose clamps. zip ties. spark plugs. oils. coolant. pipe. fuel lines. etc the list goes on.

got the heater hoses connected.
welded up a lower radiator hose/pipe and will get fitted tomorrow.
measured up the fans for the commodore, but they dont fit, so will have to purchase a couple fans for the radiator.
attempted to pull the power steering pipe out of the commo pump, but it wouldnt budge so ill wait till i have a decent spanner to have another go at it so i can have a new pressure line made.
assessed the VR dash cluster and its too big. also, the VDO speedo i have is also too big for the vans cluster, so its going to have to be a fully custom dash face with gauges.
had the bay measured up for a new shifter cable to be made and hopefully can source a basic shifter that is smaller than the VX one i have as its also huge…
more tomorrow.

Posts: 167got around to test fitting the VR cluster. and its a fail. too big and no way of fitting it in unless i hack a good inch out of each side of the dash. so no commodore dash in my van.

Posts: 167I thought the same thing tbh. but after talking with people who got theirs cheaper, seems they made do with parts they had already but mine aren’t really serviceable so needs new bits.

Posts: 167Got a quote for the tailshaft today. $700. So I’ll start putting Money towards that over next few weeks.
Dual core radiator arrived today so dropped it in and started looking at cooling lines.
Also fitted the adapter bracket for the B+m shifter cable and replaced the gear selector switch and plugged everything back in down below.
Been pretty lazy today as it’s my only day off work for the week.

Posts: 167What I’m not looking forward to is changing plugs. otherwise most items underneath are quite accessible. oil filter is easy. power steering plumbing should be easy, heater lines should be easy. full access to the transmission, yeh should be ok to work on. still want to pull the plenum and fit all new Valley gaskets and such yet.

Posts: 167Ordered a new dual core radiator. so that’s the first thing I’ll be dealing with.
Cooling system and transmission lines.
After that I’ll get a power steering line made and I’ll get to the tail shaft. after that will be wiring, very much not looking forward to that
