Next task is to wire it up, including the led alternator light which I believe I have to get fancy with some resistors to make that work properly.
after that is doors/speakers and stereo. And then I can tidy up the carpet/flooring and center console trimming and such.
Still a bit to go yet but she’s closer now than she was.

Posts: 167Hi crew. I’ve been away for a while, obviously.
I bought a house, we moved in back in February and it’s been a while getting settled in.I ended up pulling the steel frame dash out and have begun working towards getting it together properly.
Ordered a dash from a local wrecker and they sent me an 01 model which physically fitted but it was so far different from mine I had to bin it and sourced a second one from a 98.
Remounted it and have started working on a new cluster. So here’s some pics for you.I wired up some plugs. Figured it was about time I got proper about this.
Test fitting the new acrylic
Holes all cut.
And mounted.- This reply was modified 5 years, 3 months ago by klampykixx.

Posts: 167That sucks to hear about the fire, happened in my old vr when the power steering pump blew it’s seal. Lit up all over the headers.
Looks mad with the bolt on cowl. Im a big fan of bolt on bits looking like they’re bolted on
I always wanted to put slr flares on my vr and go extra fat.

Posts: 167Yeah ended up just carpeting the whole thing. That said, I like the idea of using stainless hardware, one day I may change out because the yellow wood screws aren’t hugely attractive
Thanks for checking her out, certainly had some side steps throughout the build lol

Posts: 167Ha thankyou, audio has been a hobby/interest since I was about 12 when I got my first little stereo.
Being through speakers after speakers and then music production and also reproduction, DJing and the rest, I know what I wanna hear. Having plenty of experience playing with audio simulation software helps too. Testing, building, evaluating and rebuilding teaches a lot.
I love it.

Posts: 167My mate was telling me that some of the serious competition guys pour concrete in the boot floor to strengthen it all up. Just insane.
That’s definitely commitment right there.
This is still a compromise ultimately, as if I was dedicated to spl I’d set it up as a wall and properly seal it off, I’d run as many 15″ as I could feasibly fit and it would be ridiculous haha
Chrysler “infinity” 5″ coax and fusion PF-FR4020 4″ coax for upper midrange duty.
Can’t decide if I should leave that panel in black woodgrain or carpet it like the rest of the door panel will be.

Posts: 167yeh, my old setup was poewerful enough to get my roof flexing a good inch on certain frequencies.
i do very much plan to reinforce it this go round. along with filling all the unused cavities with expanda foam.
eventually id like the whole back area to be lined with plywood essentially like a big speaker box. and if i didnt use it for other duties, id absolutely set it up as a dedicated sound rig. so the current setup will be as big as it gets, designed to be as compact, but as loud as possible.
when the doors are open, and the tailgate up, it acts like a big sound projector. i love it, cancels out other’s stereos within a 30m radius !!

Posts: 1670-100 at about 9 seconds. I figure that’s pretty decent for an 1850kg van.
https://youtu.be/B_dbhZvGbPY. Read the description.
Injectors arrived today. And I ordered the ALDL USB interface for tuning also.
And started working on the dash today.
Tomorrow is to pull drivers side header off and fix up the weld at number 6 port as it’s still tractoring. While it’s off I’ll be checking fitment of the lukey headers I’m keeping off the other car. If they fit they’re going to become turbo manifolds.

Posts: 167Yeh nothing was mentioned about brakes so since van is rated to carry an extra tonne perhaps the brakes are considered satisfactory.
Also to note, today I purchased a set of L67 injectors and the ALDL interface for tuning. Lookout! Lol

Posts: 167Spoken to the engineer and he’s happy to pass it with a pair of turbos on it as long as it passes emissions.
L67 tune/injectors + L36(normal compression) +8psi twin turbo +4.44:1 diff should be quite entertaining to drive.

Posts: 167the motor itself hits nothing, but youre right, the pipes are “just” resting on the chassis rails which makes for some nasty vibrations. ive got tiny bit more clearancing to do before its freed up completely. (the back of my axe makes a good beating tool)
carpet in the air box, was to tame the induction hiss from the filter. the rest of it will be carpet too so it will all match, just havent got that far with the tidying up yet.
ive always received some weird looks because of how it looks, but ive been getting even more since driving it over past couple weeks. I love it tho, and i forgot just how much attention it demands. especially sitting at lights.
