• ordered my dump pipe, turbo oil fittings, and some exhaust bits.

going to be fitting up the new carb this week so ill be putting up pictures of progress.

  • Haha thanks I think, pending on how this responds to boost I may decide to upsize turbo again but for now I’ll stick with the 8psi actuator and see how she does

  • small update

got my wideband kit, turbo, and surge tank yesterday. its coming together pretty quick. my main holdup from here will be the time it takes for my ebay dump pipe to get here from china. this is it here for those who wanna see it,

    otherwise, heres some pics

  • my mate dropped back my intake and holley carby today, after making me an adapter plate and carb hat.

ill be painting as much of it black as i can in attempt to keep a stealth appearance in the bay, no big shiny pipes or anything obvious.

  • Ordered a 2L surge tank today. Local tuner guy says I can use my stock engine mounted fuel pump to fill the surge tank and feed the 044 from that. Be more reliable as a gravity feed than trying to draw the fuel from the stock lines in tank. Should see the carby swapped over in about two weeks time.

  • Somehow I completely forgot to mention it’s getting turbocharged…

I have a tb25 off a 2.8 diesel patrol and will be running 10psi to start with.  That’s what the 044 pump is for.

Be running a water to air intercooler. And a 3″ turbo back exhaust.

current setup is just a 3″ cold air intake, well insulated and draws air from the side vent only.

  • decided not to do the v6 conversion. a few priorities have changed and focus has returned to my DJ business, needing money to grow.

if all goes to plan, ill be updating the van down the line to a larger one which makes the v6 conversion a slight waste of cash.

  • regarding oil, im contemplating a 15w40 diesel oil like penrite in the emotec seeing as it has the extra detergent additives and higher temp ratings than normal oil.
is that a bad idea or be ok?

  • so basically ill have to make up some sort of container to sit under the turbo and then feed that to an external oil pump.  would it be worth using that pump to push through a filter at all before it goes back to the engine? i saw comments regarding ash/burt oil particles causing issues if reintroduced after the spin on filter.

    mostly asking as…[Read more]

  • ok, thanks for that quick reply :)

im still trying to sort out whether or not im even going to have the budget to do the conversion, let alone the turbocharging….  work has changed, right as i was preparing to start saving and then took my sundays off me which is my main income…. yay me….

  • Hi forum, just doing some googling around low mount turbo setup, like what you would typically see on a porsche where the turbo is at or below sump level, and found something called an oil accumulator drip tank.

could you please learn me on how they work and not just clog up the turbo’s bearings with oil?? is there a pump im not…[Read more]

  • no update really, but put a few kays on the motor since the build and getting a pretty constant 15L/100km consumption, thats combination highway, city, bush and flogging it and being really nice to it.

i cant get it lower, but before the rebuild im sure it was closer to the 10-12/100km.

  • Can buy them for about $60 each  unless they’ve gone up.

After a week of  troubleshooting I finally found two problems that were stopping it running properly.

Leaky egr system was making number 2 and 3 run lean. And exhaust valve on number 3 wasn’t closing. Which I believe had been like that ever since the head was replaced.

  • So weekend just gone my dad and I just tore apart the 4cylinder and put new rings n honed the block but it’s still only running on three cylinders. Ordered a new dizzy cap n rotor and I’ll put some upper engine cleaner thru it this pay n see if it’s any better.

  • nah they went with the car Aj.  Grabbed a few bits from it though,  like my 840cc injectors….. Be interesting to see how much boost I can wind into the van once the forged v6 goes in ey??  Lol

  • Yeh i wish I could have kept it but it was too old for the van and to be legal. It’s a 99model so the 97 vt is just a scrape thru as it applies to the correct adr for emissions.  The VR had no hope Being 94.
