So I got some more little bits done. feels good.

Got the new bottom pipe in,  just needs clamps.

Removed the battery and laid out the drivers side of the wiring and made the choice to run two generic thermo fans rather than modding the stock shroud so wiring there is sorted also.

I started another thread to ask about wiring it up just…[Read more]

  • Hi forum.

Moving along smoothly so far with the conversion  in my van but I have a question  before the headache arises.

Is there anyway I can run an ecotec on just the ecu with a non VATS setup?

I’ve got a complete vx setup with a mid bcm (313) and if I can get around it I’d be super happy.

I’ve got the key head so if I have to I’ll j…[Read more]

    minor update today

    got the heater hoses connected.

welded up a lower radiator hose/pipe and will get fitted tomorrow.

measured up the fans for the commodore, but they dont fit, so will have to purchase a couple fans for the radiator.

attempted to pull the power steering pipe out of the commo pump, but it wouldnt budge so ill wait till i have a…[Read more]

  • got around to test fitting the VR cluster. and its a fail. too big and no way of fitting it in unless i hack a good inch out of each side of the dash. so no commodore dash in my van.

I thought the same thing tbh. but after talking with people who got theirs cheaper, seems they made do with parts they had already but mine aren’t really serviceable so needs new bits.

Got a quote for the tailshaft today. $700. So I’ll start putting Money towards that over next few weeks.

Dual core radiator arrived today so dropped it in and started looking at cooling lines.

Also fitted the adapter bracket for the B+m shifter cable and replaced the gear selector switch and plugged everything back in down below.

    Been pretty…[Read more]

What I’m not looking forward to is changing plugs. otherwise most items underneath are quite accessible.  oil filter is easy. power steering plumbing should be easy, heater lines should be easy. full access to the transmission,  yeh should be ok to work on. still want to pull the plenum and fit all new Valley gaskets and such yet.

Ordered a new dual core radiator.  so that’s the first thing I’ll be dealing with.

    Cooling system and transmission lines.

After that I’ll get a power steering line made and I’ll get to the tail shaft.  after that will be wiring, very much not looking forward to that

Got a fair bit done today.

Motor would have been in yesterday had I known about vx having a rather wide offset to the stock header. sourced a vs one which hugs the block and it now goes in.

First time standing on solid ground for two weeks.

She’s still gonna be a stonker of a build lol, healthy veemoo with 4.44 diff gears and eventually some boost will fairly well off its head ha.

    Just gotta get it together

Yeh we did the same about 12 months ago, rings and hone with block in the bay.

Wasn’t super hard to get out but I wasn’t exactly being careful either. anything holding back got chopped or ripped because no care lol.

Wishing I had unbolted the fan as with it and the clutch attached it was actually slightly too long to clear the opening, and did…[Read more]

    Progress.

Tomorrows plan is to strip out the rest of the engine bay stuff including the radiator and maybe get the v6 mounted in there.

Wednesday is hoping to even get as far as fitting the transmission.  but I don’t wanna get too far ahead of myself.

  • Hopefully getting a vr cluster this week, so first job will be making it physically fit, second is to wire it and make it all work with vx bcm.

I figure the 4L60e ran the same speed sensor so it should talk the same way.

  • klampykixx replied to the topic klampyz van in the forum Non-Commodore Rides 8 years ago

Aiming to have the rest of the engine bay stripped down by end of this Tuesday, unsure on how to treat the new cooling system. but figure if engine goes in I can work out where everything can go after.

Honestly thinking about ducting the stock v6 radiator and mounting it under the front of the engine bay to give me room back in front of the…[Read more]

  • klampykixx replied to the topic klampyz van in the forum Non-Commodore Rides 8 years ago

Not far off the mark stevoss!

Except I’m likely going turbo rather than blower.

Got some nice stainless headers on my eBay watch list, and aiming for a 3″ exhaust.  but I’ve still got the turbo I planned on fitting the four cylinder,  t2871 which in pairs is a nice size for the 3.8… hanging one off each header would sit quite nice in my mi…[Read more]
