Posts: 775Did you have twin mondeo fans? These run 3000 cfm supposedly. I had some smaller twin 10 inch thermos before and they just couldnt keep it cool. Plus i also had a blocked ac condenser in front of the radiator.
They were au v8 falcon fans it was just the way the factory shroud worked with pulling air through with the fans Now that I look at my old aluminium one your one look more like the au setup

Posts: 775Frazer – dont you need an electronic speed sensor on the gearbox so the ECU has a vehicle speed input? That’s what I’ve been told, and also why I need either a digital speedo or one of the x box. Does anyone know if the ECU needs the vehicle speed? would be a lot easier if I could just run with the normal cable setup.
I had the set up on a 308 so no ecu but the vk had 304 and needed the speed signal so it knew when your slowing down not sure if this changes with the ls ecu ,,, but you can get a device that screw to gearbox has two wires for ecu in centre then screw speedo cable I did have this for my t5 worked well but then went to t56 and autometer speedo and you could calibrate the speedo , I think the rod shop did the device but was back in 2001 ,, all depends if you want to keep original dash , one thing I did not mention about the xbox was it seemed the motor was very weak so when you curve the cable the motor had very low torque
the x box is for electric speed sensor (gear box ) to cable driven speedo
you have th400 (I Think) so it’s mechanical and speedo is mechanical
so you just need a device between the gearbox and speedo cable that will send signal to ecu,,, I sold the one I had last year
so just on the speedo side from vn they went to electronic speedo
this is what I mean but not the one I had it gives you an idea
hope that helps

Posts: 775Hey Guys & Gals just an up date on this box for the speedo ,, well not impressed first I could not mount were I wanted it in side the cabin mate and I worked out the speedo cable had to be straight as possible other wise it would bounce a lot so had to put it on the drivers front inner guard , now to calibrate the speedo had to go though a process diff ratio mpr and gear box pulse so got that set the switches but was 20kms out so just changed switches higher until it was kind of right still out but by 5kms and still had hesitations now maybe my dash speedo could of been out in the first place to late to tell now car is sold ,,, so from all that I will not be getting another one for the vh and 6060 mg9 box I will got down the conversion side with malwood so changes the rear housing to a gear driven speedo slip yoke and a direct mount shifter
second pic down

Posts: 775we are lucky here in nz they are really tough on there processes but we can have a big cube turbo s/c etc and drive it on the street don’t have to have certain days or anything and we don’t need emission’s so could put carb 6-71 chevy hemi in a 2015 car and be street legal as long as it passes brake test and all safety features stay

Posts: 775There’s arguments about the weight of the cars as well, some will say it’s based on your exact vehicle model (in my case a VK SL), others say to use the heaviest vehicle variation in your model (in my case probably a Calais) to determine engine sizes. The last set of rego papers for my VK show the weight as 1250kgs so i just scrape in with the LS3.
That seems light when I had my vk I had that corner weighted and was 1430 without me in it full, electrics and v8 ??

Posts: 775Reckon you should give it a go yourself…not hard just very time-consuming if want everything neat & hidden especially drilling holes & harness placement. Vk wiring loom are messy & retarded compared to vb-h looms. Fuse rail part that melts mostly to do with headlights could probably get away with unpinning it & using aftermarket fuesbox if wiring not melted or just trim them.
I hear you the first one I did was a vk royal so had every thing elec windows ,mirrors, A/c

Posts: 775Sparky came round, quoted 4.5k to rewire the whole car front to back using all new wiring, fuses, relays, connectors etc. as well as hiding most of the wiring. Said it’s about 1k in parts and the rest is labour, and takes around 40 hours to do. anyone had any similar work done so i can compare the price? stupid cars lol
wow had a small heart attack on that price , I have done two cars now plus wire up the 304 took time and had to find the manuals had a auto sparky let me borrow the right book , you could find a loom from another vk intact and put that in get all things working then you can sort through it length and shorten what you need to do then once you have that set up get the guy back to just hook up ecu loom to car loom

Posts: 775Depending what box u use. You man be able to retain the clutch. Will would be a massive bonus. As it’s a twin plate. But then u gotta weigh up the cost difference.
sorry for the high jak of your build
going to use the 6060 MG9 the proper lsa box
I have cost it out so this is in nz dollars 13,000.00 no reserve -13,700.00 buy now for auto motor, manual motor from aus shipped to nz plus exchange and gst ect 15,800.00 , to get clutch and flywheel to suite twin plate 1300.00 , so I think considering it already here all so come with red cover and ultimate wiring , but that will be for auto I assume

No difference. But if you can get manual it works out better as you can sell the clutch etc you have to change the auto flex plate.
