Posts: 535The Swiss have banned all Euro 5 spec VW group cars that have either not been sold or registered yet.
It would seem that the authorities were aware that this was happening mid 2000’s……
if vw go down for this I will be pissed.. They make awesome cars and now that the commy is dead are one of the few manufacturers that have a line up we want to own in our house hold.. if VW do this imagine what those crap house China cars do?! I’ve heard reports great wall cars have decapitated test dummies with air bags in independent tests.!
I’m in the same boat, post Commodore I was starting to look at the European brands as I won’t be caught dead in anything of Chinese origin.
The thing is, this seems to apply to Euro 5 spec cars, the Euro 6 stuff is fine. Not that I’d be looking at diesel anyway, it’s just no me.

Posts: 535The guys on the PCMhacking forum have custom code that will drive a later model dash with early model PCM however it only has limited functionality due to limits of the early model PCM’s.
From my limited understanding, from VT onwards the BCM is the bus master and the PCM is a slave so you would possibly require a functioning BCM to make it all work.

Posts: 535The problem is the way the dash is driven, to use a late model dash you would basically need to upgrade the PCM and associated bits and pieces because from VT onward the dash is driven by the PCM via the can-bus. Also depending on the model the data/communications protocols change as well so it gets fairly technical.
The guy to speak to would be Tazzi as he’s right into dash upgrades. He can be contacted on the PCMHacking forum or Just Commodores. He’ll be able to give specifics of what is required for the various model dash’s.

Posts: 535If the vehicles can pass the test then it would suggest that they could also be compliant when on the road with the correct tune adjustments…. obviously this will come at a cost of power/torque and economy which diesels are sold on.
Either way, VW is going to pay and pay and pay and pay and then probably pay some more.
I haven’t looked into it thoroughly but it would seem that the Euro and American tests differ somewhat. What ever happens, I’m sure more details will emerge in the coming days/months.
I believe the California smog test is the toughest in the world. We here in NZ do wof tests yearly, In the US and in particular California I believe they have to do smog test every couple of years, they care more about what comes out of the tail pipe than the condition of the rest of the car. For every vehicle to have to do a smog test it would require a testing facility where a large number of tests can be performed in a short period of time and a rolling road system would be the easiest way to do this. just imagine if they had to fit every car with test equipment and then go for a cruise……

Posts: 535Hmmmm, lower back pain used to be my best friend. Still comes back to reminisce once in a while.
If it’s as bad as it sounds it would mean getting the disk removed and the 2 vertebrae fused. Going to be a while before driving anything in anger larger then a vitz.

Posts: 535For IRS I put the stands under the rear subframe chassis mounts.
I have issues jacking up the front of the Senator too. Fortunately my driveway drops down beside the house so I park the Senator with those nose over where it starts to angle down which gives me just enough room to be able to jack it up. I am planning on getting some of these though to make it easier everywhere else.

Posts: 535I think it was Street Machine mag that did something similar for some ute they made that was running on 20 or 22 inch rims on the back, they basically ended up fabricating completely new tubular arms welded to the original cast hub assembly. It was sitting really low and was tubbed as well I believe.

Posts: 535Somewhere towards the end of the production cycle Holden altered the mounting points as well as altering the angle of the bush mount in the swing arm to improve the geometry as the wheel moves through it’s range of motion. No idea though at exactly what model these changes were introduced.

Posts: 535I don’t know, I always thought there were plenty of idiot on the SC forum as well.
TBH, that forum had been struggling for years, I had an issue with my login when I first joined, tried for months to get it fixed but no mod or admin did anything. Eventually managed to get it sorted but no help from the people who ran it.
In the later years my browser would also regularly warn of potential malware issues with the site so I just stayed away to be safe.

Posts: 535You still only have a single camshaft?
So, effectively when you alter the cam timing it doesn’t only effect IVC (to control dynamic comp) but it also effects IVO, EVO and EVC events.
