Surprised to hear about that bearings, scored or hammered? When you’re guy says 100% tuning it sounds like they have been hammered from det which really sucks. Probably a good thing you pulled it when you did.

Really need to check it at the top of the bore without rings fitted or better yet measure the bore and the piston at a specific point as they won’t be round when cold and calculate actual clearance.
Blown gaskets like that I would suggest was probably a tuning issue. Bugger ehh
How do the bores look?

Solid roller is a lot more maintenance and costs and not really that street friendly.

If it’s only stuffed rings because they didn’t bed in properly a quick hone and new decent quality rings should solve the problem and be relatively cheap.
I believe the LS7 style heads used on the LSx454 are also decent so a bit of a touch up, sort out the CR and a bit more cam to wake it up and your laughing hopefully without having to spend a fortune.

Depending on the pistons that are in there you may be able to just have them fly cut rather than replacing. Really depends on what you are starting with.

Wow, I know the original LS engines are renowned for heavy breathing but I would not have thought it for a LSx build.
Never mind, bigger and better on the rebuild.

Immortality replied to the topic Vr vs v8 alternator??? in the forum Car Audio & Electrics 7 years, 3 months ago
If you want to check the resting voltage of the battery you would need to check it a fair while after shutting down the car as it takes some time for the battery to settle from the higher charging voltage.
Get at least the next size up from the cable you have now. The V6 Commodores were notorious for frying the charge cables because of the h…[Read more]

No danger, the alternator will only put out what is required. The only real danger is having a really grunty alternator but not upgrading the main charge cable as this will limit the current draw and cause the cable to run really hot.
Unfortunately the standard type multimeter isn’t capable of measuring the type of current your the alterator can put out.

Gotta be happy with it though

I stopped hosting files on puke bucket years ago, I use a couple of forums to host my pics that allow users to upload and then hotlink from them to other forums if/when needed.
Been a donating member on the JC forum gives the user extra privileges which include a increased upload limit, I also tend to crop photos so that I’m not uploading >1mb…[Read more]
