Posts: 585I used one cause i wanted to keep everything as simple and close to factory as possible. My reg is mounted right in front of the tank so I only have a short supply and return line from the tank to the reg, then a single 3/8 line to the rail. Unless you’re running big power or turbo/blower, the factory style fuel setup is fine/ The regs are relatively cheap and readily available in case of a faulty one or to replace them periodically. Not much point of a fuel pressure gauge on a stock engine either really. The regs are set to the correct pressure, your tuner will know if there is a fuel pressure issue during tuning. Less parts mean less potential issues or time spent troubleshooting. Your budget will also determine what way to go, you can spend at least double to do the whole engine bay mounted reg, feed and return line, pressure gauge etc.

Posts: 585yes on the under lay get felt if you can or use original
or maybe dynamat?
Dynamat might work to help with exhaust heat in the front. I’ll have a look into it

Posts: 585No idea, they probably do, I went with them as a lot of the local trimmers use them when doing the usual VK and VL Brock interiors
Just had a thought, do I need to use underlay? or can I just lay the carpet over the bare floor?

Posts: 585Hey mate is it worth letting Jenvey know what happened? I’m sure you aren’t the only one with that type of manifold and what happened is something they should address with their design

Posts: 585Post the vid to YouTube then link to here. That’s what I do .There’s a really simple hack to download any vid off Facebook off your PC. Just change the http bit to m, Google is your friend 😀
I’ll have a poke around and see what i can do.
I saw the video dam it sounds nice
Cheers mate, yep it’s got a nice note to it.
Finally had a great weekend with the VK. Picked it up saturday morning, chatted to the tuner who said everything is perfect. Ran great on the dyno, A/F was dead flat all the way hovering on 12.5, motor pulled all the way to 6400. Unloaded it from the trailer and went for a little squirt up the road, it’s heaps toey down low, torque is awesome, has a nice quiet note at idle but opens up when you give it a bit. Also did a small skid in the garage haha.
Dyno sheet reads 239.9rwkw and 1261NM.
Started on the bodywork on Saturday and continued yesterday. Wet sanded the roof, C pillars, both rear guards and the boot. All the marks and crap that was on it are gone, all the peel from painting it in the garage at home in winter is gone and it’s silky smooth ready for buffing. Next is the doors and front guards, bolt the guards on, check over the bumpers and probably give them another few coats of clear before they go on.

Posts: 585time and funds are running out at a very fast rate…
Said every builder of car like this towards the end!!
Hahaha yeah true mate.
There’s a dyno video up on Facebook. Search for DC Tuning & Mechanical, they’re based at Wyong on the Central Coast. They just put the dyno vid up.

Posts: 585Finally all done. The fuel issue was the hose on the hanger that runs from the pump to the hardline on the hanger, it was leaking, the hose had started to deteriorate for some reason. The hose was replaced and it was all good. Ended up making 320rwhp, lower than I thought but the tuner said the high stall and TH400 suck more power out of them, said it’s making up around the 450 mark at the fly. A/F ratio was dead flat, it’s running perfectly. Everything else is fine, they went over the whole car and mechanically it’s ready to hit the road. Now I need to find some extra cash to pay for the extra work the had to do haha

Posts: 585Thanks guys, yeah i’m hoping its something simple. Keen to get it back and start putting it back together. Spent the weekend working on the bonnet, more sanding and primer, sanding and primer, sanding and primer. Feel like I’m polishing a turd, but it’s slowly getting better. Definitely will be on the hunt for a new bonnet next year.

Posts: 585So there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that the car is running perfectly on the dyno up to 4 grand, everything is spot on, oil pressure, temp, no funny noises. Bad news is that it’s running out of fuel when it revs over 4 grand. Seems to be a fuel supply issue, either there is a pinch in the fuel line somewhere, the pump intake is partially blocked, or I have mounted the pump too far down on the hanger and it’s too close to the bottom of the tank. The tuner is going to pull the pump out and have a look. The saga continues.

Posts: 585Spoke to the tuner, they have one car they;re finishing off on the dyno then mine is going on. They have relocated the trans cooler lines, fingers crossed there is nothing left to do.
Any guesses on what it’ll make? I’ve seen VFII LS3 autos make around the 370-380 mark with similar mods (intake, full exhaust and tune), mine is through a TH400 with 3800-4000 stall, I think around the 350 mark would be in the region

Posts: 585Sounds like it needed a few heat shrinks before the filler, if it oil cans and flexes the filler won’t last..
It probably needed someone who knows what they’re doing hahaha. I’ll see how it goes, I just want to get it together and looking somewhat decent for my kids formal in December. After that I can plan some more longer lasting work.

Posts: 585Worth getting a better bonnet ?
Probably. I’m running out of time to get the car ready, I already have the paint and the bonnet was only 100 bucks so I’ll see how it turns out for the time being. I’ll use it as a bit of a learning curve on body work. I still like reverse cowls so I might get one of the Group 3 style ones next year, that might help disguise some of the problems.

Posts: 585Stripped the bonnet on the weekend. There has been some work on it previously, there was a fair bit of bog on the top, there are two spots either side of the centre that droop a little, i can push the sheet up from underneath but it wont stay, it drops back down. Took it all back to metal and used some filler to smooth out a few small dents, using the correct amount of hardener is a battle, the first batch was a fk up and cured way too quickly, the next two werent too bad. Smoothed it out as much as I could, sanded it down, gave it a clean and covered it in etch primer. Doesnt look the best at the moment, can still see heaps of fine scratches, just gonna take my time and give it a rub back and hit it with some hi fill primer, and repeat until it’s as smooth as I can get it.

Posts: 585I still can’t work out what the meaning for all this is? Can you enlighten me?
Might be trying to keep it under the bonnet without having to use a cowl.

Posts: 585Worth maybe getting it all media blasted?
i was looking into that but it can warp panels if it isn’t done properly. I had a look at the bonnet today. The paint underneath is in pretty good nick considering it’s age. Still has shine to it. A few rust spots here and there. I’ll clean the rust spots off and cover with etch primer, rough up the rest and it should be fine to paint. Going to take the top back to metal cause it’s heaps weathered and cracked. Bought some paint stripper, etch primer and build primer today, going to give it a crack this weekend.
also bought a can of cerulean spray paint off eBay to coat the dash and centre console.
