Thanks Cav and Gary. There are positives for a return system undoubtedly, but I’ll stick with the factory style setup for now. If I go for a blower/turbo/striker/unicorn fart injection, I’ll upgrade it then. Should just need to run a bigger line and use the one I’ll run now as the return.

Anyone done their own brake lines? This kit off eBay looks alright, comes with bender, flaring kit and pipe cuter: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10-Pcs-Brake-Air-Line-Double-Flaring-Tool-Kit-w-3-in-1-Tube-Bender-Tube-Cutter-/322202113756?hash=item4b04be16dc:g:BwoAAOSwSv1Xk18f 25ft of line is only $40 as well

this kit is on its way. Gonna try and swing past Supercheap and get another set of car stands to get the rear end up and start sussing out the fuel tank and lines. Off to the wreckers in the morning to pick up some more parts.

^ might be a VT tank? They are rectangular and mounted down the back by the fuel tank I think?

Yep you’re right. Just had a quick squiz on eBay, they have a nice compact shape to mount at the back near the tank.

Thanks Gary, I’m open to all suggestions and advice, so please continue adding your two cents worth! I’ll stick with the single line as the CAE kit comes with a regulator/filter setup that’s mounted near the tank, nice and simple.

Just run a new 1/2 feedline with the returnless reg. Then use the existing hardline as the line for the charcoal canister. That’s what I plan on doing.

There’s an idea. There are three hardlines running from the bay to to the rear, I assume one is the old fuel line and one is the brake line but I don’t know what the third one is for. Gotta get another pair of car stands to get the back end up to have a poke around underneath

There is a reason people run a return line system…

Such as…. Not going FI or stroker at the moment so the factory setup (VE/VF returnless system) should be ok for now. Can always add a return line down the track when the mods start up again.

Thanks Dave, description and pics are great. I’ll more than likely do something similar, just without the return line. Will also need to sort out the charcoal canister, do you have any pics of that?

I’ll have a chat to my mate who’s helping me with the build over the weekend and see if the kit is worth getting. It’s not all that pricey, and I’ll need the bender and cutter anyway. If the flare tool doesn’t work properly, I’ll get the flares done elsewhere

I wasnt happy with the flare on that style of kit, but I was lucky as my uncle had a pro style one I was able to borrow. Having said that if your doing it in mild steel, should be good. Have heard some engineers are particular about the flares though (mine wasn’t), might be worth checking?

The guy I spoke to at Hoppers said it’d be easy to do in mild steel, but it was a prick to get right with stainless.

Build a car they said…. It’ll be fun they said….. hahaha

I have, every one in the car front to back and moving the ABS. Make sure its a double flare tool not a single flare. I did mine in stainless tube which is harder to work with, regular mild steel is easy as. I actually really enjoyed doing it, its nice and simple to do, and comes up really nice once its done.

Yep the one in the link is a double flair kit. Should also help run a new fuel line as well.

Hubs are on their way, comes with seals and bearings. Final price was $390

Glad to hear mate, might be also worth speaking to them about what sort of stuff engineers require in this stuff

I’ve been speaking with an engineer in Newcastle about the build. He said VT brake upgrade will be fine with an LS3 and wont need a brake test.

I do need to get new hard lines for the front though. Probably the rear as well knowing my luck.

Hopper Stoppers are pretty good to deal with.

Just spoke to them and ordered a pair of hub adaptors. They said if they don’t have them on the shelf it’ll take a week to get made which is fine.

    eBay cheapies: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Holden-Commodore-VT-Adapter-Brake-Hubs-for-VB-VC-VH-VK-VL-VN-VP-Conversion-PAIR-/282436216163?hash=item41c282a563:g:86wAAOSwo4pYipJ6

That place has some shocking feedback wouldnt touch them. Holmart are rude to deal with but their products are sound

Called Holmart, they only have one hub left and wont be getting any more for at least a couple of months. Hoppers Stoppers have some in stock, anyone had any dealings with them? Their ones are $360 for a pair, including bearings

Early Commodores need the hub adapters if you’re doing a VT brake upgrade cause the discs are different.

    ^^^^right you are Gary.

Need to get hub adaptors to do the brake upgrade. Not many options to choose from, eBay has a pair for $195 but they look like generic, probably chinese made ones. Holmart have them for $340 a pair, but they look like better quality. Any suggestions?

Got a bunch of parts ready to pick up from the wreckers. Sent the loom and computer off today. Gonna try and get the bay ready this weekend to paint the following weekend.

Yep, I have run totally new lines front to back. I went hard lines from the tank to the rear of the tunnel, then used braid with P clips across over the top of the transmission tunnel to bring the them up on the passenger side where there is more room. Will see if I can dig up some pics if you want?

Keen to see the pics, I was going to do the same to mine
