Dunno. Not sure if they’re squished for clearance around the steering shaft. Will ring them tomorrow and ask.

the pic makes it look worse than what it is

    Your progress makes me sick

hahaha I was the same, I’d done basically nothing for 2 and a half years but it’s been full steam ahead for the last month or two.

Bit more done over the weekend. Removed the battery tray and cleaned up underneath, went over the whole bay with a wire wheel and got rid of all the surface rust spots. Ended up taking the top part where the bonnet latches back to bare metal. The drivers side rail must of had brake fluid on it as the paint had started to bubble and crack so I took that back to metal as well. Put three coats of primer on last night, was trying to get the top coat done but my mate who’s spraying it was tied up with his missus so only got the primer done. He knows his stuff, got the primer on perfectly with bugger all light. Just getting the primer on has really transformed the bay, looks a lot neater, can’t wait to get the white on.

The metal below the battery tray isn’t the best and needs to be cut out and replaced, but there was only a couple of holes and will be covered by a box for the air filter so it wont be seen. Main point of this was just to change the colour to match the body, I’m not going for a smoothed bay.

Thanks Gary, I thought it might of been something like that. So basically cut the leaver off flush, and use a small L bracket to bring it across, and weld it all back on. I’ll wait till I’m at that point of mounting the shifter to see what I’ll do, I have a few minor things to do between now and then, haha.

I’ll grab a drop box for it, always wanted the shifter to look as factory as possible. Any links to the lockout mod? I had a look at Slow355’s thread but need a bit more detail.

CAE called this arvo, they’ve got everything ready except the loom, apparently with my harness there’s a couple of extra plugs that they’re waiting for and could be up to a month till it’s ready which isn’t an issue for me. They’re going to send the other stuff tomorrow so I can tinker with that first.

What support did you use? Any idea how much lower you can go before there are issues fitting the bumper back on?

Yeah if I lower it I’ll need to cut a bit out of the drivers side to clear the outlet. Haven’t opened the thermo so not sure how the clearance will be on that.

In other news, the hubs from hoppers stoppers arrived today. Also got notification that the flaring kit and shifter are on their way.

Did a little more today. Pulled the rest of the wiring out of the bay, pulled the last bit of the steering shaft off, gave the bay a clean out cause it had dust and crap everywhere. Finally removed the crash pad, and cut out a heap of wiring from the old alarm that was running all over the place. Bought another pair of stands and got the rear end up and the wheels off.

Had a good look over the parts I picked up yesterday. Need to get new discs as the ones I got are a bit rusty, and I’m not sure if it’s worth machining them seeing as new discs are about 150 for a pair. Radiator doesn’t fit right, the pins on the bottom are too wide, and the whole thing seems to sit too high, and I’m not sure if the bonnet will close. I’ll put a pic up later. Was thinking about cutting off the brackets and getting some alloy L brackets to drop it down about an inch and a half

I’ve read that the early Commodores need mods to fit the VT booster, but the VS ones bolt straight up. Just need to cut the head off the screw in the booster pushrod so the master cylinder sits flush, or buy a spacer

Everywhere I’ve read has mentioned VS booster and VT master cylinder cause the VT one is larger and is needed with the twin piston calipers. Doesn’t the booster just give a softer pedal as it helps push the piston with vacuum from the engine?

Picked up a heap of parts today. Got a new alloy radiator and thermo, full set of VT brakes (front and rear), VS booster and master cylinder, VT master cylinder, and a VS fuel tank. I don’t think I’ll need the rear brakes, and the front discs are a bit rusty so I might just get some new discs. The VK came with a new VT master cylinder and the original, so I now have 4 master cylinders and only need one.

my mate is lined up next weekend to paint the bay, gonna try and get some work done on it tomorrow to get it prepped.
