Posts: 585I’m hoping i can broom broom for real by Christmas, even if it’s just in the garage haha.
Done some more research on completing the driveline. So far I’m looking at a BW diff from Geelong Differentials with True Track, 31 spline axles, etc. plus new lower control arms, adjustable upper control arms from McDonald Bros, and a new tail shaft from Gibson Driveshafts, for the grand total of $4765.
Suggestions on a diff ratio? I was looking at 3.9’s

And yes I sat on the milk crate making broom broom noises whilst trying out the shifter haha.
Going to get a can of cerulean paint and redo all the dash/console plastics before it gets installed for the final time.

Posts: 585Progress on the weekend. Got the dash in, console in, drop box and mounted the shifter. Was fiddly but got there in the end. Had to grind down the side of the shifter cable bracket that bolts to the gearbox pan for the holes to line up. Will put some pics up soon

Posts: 585Modified the factory fuel pump holder and mounted the Walbro 460. Also started putting the dash back in, got the heater and air con boxes back in, hopefully get the rest of the dash back in and the fuel tank mounted next weekend. Then it’s just installing the shifter and the headlights and it’s off to the sparky.

Posts: 585Did a little work on it today. The sparky wants some bits and pieces put back on so he can run wiring and check what space he has to work with. Also went and had a look at some wheels. At the moment I like the Pro Drag rims, 17×6.5 front and 16×9 rears. Can get a set with Mickey Thompson tyres for 2800. Can get them with cheaper tyres but I won’t be able to get a fat chunky rear to get the pro street style. Still like the Momo Star 20s though. I don’t think my budget will stretch to new wheels at the moment. Got around 10k to play with, so far it’ll be about 8k for the wiring and a diff, but there’s a heap of small fiddly bits to do, and I want to be able to at least start it and have it move under its own power with this round of work.

Posts: 585Cheers Cava. On a side note, what type of intake are you going to use? I need an enclosed one for engineering and was looking at the Mace LS conversion airboxes, they look alright:

Posts: 585Ordered a shifter drop box today. Anyone have tips on mounting the shifter and best way to line it up so it sticks out of the factory shifter position? Do I just sit the console in place, get the shifter in the right spot, mark and drill holes and use some nutserts so it’s easy to bolt down? Pop rivets for the drop box to trans tunnel?

Posts: 585I could get something second hand but I have no idea what to look for and I’d rather spend a little more and get a new one.
That the way I think too, do it once, do it right, set and forget
Exactly. I’ve spent a bomb on the motor and trans so I’d be silly to skimp on the diff. At least I’ll know the entire drive line is quality gear and built properly.
Also starting to look at some wheel options. I’m keen on going for a pro-street look, but I do like the 20 inch Momo Stars as well

Posts: 585Spent the day calling a heap of shops. A few were either busy or havent called back yet. Best price so far was $2800 for a BW, 31 spline, true track, that was from Diff King but the dude was asian and i could hardly understand him. Next best was Geelong Diffs, Andrew quoted $3400 delivered for a BW, 31 spline, true track and brake lines. He’s leading so far, I could get something second hand but I have no idea what to look for and I’d rather spend a little more and get a new one.

Posts: 585Been a while chaps, not much done this year cause I bought three dirt bikes for me and the kids and have been busy riding and with the kids soccer. But I finally have some updates. I’ve booked the car in to get a full rewire from front to back. Been quoted around $4.5k all up. Also going to get a diff built. I’ve been leaning towards a Borg Warner, been quoted $3800 for one with a Harrop true tack, my choice of ratio, and 31 spline axles. Looked at going 9 inch but that’ll be around $5k. Open to some advice and recommendations from you blokes

Posts: 585That’s what I’m trying to find out Michael, they have lots of potential but I don’t want to outlay cash for the dash only to find out I have to spend the same amount on wiring and sensors to get it to work properly.
Judge – definitley looking into getting the dash modified, also found out that Dakota Digital make a electronic speed sensor that you can connect a speedo cable to so you get both types of speed input:
Dunno if that will work though

Posts: 585Thanks Cav. I might get the factory dash modified for the time being, that’ll probably be the cheapest option.

Posts: 585Its out of the car my engine came from which was a 2016 VF S2 Redline, I assume the ECU is the same or only a little older, depending how far in advance GM made them.
My idea behind that dash is that it shows all info needed for rego (not sure if that dash is actually legal, but lets assume it is for the sake of the discussion). At the moment i have a mechanical speedo but i need an electic speed input for the ECU. the conversion kit came with a Dakota Digital electric speed sender that wires into the ECU, but i cant run a speedo cable. Another option is to either get my dash converted to electric speedo, or get an x-box mechanical speedo cable drive thingy, I think both options are around 500-600 bucks. i also need something that displays what gear in in as i want to fit my Stealth ratchet shifter in the factory console so it looks stock, similar to a few of the guys on here. My engine harness has wiring for engine temp, oil temp etc. so i was hoping i could run the dash solely from the OBD plug without having to fork out for additional wiring and sensors. Dont want to spend the money on the dash and find out it’ll cost twice as much to get it to work.
I love the idea of keeping the factory dash so the interior looks stock, but i also like the look of the Racepak dash, so i’m in two minds. Cost is also a factor, my pockets arent that deep
