Still no diff. Still waiting for the gear set. Have finished a pergola and spent the weekend staining it with my kids help. Was a fun adventure, I was surprised at how much my kids actually done.

Have some good news though, I’m dropping the VK off to the sparky this Saturday to get the wiring done. He’s done LS into first gen conversions before, do any of you guys have some questions I should be asking or requests about the setup I should talk to him about?

No diff yet. Called the shop and they said they’re waiting on the gear set. Who knows why they told me it was being sent last week, oh well.

Diff is another week away, they’re waiting on some parts apparently. Fine with me cause I’ll be busy with my daughters 4th birthday party this Sat and my twin boys 11th birthday party the following Sat. Plus trying to build a pergola for the missus that was meant to be done before I started working on the VK again. Whoops.

Will I need them boxed with the level of power I’ll have? I’ve read mixed opinions on when to get them boxed.

I’ve found a set of King springs and Monroe GT shocks on eBay for $650, any height I want. I think some coil overs need some mods to fit, or you can buy ones ready to bolt straight in, but they’re well over a grand.

I’m using the factory lower arms, only the uppers are the adjustable ones.

Whats a Salisbury 10 bolt with 3.55 and LSD going for nowadays… hopefully enough to get some new springs and shocks

Diff has been ordered. Borg Warner with Harrop True Track, 3.9’s, 31 spline billet axles, new standard lower control arms and adjustable uppers from McDonald Bros. Should be ready around middle of next week.

I think I’ll just go standard length, that’s the safest option. I had another look, there’s enough room to drop it down about 40mm and tuck the tyre without it rubbing.

kinda looks a bit fatter having the face of the wheels sitting out a bit

Na gonna order one through Geelong Diffs. They’re way cheaper than anyone local to me including postage. Gonna pull the old on out and put the new one in with a mate of mine.

Not doing tubs. Staying basically standard lower arms and adjustable uppers to make sure the pinion angle is right. The wheels seem to fit pretty good on the back and there’s room under the guards to go lower with a standard length diff, but now you’ve got me thinking about getting one narrowed a little to get a bit more room

Speaking of diffs, I need to work out what length to get. there’s a little bit of room on the inside, how much shorter should i go? 50mm each side?

Thanks Chris, I’ve had my eye on them for a while.

Got a set of these on Saturday:

They fit well, plenty of clearance between the struts and guards. Tyres are 235/30/20. First time it’s been off the stands since the motor went in last year, doesn’t sit too bad but I want to drop it a little more at the rear to tuck some tyre and have the top of the guard about level with the top of the rim. Felt weird when it was on the ground, everything is so low to work on haha.

It’s ready for wiring apart from the radiator. Called the sparky and he cant get it in until mid-November, so I’ll get the diff ordered and installed, then get the tailshaft measured and built.

I’m starting to lean towards some 3.7s. Also, a local wheel shop has a set of 20 inch stars for $2090 with tyres, sale is on this weekend. Very tempting.

I tried one of those online RPM calculators and it said it’d be doing 3600rpm sitting on 100kmh. Wouldnt that be a little high? i havent driven a car with short gearing so i’m not sure what it’s like.

Punchy acceleration but not revving its tits off on the highway. I thought 3.9 would be a happy medium, 4.11s may be a little high
