NZ may be different, but most engineers in Aus, especially the one I’ve been speaking with, prefer using factory parts where possible, cuts down on the amount of testing involved with certification.

Ordered a tail shaft today from Gibson Driveshafts near Newcastle. Should be ready next week. Hopefully throw it in over the weekend, and that’ll complete the driveline.

Anyone have some suggestions on how to mount the trans cooler, and where to run the lines?

Thanks Renno. No plans to paint underneath, just looking at getting it finished and on the road.

Thanks guys. Was an awesome weekend, really satisfying seeing the wiring done and swapping the diffs, couple of big ticket items checked off the list.

boxed lowers will be on the next round of mods when it’s on the road

Sold all the old stuff 20 minutes after advertising it on Facebook, only have to add 80 bucks for a new tail shaft, happy days

All the new gear is in, diff, upper and lower arms, springs, shocks, panhard bar. Sits only a tiny bit lower than the old springs, but they’ll probably drop a bit more once they settle.

Picked it up this morning, pretty good job. ECU is mounted high up behind the passenger kick panel, air con box is gone and replaced with a custom duct, fuse box for the motor and stuff is mounted underneath the duct, the other fuse box with the rest of the normal VK stuff is on the right hand side of the steering wheel under the dash behind the small panel, he replaced the wiring and relays for the thermo and fuel pump with a heavier duty setup, wired up a central locking kit, plus other bits and pieces I can’t remember.

got it home and straight into it. Got the whole rear end out, diff, suspension, upper and lower control arms. Pulled the brake lines and callipers off the diff. Took the cover off and the centre looks perfect. Anyone know what a 10 bolt Salisbury with 3.55 LSD centre is worth?

I’ll throw some pics up on Monday.

So a week ends work then

haha yeah pretty much. Gonna try and pull the diff out over the weekend, need to sell it to get some spare coin to spend on more stuff, the missus isn’t too impressed with how much the wiring cost so have to keep a low profile haha

Mate that drive train in a lighter body should be next level. What a great build I am sure this will be. Guess you are right too, be nice for the old Lexcans thread to finish as it sits now.

The last post should just be a pic of it at it’s best, in action on a circuit, then thread closed  :good:

Nice so whats it need now? Its going to be seriously fast with a ls3 in it.

I’ve got to swap the rear end out, measure and order a tail shaft, run brake lines, mount the calipers, new discs and pads, run a fuel line, remove, clean and paint the tank, mount the regulator, mount the trans cooler and run the lines, mount the radiator and thermo, get a battery, get a washer bottle, get an overflow tank, airbox and intake pipe (probably a Mace setup), plus more little things along the way that i cant think of right now haha. Should be turn key from a wiring perspective though, once i do the trans cooler, fuel tank and line, and radiator, i should be able to start it in the garage and annoy the neighbours.

It should get up and boogy, 3.9 gears and a 4k stall, will be pretty tail happy when i give it a bootfull

Thanks lads. I’ll give it a hose out and use water while I’m getting it up and running, once it’s running properly I’ll swap it out for coolant. The inlet, outlet and heater pipes have been taped up so it shouldn’t be too bad inside.

Anyone know if it’s worth flushing out the cooling system before or during the start up? I have a new radiator going in but obviously the motor has been sitting for a while without any coolant, would there be any rust build up in the block that I should try to get rid of before it circulates through everything? I have no idea if there are corrosion problems with alloy blocks… or just stick a hose up it’s clacker to give it a flush out before I put the coolant in
