I had the same mindset and was going to concentrate on getting my VK on the road first and do the cosmetic stuff later but the more I looked into things it was easier to do it now as the car was already in pieces, plus I could do it on the cheap.

Ah ok. A mate who’s helping me put the motor and box in and do the wiring has a detailing business and he’s looking after that part once I’ve done the prep work.

Turned out better than I thought, there were a couple of runs after the first coat and my mate who was spraying was spewing, but each coat after the first went on better and better and the runs blended it, once it was done it looked great. Got the front a rear windows out without breaking them so that’s a win right there haha. Did some masking last night, the paint shop closed early yesterday so hopefully they’re open today otherwise my plans might turn to crap

Still gonna get it done. It’s the only time my mate is free for three days in a row to get stuck into it. Got some heat lamps to put up and full body suits and masks, as well as plenty of beer

On a side note, what type of intake are you using? I’m putting and LS3 into a VK and need to sort out the intake for engineering as it needs to be enclosed.

It shouldnt really matter if it runs the maf or if it is mafless, the newer LS motor mafs arent as restrictive as the old LS1 was. Definitely all in the tune, either speak to the original tuner and explain what is happening or go to a new tuner. Valve springs should of been changed when the cam was done. I’d suggest getting the tune looked at, get the tuner to spend some time tuning across the whole rev range, not just up top. Cam specs sound like a mid sized cam and should go pretty good in a L98, but it’s all in the tune.

All set to spray it this weekend. Didn’t get the cowl mounted, only had a few hours on it but managed to get the bonnet sanded back and the majority of the rust spots removed.

Car will be painted over the long weekend next week. Going to try and get the cowl mounted this weekend, bogged and primed. Going to do inside the door jams, but not going to pull the doors off.

Hopefully it’ll be ok, the previous owner pulled the screens out and fixed up the channels before it was painted
