Gave the tank a bit of a clean up with some degreaser, might throw a bit of paint on it before it goes back in.

Productive weekend, mounted the radiator overflow tank, ran hoses for the tank and the steam port, finished off the trans cooler hoses and installed them with some heatproof sleeve where it runs near the headers, fixed up the fuel pump hanger and stuck it back in the tank with a new gasket, plugged the old dipstick hole in the block. Thanks Ian, seeing as the engine has no oil, should I fill the filter separately before installing? Would that help with getting the oil pressure up quickly for the first start?

Quick question, should I base the amount of oil I put in on an LS1 seeing as i have a VT/VX sump? VF LS3 oil capacity is around 8 litres but they have a full length sump, the LS1’s take about 5 litres. Or just keep adding oil until the dipstick shows it’s full?

I hope so, stock motor should be around the 450hp mark at the fly, should get it moving. It’d be nice to have around 750hp though, like a certain VR Senator haha

Yeah spoke to a different engineer to the one I spoke with last year, just wanted to check on what the latest requirements are so I dont waste cash on the wrong parts.

He also said it’s around the $1k mark, depending how long it takes for the inspection and paperwork, so I’ll be trying to get it micky mouse before it gets looked at.

Ordered some more stuff from a wreckers, got a MAF, VT charcoal canister and two front o2 sensors. Probably should get new o2 sensors, but they’re over $200 for new ones, and the wreckers had a par for $34 so I’ll throw them in and see what happens.

Spot on Gary…. my twin boys have given me an ultimatum to get it on the road for their year 6 farewell in December so I’ll be giving it a solid crack.

Getting back into it again. Ordered some stuff today, needed two reducer fittings for the trans cooler and a 180 degree fitting to finish off the lines, got a 12 foot roll of heatproof sleeve to put on the trans cooler and fuel lines that are close to the exhaust, a fancy black billet overflow for the radiator, and another adaptor for the fuel…[Read more]

Was gonna start a new thread but found this so thought I’d grab the shovel and give it the old dig. There’s been some improvements in recent years with OBD scanners, anyone here use/recommend one? Managed to get two hose ends on over the weekend. Left a layer or two of tightly wrapped tape on the end of the hose and got the fittings on properly. Put the trans cooler adaptors on and ran the two lines in through the guard to start working out where to run them. Cheers Gary, that looks good. How much gap did you end up with between the lines and exhaust? any comments or issues during the inspection when getting the rego sorted?

Anyone have suggestions on how much space i should try to keep between the trans cooler/fuel lines and the exhaust? it gets pretty tight up near the firewall and i’m not sure if there is a minimum distance or if i can use some heat proof sleeving over the lines.
