Pacemaker tri Y’s for easy of fitment and clearance hands down no contest. On mine I still made 508rwhp with them, its not as though they completely choke it. Both 4 into 1’s sit quite low under the car, they are more difficult to fit, have less clearance to the chassis and around the steering, but do ultimately allow more power.

Pacemakers in a heart beat. They fit like a glove compared to any other shitty brand.

i dont intend to do any more than a cam, so Tri Y’s are probably more than enough, plus from what ive read they keep some of the down low torque, however my VY is fitted with factory Fe2, and i wont be lowering it so 4 into one are still a possibility if i need

Ive got Pacemaker extractors on my VS, although its a different engine and model ive had trouble with fitment of them in the past…..and there customer service wasn’t great when i called to ask why they didn’t fit

Advance headers are supposedly made by a former employee of Pacemaker, both made here is SA

would you go Tri Y’s cava, or 4 into 1’s

at this stage im leaning towards Tri-ys, if yous are pretty confident that pacemaker are a good fit id go for those

    another few questions

what kind of extractors would be best suited to a stock or mild cammed LS1,

i have read on alot of forums regarding Try-Y’s and 4 into 1’s an there is alot of mixed views

i have spotted a few sets secondhand that i think are reasonably priced, $300-350 lately but just not sure on what to look out for

currently found a pair of advance headers for $300, but have found a few sets of pacemaker 4 into 1’s for $300-350

my whole intention for this engine will be to fix the oil leaks and fit a cam at the same time, i dont want to do any work to the block like rebuilding it, but also dont know what would be suggested for headwork for the 241 heads, which cam’s (part numbers and brands) and associated parts people would suggest i need

the car i intend to fit this to is my VY which is street driven daily, and will have an Auto transmission

this one poped up on gumtree while i was looking for stuff, if you dont mind traveling interstate.

all seems to be ok, a looks like a genuine VS SS ute, right colour/year etc

like i said above get me a full VIN number and i’ll check the option codes that come up

get me the complete VIN number (PM me if you like) i’ll try and look it up, wont have a special build plate unless it was HSV enhanced, and any car can be optioned with this though and it doesn’t necessarily mean its engine enhancements

    Hi and welcome

VS Series 3 SS utes where very limited build, 300 of them in total by memory which only came out in 1998 and 1999, engine price all depends on your budget mainly, and your intentions for the engine/car, and if you intend to do the work yourself?

if you click the link thats my under my username (to the left) you will go to my VS v8 thread, that might give you’s some idea

Well cars been running really good, have had an exhaust leak fixed, and a pair of dump tips fitted to the exhaust a few months ago, just need to get around to booking it in for the final tune, hopefully in the next few weeks

Still have an ABS Fault, which i need to find,

Have sourced a full set of factory V8 Fe2 Springs and Swaybars for it, particularly wanted the swaybars, so i can swap the adjustable ones over

been contemplating fitting a VT/VX/VY brake booster and master cylinder to it for a while now, i kept the one out of a VX SS i parted out a few moths back, after a bit of measuring i had a bracket folded up, and the other part of it lasercut, which i welded up last weekend

I done the same i just used the factory fuse location for the airbag as my car doesnt have airbags, and cut the wire from the back of it and hooked up the 3 gauges that are under my radio to that, that fuse is solely now for the Autometer gauges so ive just used a 10 fuse

As i have a statesman dash in the car i replaced the factory clock with a LED voltmeter which, i wired in at a later date, i used a combination of what would of been the factory phone wires that are on the LHS of the dash, ran those to a fused relay, then used the remaining wires from the clock for the gauge, illumination etc

nice work, couple of off topic questions

    1. do you by any chance have the VN SS rear swaybar?

    2. im helping a mate with his HR sedan, would you know which colour wires are ignition, and what is the dimmer for the headlights, as i need to wire gauges for him.

can anyone here confirm the diameter of a rear swaybar in a factory fitted VN V8 (fe2 or stock suspension), or if by chance the production code still happens to be on it?

need to know if there 18mm, 19mm or 20mm

Well today i went to U pull it, at Elizabeth, didnt find anything at there so went to Gilman, no cars at either had factory fitted Fe2 on the build plates, but on the last VS i looked at i managed to find a set of Rear Fe2 springs from a sedan, which still had there tags and were not cut, so i grabbed them for $30.00

also think i have found the correct fe2 front swaybar, from another wrecker, out of a VR S pac  but it wasn’t out the car yet, so will hopefully get that next week once he removes it

now just need to find the rear fe2 swaybar

theres only 1mm between the physical size- fe2 is 25mm, but a stock one from v6 is 26mm

just depends if there made from the same grade spring steel,

i’ll let you know about the springs, i’ll go for a drive Wednesday to u pull it, and take a set of verniers. try and sort out rear springs and front and rear swaybars

what did you want for them?

im just trying to work out what i want, there is actually 2 listings in that info above for VS’s with fe2

EG code (non SS) which is a linear coil

HT code (SS) which is variable

but both the VR info, and later VS info has no mention of the HT code, so dont know what holdens done there

leaning towards EG front springs, and then just hunt down the matching 25mm “GC” front swaybar,

then use a “XM” rear spring and “AG” v8 Fe2 rear swaybar, which might be the hard bit to source

i’ll have a look on Wednesday at U Pull it

im not sure on what my chance’s are of getting a 20mm rear swaybar from a VR/VS V8 with fe2 and live axle, most i would think are IRS, so i might be a bit of a search, might have to look at a few VN V8’s, they might be the same

i’ll have a look at a few wreckers this week sometime and see how i go

yeah very handy info took me a few years to to all of the supplement manuals

i forgot about the SS ute, so checked that one, an updated the info above, says the spring rates were different, swaybar was also a 27mm front swaybar, like SS, but the rear doesn’t mention anything about a different swaybar

if i get time tonight a post the actual photos of the springs and swaybar info up for future reference

I wouldn’t be too worried about changing your sway bars if I were you mate, if you do maybe just change the rear bar, I’m pretty sure the front sway bar that was in my vr ss was just a 27mm swaybar, which is the same size as what I just swapped out of my stocko vg v6 ute, if you find out what size rear swaybar the fe2 live axle commodores ran I’m sure you could find the right size at the wreckers, I’ve got one of each size from 16-20mm stashed away and a few spares just incase I need them one day, I plan on running a 19mm rear bar on the ute to go with the pedders 28mm front bar which made a huge difference on it’s own

ive got all the prodution codes and thickess they use from my workshop manuals

my main concern is the rear, it be nice to get a complete set though

    VR/VS front swaybar opions were:

24mm-V6/V8 sedan/wagon with Country pack suspension (production option V5W) Swaybar ID Code “GB”

25mm-V6/V8 sedan with FE2 suspension, without IRS Swaybar ID Code “GC”

26mm-V6 sedan standard suspension, V6/V8 wagon with standard suspension, V6 Ute, V8 sedan with standard suspension, V8 engine sedan with Fe2 and IRS,  All statesman and Caprices, an VS SS utes -Swaybar ID Code “GD”

Rear swaybars for live axle are:

16mm- all utes–sedan with country pack suspension V5W–code is “AE”

18mm-v6 station wagon models with standard suspension, v6/v8 wagon with Country pack suspension V5W, production code “AA”

19mm-v6 sedan with fe2 or standard suspension, v6 wagon with fe2, v8 wagon with standard suspention production code “AF”

20mm- v8 sedan with standard or fe2  suspension, production code “AG”

Ive still got both, swaybar is on my car but I dont remember it having a two letter code on it, the springs I think they still have a sticker on them but will have to check

there is a good chance the code is worn away
