Still waiting to hear back from Adam,

Cava, ive asked at another place to see which springs will suit.

I have been told that PAC Hot Rod Series Dual Valve Springs (springs only) Part no: PAC-1918, will Suit the Comp Cam 54-456-11 im looking at

have also been told, Comp Cams 26926TS-KIT is suitable which is a complete kit, this is kit listed for the Cam

do you know if the PAC ones look to be the correct parts and specs? or heard any good or bad news on the comp cams ones?

ive got a 120amp (jas oceania) alternator currently on my VS, is a rewound version of a 85amp amp alternator

you will be best upgrading the charge wire if you do upgrade it

I went arp bolts for some piece of mind. Studs weren’t in the budget.

I’ve emailed Adam a list of pretty much all the parts you suggested.

i have asked for either ARP head bolts or ARP head studs, but when I checked eBay I did notice there was quite a bit of different in price between the two.

Also asked if there is anything else that I should consider or may need that I’ve missed, so see what he says in the next few days.

Ive got ARP head studs on the 355 in the VS, but as mentioned trying to keep to a more sensible budget on this engine, and the main reason for me doing this is to fit the parts myself

So i called, my local speed shop which quoted me $700 for the cam alone, i can get the exact same cam from summit for $553 including freight from ebay

so i gave Adam at precision international call explained that you gave me his number, i grabbed his email address off him so i’ll send him a list of the stuff im looking at.

would you go ARP head bolts or studs, over a set of TTY?

    thanks, appreciate the help

i know a guy at the local speed shop here in adelaide (Customer from my work) looked after me on prices when i was building the VS engine, so i’ll go ask him next week

is Adam at precision international in VIC at a guess

I have already got a approx. price on a VRS of gaskets and a sump gasket, from my local parts shop while i was in there, they also gave a price on new head bolts $110- (they get these from precision anyway)

already have the ARP balancer bolt on my list, will add cam bolts to it though

same with the waterpump, although i will see when the water pump was changed, or it it has been at all and might put a new on at the same time…..

i’ll try and work out the list of part numbers/brands as best i can, and go for price them up next week at a few places locally, ive already got some ebay prices written down…..gives me a week to work out what i want

So im starting to put a list of parts together, do these part numbers sound right?

    Comp cams Camshaft  219/227—-Part No#54-456-11

Comp cams Roller Rocker Trunnion Upgrade Kit—Part No#13702-KIT

    LS7 Lifters?

Pac Double Valve Springs  —-Part no#???

now as for the LS7 lifters do you go aftermarket or factory GM? i did go thought the comp cams catalogue but i didnt see anything mentioned LS7 specifically

and also with the PAC double valve springs which series/type did you use?

Rollmaster Timing Chain Vernier Adjustable Part no# CS1265 is the only adjustable one i can see listed

im still undecided on the UD pulley

I did look through this thread regarding Cams as I had asked before but couldn’t see anything regarding Cams being posted.

if I was to go 219/227 Comp cam, PAC double springs but no head work.

Do I use Comp Cams for the Trunnion upgrade or another brand?

Do I only need to upgrade to ls7 lifters if I shave the heads. or can I use them from the start?

Can I reuse the original pushrods? Or do I need to get new ones?

Do i need a double row timing chain and do I worry about anything like an under drive pulley?

Any part numbers in particular, for any of the above?

Might go get a price in the next few weeks, bought a rear main tool the other  day to align the cover and seal

what are peoples experiences with VCM Cams?

I have narrowed down cam selection the VCM21 or VCM2 (or something equivalent from another manufacturer)

what other parts will be required for a cam upgrade, as a minimum? which brands etc

do i need single or double valve springs? which type of lifter(tiebar?) and even roller rocker?

will the 241 heads require work?

as mentioned above, the intention for this engine will be to fix the oil leaks and fit a cam at the same time, i dont want to do any work to the block like rebuilding it. The car i intend to fit this to is my VY sedan which is street driven daily, and will have an auto transmission and dont really want to run a stall, am looking at either 3.46 or 3.73 diff gear at this stage

looks nice, reminds me alot of my uncles old VK, which is the reason i asked

his was a factory V8 Berlina auto he had a HDT kit fitted to it,  from what i can remember it was a group 3 lower kit and group a boot spoiler, was a similar colour, i was originally a trial colour that didn’t end up going into production, but he had it resprayed later on with a mix between the original colour, a Suzuki colour and something else, 3 colours in total,

i have his old workshop manual around here somewhere from when he had it which has a very itemized list of what he had done to it, paint codes and what he bought for it

He fitted a full VK Calais interior to it, he then fitted the Berlina trim into my grandfathers VK executive, which my parents ended up buying a few years later

my uncle sold it back about 1999/2000, and we only ever saw it once after that when we were out somewhere it wasn’t in the same condition, it had changed owners 2 or 3 time since

thanks for posting the pictures up

He has actually just bought an Aeroflow stand, supposedly you can start it on it. I had a chat to him about the importance of removing the plugs, fitting an oil pressure gauge and turning it over until it has pressure before starting. Its something I have always done. He is only 11, and I reckon given that is doing an awesome job.

    did your engine fit?

Yep lol My mates didn’t come close to fitting.

i bought one which ended up in the scrap heap a few days later, had the same issue nothing would line up and ended up welding up my own-I did used the wheels off the Aeroflow one though

I was able to get a Caprice interior which included electric front seats, rear seat and door cards from the same guy that I got the manual off and a complete wiring harness for them, they are only missing the side covers and I’ve learnt they are very brittle these days so they are very rare and not many people will post them, so I will be making covers out of aluminium that wont break as easy.

If you ever find a set of the plastic surrounds for the caprice seats, let me know, ive been looking since i put electric seats in my VS, which was about 5-6 years ago

id even settle for a set of fibreglass ones
