Posts: 435Done a complete swap to my VS executive, Including swapping main wiring harness from a Statesman into it.
big job but well worth it it
swapping the dash and trim over- no wiring should be pretty straightforward

Posts: 435I’m told from VT onwards the 2 piece transmission lines are a larger diameter that the earlier VR/VS single case transmissions and this helps with them running cooler.
sounds about right, thats what i was told in regards to the line size, which is why i struggled to find a set

Posts: 435Was the stall choice recommended by the place that built it or something you decided on? I don’t want to choose something that will make the thing a pig to drive but just liven it up and work well with the 3:73 gears.
stall was recommended by the place that built it, i went in there wanting a 2200-2500 max, as the car is only ever used on the street, told me to go a 3000 10″ as they apparently stall up quicker than a larger 2500rpm
i was originally going for a 2500 as crane cams suggest (minimum that size) for my cam
This means my budgeting was about right. But we will see how it all goes I guess. Did you use speedflow fittings from your trans to the cooler or standard hard lines and push on hose. Not sure what way I will go but speedflow would be a neater fit I think.
i did Purchase Aeroflow fittings, as i couldnt get hardlines at the time. i had already fitted when i did find harlines, so i went with the aeroflow fitting first
one of the Aeroflow fitting hit the trans tunnel, while removing one of them ready to fit the hardline i snapped the fitting clean off in the transmission casing, then snapped a ezyout in that trying to get it out, gave up that night dropped it off to the same transmission place the next morning, who managed to get all the bits out the cleaned it out.
i had actually had the hardlines when i pulled the old 5.0lt out the car, when we dropped that into my mates car we couldn’t get them so we used my set that i had for my VS, which was still far away from getting the engine (this was a year earlier) so thought i would find a set, most wreckers cut them
when i started getting close to putting my engine in and i hadn’t found any VS ones, 1997 and earlier VS V8’s were Different thread, VT 5.0lts are run on the other side of the sump, i managed to find a set of those so i grabbed them from 4 blok, a day later on gumtree some was striping a 1998 VS v8 Statesman locally, so gave him a call and got those too, kept the VT ones as spares for now.
my transmission lines just have push on hose to the cooler, the cooler has a female 1/2 thread, on both the inlets and outlet and i just bought a couple of 3/8 barbs to suit, top one is straight, and the other has a 1/2 nipple to -8AN then from that to a 45 degree 3/8 swivel barb fitting,

Posts: 435If it was huge HP then no question. Mine is only a stocky with a bit of work nothing special. I’ll talk to the trans shop soonish and see how we go. I will let you know the direction I end up taking though. Watch this space……… and this one too.
pretty much what I was looking for mine, I only originally wanted a 2500rpm stall, ended up going a 3000 rpm 10 inch lock up stall
As for the trans cooler I’ve gone for the biggest one b&m make (made by LONG- which from what I found is part of Dana) Long is used from factory on some VS Towpacks (which was what was on my VS to start with)
mounted pretty much in the centre of the radiator

Posts: 435my VS has a 4L60E (8HBD) with a 2 Piece case (Factory 1998 VS Transmission-same as used in the VT)
Holden swapped to these sometime during 1997
checked ebay and there is a 7HBD which is a single case trans for v8
there are other 1997 v6 one’s on there which some are single and some are 2 piece
Maybe when VT was released?

Posts: 435Not sure the VS stuff will be any good for mine as the BCM is different and may require a bit of work to get working properly. The hydraulic pedal box I reckon I can get and know of one for sale. Although still won’t be cheap and can vary from $3-$400.
well the VR V6 manual ECU and the VR V8 Manual ECU manual are the same part numbers from i can remember while looking for mine
VS V8 Manual V8 ECU is the same again, but VS V6 has a different part no, so would be a different ECU
i only have an manual engine harness so might be able to adapt it if it needs it, where it plugs into the body harness
i sold my pedalbox, for $300, if i get time later tonight i’ll put the spec of my transmission up

Posts: 435Have you spoken to auto meter?
No, not yet didnt really think there much point, might send them an email just to see what they say.
Does sound like one where you might need to do something to verify them, otherwise cant really see too many people paying you much to essentially take a punt?
yeah, i know thats the chance but if i start them off at $100, someone might
i just dont want to spend hundreds, on getting them repaired, just to get $200 back
