Posts: 435Ok bit of an update.
so as mentioned all the injector plugs on the loom are pulsing, I had one off at a time and they were lighting up while cranking. I had checked spark on all the spark plugs, made sure the leads are all on. They looked a little carboned but not wet. And having replaced the pump with a spare I decided to make a small loom with a single injector plug and check the injectors were actually working. Only really heard one of the 8 click on. Tested this same harness on the Ecotec I had removed from this car and the few I tried it on clicked on/off. Also tried it on another LS1 I have complete in the shed (ready for another car) each injector clicked on/off. so I decided to just swap the rail over with the spare. Once I done this I cranked it over and at first. Nothing had changed. But then it fired and stalled. Then done it again and it started straight up.
very happy with the outcome

Posts: 435Ok so I’ve almost got this conversion completed. The engine and transmission are all in the car everything is back together . the car cranks, continuously if i hold the ignition on but it won’t fire. So I need a bit of help
I’ve scanned the car with my Tech 2 clone and it has no faults showing on anything including the PCM, PIM or BCM
I have checked the injector wiring plugs with a test light and cranked it over and they all light up
the fuel pump I had in it until last night was brand new. It would prime, no problem. It was a aftermarket one with a Walbro pump. But I swapped it over just incase it I been sold a bad one. Currently one is a second hand one.
I’ve started checking coils and leads, cylinders 1, 3 and 5 so far have spark. I’ll check the rest tonight. While it’s cranking how often should the coil I’m checking spark. I’m use to the 5lt, with a quick and constant spark while cranking. Because it’s 1 coil firing all cylinders. But the LS seems to have a bit of a pause. Is this because each cylinder has its own coil?
What pressure does the low oil pressure switch cut in at? To not let the engine start?
what oil pressure should it be at while cranking?
And what fuel pressure should it be at?
my next thing is to check the injectors are working properly, is there a way of doing this?

Posts: 435Could anyone tell me what they did regarding the LS1 front steam pipes. I’m not looking to block them completely, but more so asking the question if i need to run the factory setup which is via the throttle body?
if i understand the factory setup properly, it is used for vehicles in cold climates to keep the throttle from freezing up
Can i bypass the throttle body hoses and just run the steam pipe from the front of the drivers side head to the front of the passenger side head, and just block off the throttle body hose that does to the radiator or does it still need to be kept?

Posts: 435I ended up buying a balancer install tool, Balancer went on no issues. It’s all torqued up. Engine has been all cleaned up. Will get the transmission bolted up in the next few days and start fitting some of the accessories and engine and battery looms
then i just need to start pulling apart the VY Berlina

i haven’t got a specific tool to install it, was just going to lock the flexplate up and put it on most of the way with the old bolt, then remove the old bolt and finish up with the new ARP Bolt i have. the rest of the way?
is there another way?

Posts: 435Hi, Been a while but finally planning to do the engine conversion……
A couple of things have changed, but basic plan now is to get the stock LS1 into the car and get it running, the only thing i am doing before it goes in are, the Rear main gasket and plate, Oil Pan gaskets, and a new front crankshaft seal and timing cover gasket.
I have removed the balancer, but i forgot to mark it, is there a certain way it needs to go back on? as there is no keyway or markings? i haven’t adjusted anything to to with the cam or timing.

Posts: 435Yea agree the rat is cool but not my thing. Yep the colour combo is picked, ivory over a bronze/metallic orange that Ford did for the 5oth anniversary Falcon called Sunburst. There’s a few similar colour, BMW have one too. I keep coming back to the change is look with angle of the Ford colour.
Reminds me a bit of the HSV colour Jaffa on the 10th anniversary VT HSV’s

Posts: 435Yeah I thought they all would have had airbags at least, unless someone decided to pull it out, probably not that uncommon. I’m having trouble even locating a VR without all 3 options, most seem to have abs except the utes.
Airbags are defiantly optional on VS executive, also steering wheel center is different on a non airbag car, they dont have a clock spring for the airbags the later Holden Logo is also used on the steering wheel center that was introduced in VS production (compared to VN/VP/VR type logo) so it cant have been swapped from an early holden model
you’ll have to find an executive, which shouldn’t be that hard to find
i would think Acclaim and any special packs like Equipe or Esteem are likely to have at least 1 of the 3 things mentioned above, as they tend to throw stuff in to boost sales or clear excess stock
on a side note i bought a VY 1 Tonner ute about 6 months ago, it doesn’t have a passenger side airbag, or ABS both optional on the base model VY, i thought that was strange as i always thought VT onwards had both a drivers and passenger side airbags as a minimum

Posts: 435My VS is a 1996 series 2 Executive (was a v6-now v8) even then the ABS/Airbags/IRS were still optional
mine was factory fitted with ABS, but doesnt have Airbags or IRS
mate of mine has a 1995 VS executive he picked up for a run around and it doesnt have ABS, Airbags or IRS
I think with my VS the live axle has a limited amount of space for a exhaust system, mine has a twin 2.5″ and its just clears the diff, but i haven’t owned a VP/VR/VS with IRS could it be just as bad.

Posts: 435I’ll try and fit a new insert into the spare housing I have and see how it goes.
$36 isn’t a huge outlay, it might also give me enough time to decide on the other mount if it doesn’t work out

Posts: 435I’ve had the diff out once before. I thought while i was at it to replace the standard type rubber mount with nolathene type but when I went to do it couldn’t get the insert into the housing.
i ended up giving up a refitting the stock one.
now that I’m fitting the new diff soon, I’m just trying to work out the best option, I’m not real sure on the nolathene ones. I’m more leaning towards a Tuff Mounts one(similar to what you posted above) or the Harrop cover. But no one has much feedback on either

Posts: 435It’s being built by the diff builder, but he has run out of spare m80 housings
looks like we’ve found one, cheapish. off gumtree
Have rung around but no one seemed to have any. Only 3 wrecking yards, here in Adelaide said they had them in stock. So I went for a drive, only to find there where v6 diffs. to be honest, I thought there be heaps
Looks like it’s sorted now anyway

Posts: 435Well spoke to the exhaust shop today who had done my VS’s exhaust system
I ended up ordering a Xforce 2.5″ system with the normal size rear muffler which has two pipes into the rear muffler and 2 pipes out, it is also is brushed stainless steel, as there mild steel systems are discontinued.
I did price up the cats that are suppose to bolt up to the extractors, but they are about $150-200 cheaper on ebay.
Also Picked up a Manual VZ V8 Radiator
and does anyone know where in Adelaide i can can the rubber A/C Hoses?
