Posts: 81I know my car isn’t the same as a VN but my VH is running FR19s with a decent dish on the rear with 245 rubber. Rims are 9.5 inchs wide and the car has a standard VH diff. I’ve lowered the car but not dramatically. I was getting rubbing in the rear with the car lowered so got the guards rolled.
The rims are not made for the diff set up but when I get the VL Turbo diff shortened to suit the rims I’m sure I can at least fit 255 may be even 265 rubber without mini tubbing.
An idea for you is to get your hands on a VL diff. it’s narrower than the standard VN and that will save you a bit of $$$.

Posts: 81The car is being put back together as we speak. I seemed to have misplaced a rear door check strap though I did manage to find some though online. ordered two just in case.
Getting the pin striping done tomorrow. Have gone with a light silver with satin finish. Apparently they were originally this colour from factory but turn white with age. I thought the white would stand out too much anyway. Fingers crossed it turns out as I picture it.
Hoping the badges I’m getting done turn up soon too. I’ve been told that they exist but are getting chromed and the black section is getting sprayed.

Posts: 81I’m pretty certain that they are circuit breakers.
One is for power windows the other for central locking. When there is a power surge or someone holds down the electric window switches for a long time it pops out stopping power going to the switch so it doesn’t melt.
The other will pop out if there is something wrong with your central locking.

Posts: 81Can anyone post a photo of the rear of their car with the boot open. Need to send it to the body shop so they know what line to follow when they spray the black sections.

Posts: 81I sent and saw the car in person yesterday (photos were from the body shop) and it looked awesome and it was straight off the gun.
I told them to leave the body molds off for the moment. I’ll try clean them up as best I can or find NOS ones and fit them back myself later.
The Black sections of the car (pillars, window surrounds, rear section around the tail lights) will be sprayed this week then it will start to get pieced together.

Thinking of leaving the body molds off the car. what do you guys think?

Posts: 81Door belt arrived yesterday. Rubber is soft like new and chrome is straight and clean!
Just got a call from the body shop too. Car is getting colour this weekend. I have to pop in this afternoon to confirm the colour. The paint mixing system in the shop shows two different Indigo blues with the paint code that matches what’s on the car. One has a violet tinge to it compared to the other so he wants me to come in and choose which way to go. I’m already thinking the blue without the violet blend but will drop by to confirm this.
I’ll hopefully have some photos to show you guys on Monday. Finally things are moving along.

Posts: 81Waiting for the passenger door belt to arrive and then I’ll drop by. I’m expecting to see the car still sitting in the corner in primer though.
As much as I want the car back now it sort of suits me. The garage is full of building material for a development I’m working on in Huskisson, NSW.

SLE355, not sure how good the NOS door belt will look compared to the rare spares ones but going off what’s on the car already with the rare spare they look identical. Just hoping they fit properly too.

Posts: 81Managed to find a brand new NOS VH SLE Front Passenger side door belt! This part is pretty much non existent. Paid an absolute mint for it but I guess the best time to buy something is when you find it. (haven’t had buyers remorse yet but I’m hoping the wife doesn’t find out.)
I don’t know why but Rare spares sell the Drivers side, and LH and RH rear door belts but not the front passengers. They’ll probably release it next week now that I bought one.
Pretty happy about this as it means that all the rubbers on the car are now brand new.
Gives me an excuse to drop in on the panel shop this week.

Posts: 81It’s almost black. I’d say a very very dark grey. I can take a photo of it out in the sun if you like.
I actually bought 3 of these grilles as I’d been looking for ages for them thinking they were hard to come by. As it turns out, there must have been a shipment of them come through and they’re everywhere on ebay. Glad I’m not the guy that paid $200+ for one a few months ago.

Posts: 81No good with the bumper molds. Tried a number of places and they all couldn’t guarantee they would turn out the same as standard.
No progress on the car since I last wrote. Car is sitting in the shop still waiting paint. Can’t really rush the guy as he’s doing me a favour but I’m itching to get it back.
Have managed to get newly chromed bars, new grill. just waiting for the badges to come back from the guy reproducing them. They closed over the Christmas break and are due back at work end of January.

Posts: 81Nope. Still sitting at the body shop waiting for paint. body and panels are all ready but the workshop has been smashed with insurance work so my car has taken a back seat. Can’t complain though. It’s a mates panel shop and he’s doing some good work for a discounted price, at least it’s getting done.
I told him that I need the car back by end of January for rego so should get it back by then at the latest.

Posts: 81Door jams are getting done too. They need to finish them off as well as the side skirts and pillars then off to spray.
With the molds, I’ve been told I need to talk to a rubber extrusions manufacturer.
