I love hearing stories like this.  :good:

I did the same a few years back with my VH. First thing I also changed was the suspension. The drive from Canberra to Sydney with the tired suspension was interesting (body roll much!) especially since my daily is a VW Golf R.

    Keep up the good work.

Sounds right. Shouldn’t matter if the temp outside is cold compared to it being warm. The colder outside the longer it may take the engine to get up to optimal operating temperature.

I don’t think the car is overheating and I suggest checking that the radiator cap is ok and you’re not overfilling the overflow bottle.

Temp sounds normal to me too.

I just changed the thermostat and water pump on the VH. The needle was getting all the way to the red at a standstill and just over 3/4’s when moving.

At first I thought it may have been the temp sensor or the temp gauge because it was fine one week then overheating the next. I bought a laser temperature gun as a back up which confirmed it was the pump. Since changing it the car sits at a 1/4 temp and might go close to half on a hot day sitting in traffic.

Now for the SL/E grille badge

    Already done.

No Holden badge on the grille though. I like the lone off centre SLE badge.

Managed to get an SLE badge last week. Only have one at the moment and I fitted it to the car.

    Very happy with the results!!!

    Just added double sided tape

A bit of a clean after it’s attached to make it nice and shinny!

Also managed to get the cost of the Commodore badge down. I’m hoping to be able to get the pair (Commodore and SLE) down to $150

I’ve put one up on eBay at the moment to see what it could get. I need to sell them for $150 to cover my costs. I’m getting the rear SLE done to make sure it matches the Commodore badge.

Finally received the first batch of rear commodore badges.

They have a minimum order of 35 though which I paid for and have in my hands! On a positive I’ve managed to get them for $150 each. If anyone is interested PM me or send me an email at sle881@hotmail.com. They will need double sided tape to fix them to your car. I’ve also asked for 35 matching SLE badges and the commodore front bar badges which should be done in a few weeks.

Still trying to get a hold of the badges. They’re done but hard to get a hold of at the moment.

In other news look what turned up on gumtree http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/1113716656

It’s my old VH that I did the conversion to. Don’t know why the guy has added the VK Brock grille…

Sorry. Started a new job a few weeks back so been busy. Not sure what happened to Kingswood County. I dealt with them directly. Should have the finished badges but next week. Just the rear commodore one and maybe the front bar ones.

No sticky backing. Have to do that myself. I asked about it, It can be done but added too much to the cost.

I saw the guy on FB making his own. His are plastic, I think he just repaired an old one rather than make a new one.

No updates as yet. I’ve been busy with work and family to follow up on the badges. I’m hoping I’ll have them soon. The rear of the car looks weird with the gap in the pin striping with no badges. Every time I take her out I get asked why the pin stripes stop there.

Car has been sitting in the garage collecting dust for almost a month. Hoping to get it out this weekend for a wash and a drive. I have been looking at replacing the front and rear speakers as they’re all sounding a little crackly. Looking at sticking with the same size speakers, no cutting of the parcel tray just a direct drop in.

Took the car out with my wife and 3 year old on Saturday. First time they went in the car and they loved it.

Saturday night I went for a drive and met up with a few guys that are trying to start a monthly meet in Rydalmere, NSW.

    It’s called “Chrome ‘n’ Hardware”

It’s a gathering of all old school muscle with the exception of early 80’s Falcoms and Commodores and such.

At this stage it looks like it will be a monthly event (3rd Saturday of every month) at the McDonalds/Bunnings on Victoria Rd Rydelmere.

I’ll post a reminder for the next one if anyone is interested.

Here’s some of the cars there on the night next the the VH

I’ll try again with the bumper molds once I get the badges sorted. Hopefully the guy getting the badges for me can point me in the right direction.

They used to but not any more.

They sell the SLE and Holden emblem badges only and I believe all the badges apart from the rear boot lock badge are plastic.

Badge is same height but 2mm longer. I’m told that this will be fixed when they make the final badge, this was one just made up to get the colouring right.

Can’t wait to have these fitted to the car.

Another update on the Commodore badge.

The rear Commodore badge is pretty much done. Looking to get my hands on about 10 of these (maybe more).

Here’s a few pics – let me know your thoughts

    Top one is the original

If anyone is interested let me know. PM me here or better yet send me an email at sle881 (at) hotmail.com

Price will depend on how many people are interested but I’ve been told to expect about $150-$170

I’m also looking at getting my hands on the following so the badges all match.

    Boot SLE badge

    Boot lock Holden badge

    Commodore front bar badges

Front grille Holden and SLE badges

    SLE steering wheel badge

Also trying to get the chrome internal door latch and door lock surrounds

I was going to clean the door molds first and put them on but I like the look without them. The pin stripe fills the door mold void.

I also had a look at the rear boot badge today that I’m getting remade. It looks perfect and solid. Just have to get colour on it. Trying to get a few extra made if anyone is interested.

Also trying to get the inside door latch and door lock surrounds remade out of metal.

Finally got the car back yesterday afternoon. I’m blown away by the quality of the spray job on the car and attention to detail.

I have to give a big thanks to Robert and Sam from E.R. McNamara Smash Repairs at St Peters. The work quality and attention to detail is second to none.

    Now for the pics.

    Back home from the shop

10mins after getting her home, back with the FR19s. I know they’ve been done to death but they just suit the car.

Pin striping is flawless. Exactly like factory. I always thought the strip was white but I’m glad I listened to the panel shop who have worked on many of these cars in the 80s and 90s and went with silver.

    Mirror finish

Just waiting for the badges that I’m getting reproduced and it’ll be complete on the outside.

Really want to enter her into the next car show in Sydney. If anyone knows where to find info on car shows let me know.
