Posts: 33it will be 1/10th scale so about 15-20cm high.
I haven’t got the model yet, still looking around for the right one, but that one is fairly close to what I’m looking at. The really fine details aren’t an issue.
I will send you a file once I decide with the one I’m going with, see what you think
cheers

Posts: 33it’s not car parts, but I’ll be building up a scale RC Huey Helicopter soon – long term project!
It’s around 1/10th scale. Can’t seem to find pilots in the right scale, so was thinking about creating a couple of pilots with something like Daz 3D or Poser, export them in a 3D printer friendly format and find someone to print them for me.
Would you be interested in something like that ? What file formats can you handle ? 3DS ?
If you’re interested, when I model the pilots I can send you a file for a quotecheers

I’m hoping to get myself a set of COME 590 heads in the not too distant future
Wish my budget could also extend to one of those Grp A manifolds… will just have to make do with my Trickshift copy

Posts: 33Did my apprenticeship as a mechanic at a Holden dealer, spent about another 10 years in the trade. Got to road test a few brand new VL Walkinshaws and VN Grp A’s, which was fairly awesome, especially for an apprentice who was a huge Commodore fan. That was about the only perks of an otherwise unrewarding career.
Worked in a few other crappy little jobs after that, trying to get off the tools.Spent a few years working as motor assessor for IAG Insurance (NRMA, CGU)
For the last 7 years I’ve worked for the Qld Govt as a Dept of Transport ‘Transport Inspector’
Spend a fair bit of time away from home working an area the size of NSW and some horrible shifts. But overall, not a bad jobApril 26, 2015 at 6:38 am #5619

Posts: 33there’s a few clear plastic restoration products you can buy that might sort out the yellowing and fine scratches from the gear indicator

Posts: 33The idea of putting a dizzy up the rear in the mess of wiring, fuel lines, coolant hoses etc. (5L)
although it was better than Fords idea of sticking at the front of the engine. As soon as the car hit water, the fan would blow the water straight into the distributor lol

Posts: 33Whoever at GM decided that on a car with a windscreen the size of a VR Commodore that the window washer squirters could be the size of a Fiat Bambino was a moron. Thankfully they changed it in the VS though, sadly VS ones won’t fit a VR bonnet cut out though :(
the damn things block up all the time too. Mine are way past their used by date

Posts: 33it certainly launches & tracks straight for something doing sub 10’s. I think it’s one of the big reasons it manages such a good ET.
You might be surprised to know it was still running a Commodore rear end setup in that run- no 4 link last time I spoke to him. One of his priorities is to keep the car reasonably street legal and driveable. Even has the baby capsule in the back when I saw it.

yep a 7.9 ET
And he drove it with a trailer with all his gear behind to the Summernats a couple of years ago.
Terry dyno tuned my setup, knows his shit. I checked out his car when I was there. You’d never guess from it’s appearance what it’s capable ofApril 4, 2015 at 11:05 am #3896

Posts: 33yeah I love the 3D printers. I’ve also considered buying one as they have come down in price a lot over the past couple of years. But I’m going to wait a bit, it’s still a relatively new technology. The entry level printer resolution still isn’t great. Won’t be long before the entry level printers are putting out the same or better quality than the higher level printers worth $20K are putting out now.
I build scale models, so it would be real handy for this sort of thing. At the moment I’m building a 1/10 scale radio control Bell UH-1B ‘Huey’. Can’t find the right scale pilot for it. I could also print the instrument panel, seats, pilot controls etc. Would be so easy to just to find a 3D image and print it.
Also I paid $90 from Ebay for a set of 10 NOS plastic gutter rail clips for the VH. I could have easily created a 3D image of one of these clips in a free 3D program like Blender and then printed a set. Could sell them for half the price of the NOS items on Ebay and still make a killing

How did you end up with a 10 bolt in a VL ?

Posts: 33I didn’t get to see the build thread on this one at the SC forums
I’ve just finished reading through it. What an achievement. Extremely tidy restoration. And to get this engine to pass emissions is fairly ground breaking for our scene. Will be nice to know that if you are ever pulled up by the law, it’s all legit
Well done!

Posts: 33top work, rather dramatic transformation from it’s humble beginnings – I like the colour too you said in the description that you fit a Quadrajet, but picture of the engine bay looks like a Holley ? I’ll also be hanging onto my VH until they bury me ;) I can totally relate
yep your right dazz that pic does have the holley on it but that was a couple of years ago, I only put the quaddy on it a couple of months ago. Reason for the change is the holley was way to small for the engine. First start up with the quaddy and you could hear the difference it made and with the test drive it had so much more go. Still yet to have it tuned properly but that will come when I get some free time.
good move – Quadrajet a very underrated carb. Better than the Holley IMO
I had a nicely setup Quaddy on my previous Vh 308.March 21, 2015 at 2:27 pm #3161
