And I can’t see it skyrocketing in value anytime soon. Yes it is a one off, but you could replicate it too easily yourself, and so many people have supercharged their VEs (using walkinshaw branded gear) that it’s not unique enough

Posts: 124As above, I love the wheels
but i hate the stretched tyre thing, I would have stayed with the 8.5 up front and fit some 285 rear tyres.
But it still looks awesome for what it is

Posts: 124I thought you only had to preload solid liters?
aren’t hydraulic roller lifters supposed to take up the slack for you? either way that sounds ok.
Cav what kind of figures did you end up with? where did you set your rpm limiter?

Posts: 124Also keep in mind your ancillaries when looking at a rebuild/conversion.
Will you need a new/secondhand alternator, power steering rack/pump, water pump, belts/pulleys, radiator, the list goes on.
I’ve been looking at rebuilding the lS1 or going an LS3 conversion, and when you look deeper there are small costs that all add up. Little things like new oils and fluids, gaskets for everything, even head studs and Balancer bolts and the list just goes on and on.
Then of course your own self-control comes into play. If you’re going to pull the whole engine apart, how far do you go? whilst your at it you’ll decide to change XYZ because you’ve already gone to the trouble of pulling it apart anyways, and soon your whole budget blows out.
Do LOTS of research and plan your build out first, and whatever figure you come up with, add a couple of grand to be safe, that’s just how it always pans out.

Posts: 124paying stupid money for X amount of horsepower isn’t necessarily going to make a car fun to drive either, people who actually enjoy driving will pay attention to things like the balance of the car, tyre and wheel choice, suspension and bushings, throttle response and and where your power band is.

Posts: 124I actually do like to see/watch shows about the guys in shops doing high end cars, but again for me its more about seeing how they do it, not what they do if that makes sense.
This sums up my love for cars. Anyone can read all day about how “this VE put out 1000hp”, but I want to know HOW it works.
What parts did they use and why, what made certain parts more suitable than others, how do those parts actually work together and what dramas did he have trying to put it all together? Are there any new ideas/technologies/modifications they used, all that stuff is the meat of the build

Cant do that because all existing orders have to be processed first…
Still wouldnt work because new MYOB won’t run on any of our computers with windows XP…
Cant upgrade to windows 8 on some of them because they’re too old…

Posts: 124if there ever was a magazine dedicated to home-builds/in-progress-builds, that went into more detail regarding the build and timeframe, problems that arose and home-made fixes, dramas about roadworthy and/or emissions tests etc, i’d susbscribe three times over.
It would crap on a bunch of half a page write-ups about trailer queens and their $20k paintjobs…

Posts: 124it might also be worth noting that (most) LS motors are more “streetable”. boosted 600-800hp LS motors are often roaming the street, and you’d never know.
They handle traffic fine, they idle smoothly, if anything they drive as smoothly as a std one. So if it’s a daily application i’d seriously consider that and the fact that given a good tune it would use less fuel on the street as well (not that it would matter that much). obviously it’s going to depend on your ultimate goal, but a brand new crate LS3 for 8k is a pretty bulletproof option for both power and everyday duties

Posts: 124The fact they rule out the Camaro and Corvette in a way leaves me to believe the Cadillac will come over. Would most likely be called the Commodore SS (keeps the SS badge going and the V8) and hopefully keep the fans happy to some extent. Just my thoughts based on that article and what I have read previously.
Surely they wouldn’t call a 2-door a “commodore”??
would still be awesome to have a LSA powered rwd Cadillac or the like come over though

Posts: 124^yea me too, or when they gradually speed up until they get just in front of the guy in the left lane, then match their speed but there is not enough room to overtake. Just brainless.
JEREMY CLARKSON GOT FIRED :(……
But to paraphrase one of his quotes of wisdom:
“undertaking someone should never be illegal, because logic dictates that if I had enough room to undertake him, HE HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO MOVE OUT OF THE FRIGGIN WAY”

Posts: 124On a side note, fantastic to see so many familiar guys and gals coming across to the new forum, of course was little nervous how it would all pan out but no bullshit a couple of days back I got on in the morning and saw a page full of new posts and thought, yep, just like SC used to be. Of course still a ways to go to get it right up there but there are some great builds and post on here.
It’s a testament to how strong the commodore/holden scene is, and how completely useless the owners of SC were….
It’s a shame that an enormous amount of useful info might die with SC though
