Posts: 206Thats beautiful mate, top build, looks like tons of fun. Coming across to Winton is on my list, be good to meet up a few of you guys over there.
Sounds good man, Performance Car Mania is a fantastic event.
Don’t read into all the haters on the internet saying how shit it is. Most of them have never even been.
Its a great event to learn the car and do stuff you can’t do on the road. Its ran really well by Sarah and it’s on the calendar for every year.
Killer man. John is the ducks nuts for gear boxes. Can’t fault him.
Agreed man, he is an absolute gentleman! Wouldn’t go to anybody else now ever.

Posts: 2061 week AFTER the gearbox was put in it was time for PCM! [Performance Car Mania] at Winton Motor Raceway.
I had the pcm de-tuned with less timing, little richer and 6800rpm rev limiter just to be on the safe side.
With the new gearbox in, and finally a chance to learn the car its good to see what it is capable of.
Its actually really lively which surprised me a bit.
I won 4 out 5 drag races before being knocked out
and also did my first powerskid! so it’s all happening.
Its next outing will be this sunday [24th sept] for the Melbourne VL Cruise.
normally i’m not a fan, but, when the organizer approaches you and asks you to go you make an appearance i guess.
1st powerskid
cruising

Posts: 206It has been a very rough few months with a few things that has been going on in day to day life.
Thought i better check in and update wether all want to hear it or not haha.
In august Matt pulled out my gearbox as it was going some really strange things. it was slipping in top, and in 1st felt like you were driving with the handbrake on. With Performance Car Mania just around the corner we had to make sure it was right otherwise i may have been out for the weekend.
The gearbox was taken to Pro Matic Transmissions [PTC Components] In Tullamarine to get a check over.
It was a little short of disheartening to what was found. We’ll just say all that was re-used from the first rebuild was the Case, Drum [which i bought from summit], oil pump and b&m pan.
The rest was START AGAIN
1 week later we got it back and it the best its ever been! Can’t recommend Johnny enough

Posts: 206Agree, when I finally meet someone off here its a bit of a buzz. Still a little pissed the way SC died, I would have happily taken it over and it would have kept all the bloody info on there, why they instead decided to just let it die is a mystery to me. I would have happily renamed it if they didn’t want to somehow be associated with it. Anyhow SC is dead long live CP, some very bloody cool builds and info on here already really.
i agree man, it really sucks.
But what you have made here is a credit to you, it’ll be the goto place for years to come #commodoresplus

Posts: 206Spoke to CAE, the pump they sent is an external pump and will be fine for a stock motor but probably will be too small once it’s cammed, and I dont really want to run it with a fuel system on it’s limit. I can send it back to swap for a larger one, but need some suggestions on options. They can supply a Walbro pump that flows around 250lph that can be mounted in tank (I’ve got a VR fuel tank), or they can supply a Bosch 044 mounted externally, and fed by the lift pump if the tank I have has a lift pump and not a high pressure pump. Ebay prices seem a lot cheaper than what I’ve paid, but not sure if they’re Chinese copies. Could also stick with it for now as it’ll be a while before it’s cammed, but not sure if the external pump will work with my tank as I dont know what the pump is like yet. Suggestions/advice would be welcome haha
if only getting is cammed just go 460lph intank and upgrade the wiring. then that way if you go a setup like mine with big injectors its covered

Posts: 206Seen this at Holden nats on weekend. It’s so much nicer then any photos here portray. Sounded killer and ran a bundle of 10’s all weekend. Was great to meet you also.
You’re a gentleman man, was good to put a face to the name finally haha. 10.63 @132mph, 1.52 in the 60′ on that pass was the best run of the day and a pb at that! More stall speed and 4.11 gears to come over the winter break. Hopefully your vs may make an appearance there next year
i hope soo man. Was a great weekend racing. Good to meet some people and cars. It’s funny how everyone is associated with forum names and carS LOL
Ridiculous isnt it haha. Everybody know everybody in the car scene.
Without tooting my own horn at car shoe i always get the ‘hey, i saw this on commodores plus forum’
So it is pretty cool Gary has made this forum very active unlike sc.
No such thing as 6 degrees of separation anymore hahaa

Posts: 206130lph is about a standard GM Ls1 pump in a vt-vz
Will be fine for like 228/232@112 vcm 7 cam with standard injectors. If you go 460lph, upgrade all your wiring. Its draws SOO much current.
It melted the sender and body harness loom in my vx.- This reply was modified 7 years, 6 months ago by Bdj_007.

Posts: 206Congrats on the time, must be happy with that. Doing the some combo so might have to drop in to Casey and get matt to look at mine. Couple of things for you. What size injectors, where did you get your trans crossmember from and what starter relocator did you install What’s the next plan for it?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks man,
Matt has gotten out of the trade working on cars and into industrial working on trucks and that.
Pop in and see Pete at Casey. Tell him I sent you. He is a gentleman.
Vcm 60 pound injectors
lowe fab (aka muscle garage) trans mount and crossmember
Castlemaine Rod Shop starter relocater kit.
We got some data from the Holden Nationals where I ran a 10.63 @ 132mph, 1.52 in the 60′ on that run.
Needs 4.11 diff gears instead of the 3.9’s i have now and more stall speed.
That will come over the winter break and come out to play at PCM (Performance Car Mania).

Posts: 206Finally got some time to turn a spanner today on the car. Got most of the shifter install nutted. This is what it will look like granted it will have a nicer leather boot. I’ve also picked up a t400 case as I’m no longer going with the glide. I’m waiting on an extension housing as the case didn’t come with one. My tuff mounts XMember is also on the way. Once it all here, I’ll mount the motor and box correctly and send it away to get the tubs, headers and a few other “mods” done.
killer its starting to take shape man. make sure you install the cable right. i found that out the hard way haha.
if yours is anything like mine you’ll need to space the trans crossmember down 10mm.
for fstgmh, vkefi8 and mine it stopped the pipes resting on the floor as they came out of the header. but then turbo is probably different so i’ll be quiet now haha.

Posts: 206Thanks mate. I’m doing a similar conversion, LS3 and TH400 into a VK, although with a stock motor, and seeing a similar combo helps sort out a few things.
Theres a few things you have to take into consideration, have to space the gearbox down 8mm so the pipes dont hit the floor. Wether you will run a cell and do all the plumbing to suit if you are going cammed and stuff later on, manual rack (v8 & 6cyl have the same rack and intermediate shaft in a vk), plus a few other odds and ends

Posts: 206Congrats on the 10 sec timeslip dude…very envious! Was thinking mph was high for the time, good to know there is more left in it OR could give it some giggle go greedy for a 9 lol
Should go 10.4 with that mph.
Just need the converter to flash to like 6000rpm and 60′ like a boss.
1.62 in the 60 isnt anything to rave about but its not bad for a first time out.

Posts: 206What’s it like to drive on the street with the converter? I’ve gotta order a converter and need to figure out what stall speed to get.
Its killer on the street man. Nice and loose. Easy to maintain speed etc
What made you go with the 5800 stall? Is it suited to your cam?
The motor went 10.6 @ 129 in fstgmh red vk. Converter was at 5400, little bit tight. Used to flash to 4800. So needed more. Plus 60′ was up the shit at something like 1.65
And yes does suit the cam 237/248 @110

Literally a dream come true man.
I’ve never steered anything quite like this before.
Can’t wait to get behind the wheel again which will be May 6th at Heathcote Raceway for the Holden Nationals
