IJ am I right all i am doing is removing the burr, not chamfering it or anything?  So just a touch on the Dremel?

Thanks for the tip re the dremel IJ.  So have spoken to Brenton, and decided I am going to assemble and fit the pistons to the rods and block myself (what can possibly go wrong!!)  So that’s Saturdays job, should be a bit of fun, like always I guess slow and steady wins the race.  He is moving along with the heads too, so its coming together.

No I haven’t yet IJ, but realize i need too, and also wash them down.  I just have to find that small stone I have skillfully hidden so well even I cant find it

Gotta say I am really enjoying this, very “Zen” process, just taking my time.  All rings gapped.  I actually did them separately for each cylinder, not sure I needed to, given the bores measure pretty much exact to each other but wont hurt I guess.  How does it go in that song…”step by step”

Yea crate engine is different, although it “should” be better.  Its supposedly hand built by one guy.  Cavs is like the LS3 I originally bought, they pull it of the line and sell it to you.

Def your car looks better with shots from lower, the one above on track is nice, the one immediately above makes it look a little portly!!

My advice to anyone now would be if you buy one, do a tear down and check everything before you fit it.  If its all good (as it should be) its a a pretty simple reassembly job, but if you find something you will be glad you did it…

See I think its looks tough in that shot, I mean its not pretty as such just looks like it means business.

Yes will if idiot me hadn’t thrown out all the old rings when I pulled the motor down I would have!!

Thanks very much for the tip, I did notice they felt very different when fitting them in the bores to the tops, as thought they were a different material or something.

Well that’s a wrap up for the week end, checked all the ring gaps, currently Top are at 18thou, second is at 0.020″.  Brenton wants them at 20 and 26 respectively, so a little gapping required.  Checked all the rings in one bore, then checked one ring in all 8 as a cross check and they are all exact, bores and gaps.  Had to improvise with my ri…[Read more]

Totally get how satisfying it would be to help someone else learn the skills. It’s actually a big reason i chose Brenton.  From the get go he wanted “me” to assemble it.
