For sure, and can vouch for the fact it gets very bloody hot down around the starter after a decent drive.

Yep, actually, have already picked up a carby kit. At some stage in between racing go-karts, rebuilding Senators, working on VL’s and getting rentals ready for new tenants I will have a go

Yes, I agree 100%. It will be good to put it in knowing its running perfectly and run in etc. We have done the wiring tidy up etc, so there may be a small issue or two. So at least knowing it runs etc if I have problems I know I don’t need to look at the engine itself. Starting to think of what it’s going to be like hitting the loud pedal for…[Read more]

The engine is now safely unloaded and tucked away in the shed. Might need to do a bit of a stocktake and make sure I have everything for the reinstall, it’s been so long since I pulled it out Super busy at the moment so not sure when I will get a clear go at it. First step I guess is to fit up the trans then drop it in the K frame.

Thanks very much all, fitted a relay today as described, problem solved!! Actually its hard to tell from the pic but the original solenoid wire was pretty light gauge from new. Prob OK when the car was brand new but 30 years on, with the heat etc, nope. Went quite a bit heavier gauge, went for a long drive and its 35 degrees here. Started aga…[Read more]

No problems. Will take one of the VL. NVL quite the same as the LS but have to say the sound of a Holden V8 at idle is hard to beat…

Did you mean of the VL or Senator mate, on the 454 thread are the dyno vids if you haven’t seen them

Awesome, you sir are a legend!! Funnily enough to I am actually a fully qualified Radio Tradesman, just pretty rusty on the wiring side!!

It’s not so cut and dried, a mate if mine recently did a 9.9 is a turbo statesman at AIR and wasn’t booted.

Thanks for the relay tip. Would anyone be able to show me a basic wiring layout of how to do it? I am guessing Supercheap would sell them?
Not going injected simply as I want to keep it original even though I know it would be better . Imo this car deserves to be left as it is. I think with a carby rebuild it should be sorted. The Quadrajet is a…[Read more]

Cheers, I might try cleaning up what’s there first, then if that doesn’t solve it give that a go.

Have driven the old girl to work for the last couple of days, I want to put some miles on it to flush out any problems. So far so good, once it has started it runs perfectly. But only little niggle is it loses cranking speed and so is hard to start once it’s hot, I am guessing the cable to the starter and/or earth lead are bit corroded, so m…[Read more]

Yep, agreed very understated, I like it a lot.
That would be fun, at some stage I want to put mine on the weighbridge and see what it comes out at, the cast iron block, 12 bolt etc will all add some weight. If you can trust those ET calculators supposedly if I hooked it up it would be nudging the high 9’s, but all I ever wanted from mine was…[Read more]

Sounds like a bloody awesome piece of kit mate!! It’s a bit hard to compare the sound at this stage, as the whole set up is different really, it’s making roughly 150HP more than before so it will always sound different. I was surprised on the dyno how nice it was at idle, given the large lift and cam specs etc I expected it to be rougher. Th…[Read more]

Forgot to update this, been a bit distracted with the Senator!! But I can confirm I love this car!! It’s such a cool cruiser. It makes you want to wind down the window, have the elbow out, one had on the wheel and cruise. We have a race meeting coming up in Whyalla, and lately, it’s been hotter than the surface of the sun here in S.A. So d…[Read more]
