I was trying to give it 9/10ths – no run off at Lakeside and plenty of ppl have died there, its famous for it… They were squeeling around every corner! thought they would work better and survive better but they didn’t…. only lost 0.5mm of tread though, but tons of chunks as you can see.

So I got my mechanic to replace ignition leads. He offered to relocate the ignition coil from the back of the motor to the firewall. I thought ‘why not’ as it’s in a sh*t of place.
Anyone else done this?

ok, I sort of lied – if you type ‘commodore’ it does come up with some stuff, but if I type anything from a thread I have created it doesn’t return anything. For example ‘track’ or ‘ignition’ – ‘track’ is in two thread titles and ‘ignition’ is in the body of a thread i created.

hey I want to get some semi slicks for next track day. Can anyone recommend any brands or tell of their experiences? Mate recommended Nitto NT-05, but not many ppl stock em.
Got spare set of rims, so will be for track only. Cheers

Update #4 – Can’t definitely close this thread now. Have not had any issues at all since the ignition module was swapped out, even did a track day!

Next track day is May 29th, so lining up some semi slicks. Hopefully won’t go home on flat bed for the third time!!!

Took my wheel off – the chunks taken out of the tyres are quite significant. Street tyres don’t like the track. Red circled the chunks missing.

My mechanic sorted it out – he’s a bit hush on details, prob worried i’ll find out how much he ripped me off, but I imagine them or sydney race brakes.
Other reason I went with this set up was I could tell insurance I upgraded the brake to VS Senator 215i front brakes and could get away without a mod plate (qld). If I went willwood’s (or bigger…[Read more]

ok, brakes have been upgraded! Yet to give them a test yet, but they seem good.
Ended up getting 330mm DBA 4000 T3 slotted rotors with PBR dual piston calipers (same model as BF XR8 i’m told), braided lines, new master cylinder and pads(?). ABS compatible.

Nice build!
Can I ask why you went the extreme clutch? Has the motor had work done?
I’ve got a stock 185i and just put in a heavy duty clutch (extra $100 odd over stock) as my previous stock 5+ year old clutch has lasted pretty well (only just started to slip)…
