I’ve been told that if you want hpc coated pipes to stay good. You need to get a few heat cycles into them prior to coating. So the colouring from the heat sets in. Then get them coated.

Not if that’s true or not.

Interesting, I didn’t do that, the people I use are literally across the street form Pacemakers, I think they may do some of theirs, not sure.

They’re polished in a Vibratory Bath so can’t see any reason why they couldn’t be repolished!

Joe’s a nice kid he’ll enjoy working on the VR!

Thanks, IJ, if I ever have them out again I might get them re polished then, but I never intended it to be a show car.  Yea he is a super nice kid, very sad what happened but he is taking it really well.  Should be a good proxy Uncle/Nephew day :)

they also say tune the engine prior to coating.

Interesting Cav, I mean its a high temp ceramic coating, not sure what that would effect.  And mine, tune wise has been a little (cough cough) variable and they still look pretty good :)

You can tarnish the coating during the tuning process. Happened to mine.

And the engine is in!!  In the bay at least still a lot of work to do.  Had the Street Machine photographer this morning, very nice guy.  Then after got stuck into it.  Tried the up from underneath way.  Gotta say, in my case not a fan.  No way that engine will go anywhere up and in with the exhaust on, and also had to take off the drivers side rocker cover, away bar, radiator fan, and a few other bits and pieces.  I think really in from above is the go for it into mine, but it is in.  Now I can start the exhaust on, wiring etc etc, happy days.

Yep it’s all about what works for your particular combination, the hard/stressful part is done the rest is gravy

Yep 100% IJ.  I can so see how it would be awesome if the headers hugged better and could be left on.  And yep getting it in is the big part. Now I can chip away at it .

Nice to see the old girl getting some love on the SM FB page.  Its a reprint of the original article, funny reading through it actually, quite a bit has changed since then.

Had the dreaded man flu all week, then been helping the in-laws move today.  But this afternoon got an hour or so.  Thought I would start to get it back on 4 wheels. Managed to locate everything (+1 for being OCD about storage/labeling) and got both hubs and front suspensions on and locked up.  She loos so purdy.  A bonus too as more and more bits go back on the car i can actually move around in the shed easier (yay)

Also been asked a couple of times how I ran my charcoal canister line.  This is it inside the drivers side front guard then tucked up under the side of the sill back to the tank.  You can also see how I ran the rear brake line so its not close to the headers on the inside of the chassis rail.

Good solid day, still struggling with the aftermath of the flu, so doing it in chunks then resting.  Tbh I had forgotten all the work and details I did when I built it, its only as I am reassembling it all it coming back to me.  I cant remember how many hours I put into the engine oil cooling system, the remote oil filter pickup and mount etc.  But its going back together really nicely.

So have got all the fuel system done, also oil cooler, shifter mechanism, its sender unit etc.  Turns out I need to swap over the crank angle sensor not I have swapped reluctors.  That’s no biggie though.  Coming back together nice.

Exhaust and tail shaft etc left pretty much, another solid day should get me close.

About to start day 3.  Yesterday got the headers in, I thinks its all about sequence and process.  Took most of the day though.  But that a combination of doing them on my own, no room, and paranoia about scratching anything.  So have made up a list of whats left, might go close today but will wait and see.  I have waited this long not rushing it now.  Hopefully soon will hit the starter and see what she has to say.

Looking good. I know your paint about those headers.

Just noticed you have you heater pump nipples blocked. You should run the loop. Blocking them creates unneeded pressure build up from what I’ve read.
