Great bearings with some interesting Tech to them, they’re not actually round, they’re oval to promote the Oil Wedge!

Posts: 5 777Might have to do some reading, I assume thats part of the reason the shells are handed as Upper and Lower?
March 26, 2018 at 12:29 pm #26199Yep it is, they wait for when the shell is unloaded and rotate in the oval section this allows a bigger Oil Wedge, not sure it does anything in practice but I think it’s cool tech so have used them whenever they’re available for an engine I’m building!

Posts: 5 777Just had a good read of this, never ceases to amaze me how much tech can be in something that on the face of it is so simple.

Posts: 5 777Got a day off today, thought I would continue operation clean bits, so in that spirit decided to take a break and give the old girl a sponge bath given she is laid up awaiting her heart transplant. That paint work still floats my boat

Posts: 5 777So spoke to Brenton during the week, he is aiming to get the heads sorted this week end (waiting to hear) and then come up Tuesday night to do some trial fitting and measurements etc. Hanging for that
So thought I would try and knock off “project clean”. Got everything pretty well cleaned and bagged. Spent a while on the grinder with the rotary brush wheel and cleaned all the threads, cleaning them, removing all the sealant etc.
I know its a little thing, but being able to run the bolts in properly, and everything being clean and spotless etc makes it all much easier imo (yes I am borderline OCD!!).
Also decided the valley cover looked a little “used” so sanded it all back and hit it with some primer. Need a new can of Hugger orange to finish it off.

April 16, 2018 at 5:05 pm #26281Not long now.
April 16, 2018 at 6:29 pm #26285If your a true OCD you would get some thread taps to clean all the threads in he block when it comes back. LOL
April 16, 2018 at 8:51 pm #26287No he would use proper thread chasers .
But what you said is better Cav

Posts: 5 777And for the record, VHT do a “Chevy Orange” (Hugger orange) hi temp spray can, tried it last night looks like an exact match for the block colour, so hopefully the valley cover comes up nice. (paining is not my strength I can assure you!)
April 18, 2018 at 12:26 pm #26301Suprised you didnt get a nice shiney billet one

Posts: 5 777Went through this discussion back in the SC days Not a huge fan of spending money on things that dont make any engineering or performance difference unless I have too. You really dont end up seeing any of it really with the ITB set up anyway, what you do see the orange offsets the look of the trumpets etc.

Posts: 5 777Well that was fun, Brenton came up and we dialed in the cam, he went through and explained all the steps, like anything there is a bit in it, easy I guess if you know what you are doing. And its spot on perfect. He also went over everything I had done and gave it the tick of approval. Also he dropped off the lifters which look beautiful. Heads are almost done, gaskets etc ordered, starting to get a wriggle on now

That’s come up mint. I suggest it spends a bit of time in the wifes oven to help seal/harden the paint
