Posts: 5 777Finally some progress to post about
Machining is all done, just picked it up. So bored, honed, line bored, decked, new can bearings. Crank ground, new reluctor wheel. Looking forward to getting it home and on the engine stand and giving it a good clean up.
The cam has arrived from Cam Motion, I think you could say its going to have a little lump at idle

Posts: 5 777Been away overseas (Thailand) over Christmas, but back now. Gotta say I am a little frustrated how long this is all taking but I think that has more to do with me being an impatient bastard than anything else!!
Got sent the 3D pdf file of my pistons, they should be here any tick of the clock. Need to catch up with Brenton over the week end and find out exactly where he is up to with the heads.

Posts: 5 777I would love to have something to update you on!! Pistons apparently left the US yesterday, supposed to be here in 5 days (man Aussie post sucks balls in comparison). Brenton has unfortunately had a pretty serious health issue over Christmas but luckily is over that (fingers crossed) and so is able to get back into it. Hoping to finish off the wiring loom tidy up in the next week or so. Once the pistons arrive I think we are set to get stuck into the short block assembly. Btw did I mention I am an impatient bastard and this is killing me?

Posts: 5 777Nice bit of shed therapy today. Not the most glamorous of jobs but I have never been happy with the way the loom was originally done. So a good mate of mine Mike has come around and we have spent some time tidying up the main loom where it goes across on the firewall, and there will now be two looms forward, one under the ITB’s will go to the sensors etc, and the top loom will go to the injectors, now they have the correct plugs on the loom so I don’t have to run the bulky adapters. Once the engine in we will make the sensor leads the correct length which they aren’t now.
He also wasn’t happy with the relay set up for the brake vacuum set up, I did it a bit rushed as I was trying to sort it for engineering. So he is redoing it quite neatly using a spare spot in the factory relay spot, I am also going to run a manual override for the engine fan which will make me much happier.
He is an electrical engineer and is going to design up for a little gizmo that will show when the electric water pump is actually working properly, so not just it has power. That way if it ever fails for any reason i will know immediately.
So happy to be ticking off some jobs, the pistons should arrive this week, then I can start planning engine assembly time.
Few pics for posterity

February 12, 2018 at 5:00 pm #25916Wouldn’t say I enjoy wiring although do like end result mind hiding all wiring etc in engine bays & getting it all to work nicely.

Posts: 5 777I haven’t actually had a chance to sit down with Brenton and discuss what he settled on for compression etc. We have a goal in mind for hp on 98, and we have set the target rpm at 7k.

Posts: 5 777Spent most of Saturday cleaning the block. Must have washed, cleaned, rinsed and dried it a dozen times. Its bloody clean but still not totally happy as when wiping it with a cloth there is the slightest discoloration. So had had enough, sprayed it down with WD40, and bagged it up, and will go again this week end. I want it absolutely spotless, I think its the lube from the hone.
