Posts: 39Not sure, wouldn’t the extra traction be more use? I have no idea what sort of mph it may run. I would be happier with it not quite pulling 7k at the line than hitting the limiter just before?
How much hp are you hoping to make and what does the car weigh (in pounds). Should be able to roughly calculate mph and from that can work out the best tyre diameter/rear gear combo.

Posts: 5 777Never had it a weigh bridge, I am going to take a guess at say 1550kg, so I think that’s around 3400lb. Power aiming at 700ish hp fly. Diff is 3.55:1, glide so no overdrive. I have played around and different calculators seem to give different results, not sure what the best calculator is?

Posts: 39Yeah they’re not a 100%, but they give you a pretty fair idea. I use the calculators on wallaceracing.com, very helpful.
With the 3.55 gears and a 275/50 15 (26.4in) it’ll cross the line somewhere around 6100rpm and for very inch in diameter more it’ll drop 200rpm.
September 23, 2017 at 5:40 pm #24576Smaller tire will be better off the line also.
I rkeon you will be around 1600-1650kg

Posts: 5 777Wow, that heavy? I seem to remember IJ saying his was just over 1500 and its AWD? Appreciate I have a cast iron block, and heavier diff, but that a lot isn’t it? I guess I will need to weigh it at some stage. According to the web a VR V8 came in at 1477kg?
September 23, 2017 at 8:43 pm #24578Mine was 1600 with me in it. Ian’s is stripped out don’t forget, while the does have extra in the driveline.
September 24, 2017 at 1:22 am #24579Wallace Racing Calc FTW!
1630kgs ish with you in it.7000rpm, 126mph, 27″ tire = 3.55:1
http://www.wallaceracing.com/calc-gear-tire-rpm-mph.php
Lots of other ways to work it out too on their site.
Have fun!

Posts: 5 777Good stuff, so looks like the 275/50/15 at 26.4″ is a pretty good bet. And will theoretically have me crossing the line at around 6200rpm. I am not trying to break a record, I reckon that works. I am guessing it all depends on traction/set up anyway. Last time I went down a drag strip was 30 years ago in my little LC GTR and ran 15.2

Posts: 39Have you thought about bolting a Gear Vendors unit behind the glide at any stage?

Posts: 5 777Yea for sure it might happen one day. But really it’s not about cruising at 110.
September 24, 2017 at 7:42 pm #24594<p style=”text-align: left;”>With 3.55 a rear, a gear vendors probable isn’t really needed. Not like it’s 4.11 and cruising @100 on 3700</p>

Posts: 5 777Yea your right Cav, it’s actually not bad at 100.
September 25, 2017 at 12:44 pm #24602Mine was 1553 wet when I first built it but things have changed a bit so I need to reweigh it.

Posts: 5 777Sounds like Cav’s guess may be pretty close to the mark then with my lard ass in it!! Once its all up and running might swing past the local weighbridge so I know once and for all. Thanks all.
September 25, 2017 at 3:56 pm #24612Yeah I’d say he’ll be close for sure… keep in mind mine had no interior heater or AC, 0 deadener or creature comforts..

Posts: 5 777Yea but them sure I have cast iron block, and bigger diff, but to transfer case, front diff, or cage, be similar I am guessing.
September 25, 2017 at 7:13 pm #24621I was 1600 on the dot.
304, light weight trimatic, no AC or heater etc. and I’m 80kg. Sorry. I was lol.

Posts: 535A Senator starts out heavier than an SS.
I would suggest the Senator was a chubby 1600kg+ before any mods were undertaken.
