Heard build quality of crate engines not exactly the best but that is shithouse for coin they cost.

Yea I actually think $11.5k for a motor that produces 600 supposedly reliable hp with buckets of torque isn’t that bad at all.  But the build quality on this is poor no matter what it cost.  Again though just so glad I pulled it when I did.  If it had let go i would probably never been able to tell why it did.  This way its a relativley inexpensive exercise.

I bought the engine from Chris Milton here in SA and they have a great reputation.  I might ring them Monday and just chat to them about whats happened and see if they think there is any point in going to Chevrolet Performance about it.

Yip you can only try not sure on warranty but it’s  either km’s once started or time from delivery but it’s proving it as well be hard I think

11.5 that’s not bad so 12.5 for the lsa is good then

Just cut the oil filter open, cant find anything untoward in it.  So have decided though to pull out the oil cooling system, and filter and lines and flush them all out and clean them thoroughly.  Have also decided to strip down the K frame and get it powder coated as when I got everything done, I then had to modify it for sump clearance.  Thought I might as well take the opportunity since its out.  The other powder coating still looks mint, and the SuperPro bushes also are perfect. :good:

The lsx is a crate engine where as the LSA is a factory engine. So the build quality should be very different. I hope.

Id also totally flush all the oil system, good call on that. I’d call up the supplier, you might of owned it 3 years but I’m sure you would be able to prove how long it’s actaully been running and how many km’s it’s done. Fair to say under 5000km?

Wouldn’t hold much hope of any sort of warranty due to the type of engine and how many Tuners have had a crack at it…

Yea I don’t hold out much hope either but worth the question. My guess is 3000km max, prob closer to 2000.

Factory engine will be Mexico somewhere. LSX is aftermarket so who knows.

Shit to see that after all the time and effort you put into getting this car right that the engine is out and in bits already. BUT, it could have been much worse and it’s given you a good excuse to put it back together bigger and better than ever. Gotta look on the bright side of these little challenges. Seems like everything else you control yourself works out well so I don’t see why this will be any different!

I was just planning to go back to the people I used before who did a great job, Wickes Steve & Sons Pty Ltd, 555 Main North Rd, Gepps Cross  8262 4673.  Plan on dropping it to them today at lunchtime.

I slightly marked the paint on the bonnet cutting the vents (not sure how), and I had actually picked up a couple of stone chips since it was painted, so given the engines out I decided to get Frank to repaint the bonnet.  Looks like he has still got his sense of humour ;-)
