Posts: 5 777Filters going into the front grill, yep there is going to be a space and rubber section between the bonnet section and the plenums. Thats part of the reason for the slope of the front of them where they meet, allows the engine to move twist etc and it will be OK. The engine actually hardly moves at all with the tuff mounts anyhow.
March 25, 2017 at 4:07 pm #22159Sweet can’t wait to see it done it’s going to blow minds.

March 28, 2017 at 11:24 am #22176Be cool if you did an intake for ls series engines into vn-vs as well. That pics of air from the front like an OTR.

Posts: 5 777Got a fair bit on this week end, not sure I will get much more shed time. Had a good crack all morning though, gotta say bloody happy with it, I have now done enough to prove to myself it will will work. Actually I think it will work really well. Don’t really want/need to do much more on the dummy bonnet, its really time to start doing it for real now I reckon.
Need to now spend some solid hours on the CAD and tidy up some things, then print off the real sets. Thinking I might design up the panels and get them laser cut in stainless steel, should look nice all polished up. Then on the real bonnet make it look a bit nicer and probably box it in a little to the underside of the bonnet. I will use rivnuts so its all removable as well.
If I get some time whilst everything is printing etc, will start to look at the grill scoop and filter panel I have in mind. Few pics, bear in mind its only a prototype and mocked up at that!!
April 1, 2017 at 6:14 pm #22207That looks awesome mate can’t wait to see it in it’s final form

Posts: 5 777The engine hardly moves at all with the tuff mounts. It cant otherwise it would hit like crazy on the pipes around the steering rack.
April 4, 2017 at 9:35 am #22223Can the top of the trumpet cover be left on top rather than attached to the bonnet or wont that work design wise?

Posts: 5 777Yea did consider that, but then it sort of misses the point of having the exposed trumpets when the bonnets up, so think i will go with it like this. I have come up with I think a nice way to make and mount the covers, but worse case if that all turns to poop, I have made it in such a way I could cover the plenums as you say, and still have the feeds mounted up into the bonnet. If I get a chance to model up the plenum covers I will throw up a pic off the CAD.

Posts: 5 777Well sometimes you get to do something that is good for the soul. Today my little mate Joe came and picked up the 5L. He is seriously so excited, have lent him my engine stand, his planning it being a pretty long term project. I think at first he is just going to strip it all, clean everything up and see how everything works, then reassemble it. Couple of pics

More I think about it the more I like this idea. I know it doesn’t keep the trumpets fully visible (which i dont like) but it is more functional (which i like), takes un-neccessary complication away from the underside of the bonnet too (which i also like). Might have a play tonight as a mock up and see how it would look. Thanks for the suggestion. I think its at least worth exploring.
April 11, 2017 at 5:00 pm #22404Just make it so the top is removable. So when you at a display u just pop the lid.

Posts: 5 777^not a bad idea Cav, I think I might make it screw on as a start, but I think I have mentioned before I know a guy who is an ex Ferrari F1 carbon fibre guy who now lives in Adelaide. Might once its done go see him and see if it would be possible to use my 3D printed parts as a mould to get it done in carbon. Then I could go for some nice cool clips to remove them and it would look pretty cool.
April 12, 2017 at 6:57 pm #22418Jut carbon wrap it lol.
