Posts: 5 777All my gear is Makita, always has been, the good stuff though, not the average range. Never had an issue with any of it. Bought a set the other day after my break in, got a deal on the cordless grinder/circular saw/drill/impact driver for a similar price to replacing the impact driver and drill they stole separately. Have to say pretty impressed with the angle grinder and circular saw, very grunty.

Posts: 5 777Cant beat the feel of an old school screw driver. I still use hand tools whenever I am playing around with anything that matters. Too easy to overpower stuff with a cordless. I made up a tool for removing the screw for the air horns, but still crack them or start them by hand first.

Posts: 82If I run HSV I would have done lots of things different Should have taking the model then made little changes such as widened the rear tubs slightly and make a decent sub frame and thrown them stupid swing arms so far they forgot how they where made and come up with double wish bone set up and be able to fit some decent tyres under it Should have thrown the front K frame in the bin and designed double wish bone for that as well Should of made different gaurds that warped over the wheels a tad more to get a lower sleaker looks Back in the GTO days they should have designed a wide body version with pumped front and rear guards with a wide track and maybe lowered the roof 1-2 inches for that sleek look Doesn’t matter if it was $100-150k or even more I bet they would have sold like hot cakes, look at the w427 all that really was is a 7L in a GTS with w427 printed on the seats and a piece of carbon fibre on the boot with the biggest brake and people couldn’t grab there cheque books quick enough But that’s just me I’m sure not all will agree with me
Remember the HRT 427 that was a commercial failure, though sold out deposit wise.
Dropping the roofline would be so far outside HSV’s budget it would be ridiculous. It would mean a complete redo of all ADR testing.I agree that the rear suspension needed a complete redesign. I’m sure there’s enough technical knowledge here to do it.

I’m sure there’s enough technical knowledge here to do it.I agree re the roof, huge cost, but re the suspension, check out IJ’s thread on here about his Lexcen race car build if you haven’t already, he has made his own rear (and front) suspension from scratch. That’s probably the extreme (but very cool) another alternative would be to maybe find a good IRS off another car, especially if it was in its own sub frame and graft that sub frame into the VR/S. I guess at the end of the day its what you want out of the car. People are running 9’s in IRS VR/S, not so sure about how good they are on a track/hill climb though.
April 16, 2015 at 9:21 am #4868A double a arm coilover setup from a Mk3 Supra would be a viable option but then you’d need to do something with the Front end, where does it stop being a Commodore and become something else?
